How do I disable deleting search suggestions?

I just upgraded to Firefox 34.0 (on Windows 7) so I got the new search box UI with the one-click buttons. When I start typing a search and then hit the Down key or mouse over the suggestions, it highlights the relevant suggestion. So far so good. If I then hit the Delete key, what I want to happen is that a letter is deleted in the search box (where my cursor is still active; if I hit any other keys it types there). What actually happens is that the highlighted search suggestion gets deleted.
I couldn't care less about removing search suggestions. All I want is for my delete key to work on the active field. How can I revert this?

That is how deleting items from a drop-down list works.
If an entry is highlighted and you press the Delete key then the highlighted item is removed.
To avoid that you can use the backspace key instead or press ESC to close the drop down.

How do I DISABLE Safari search history function in iPhone4?

Thank you for the swift answer. I find it amazing that Safari/iPhone developers haven't considered such basic privacy/security issues. Can't help but wonder if it's a cultural thing (Americans and their curious views on the concept of privacy).

  • How can I disable awesomebar search/keyword suggestions on FF 3.6?

I am on FF 3.6. I'm trying to find a way to disable the AwesomeBar search/keyword suggestions. I have gone through tools -> options -> privacy -> location bar. I have tried setting the location bar set to show only history, bookmarks, or even none, but it still shows keyword search suggestions. How can I disable this?
I have also tried from about:config, setting maxrichresults to 0. Again, that is not what I'm looking for. I want it to show history and bookmarks, but I do not want keyword search suggestions.

I'm pretty sure the poster doesn't want to disable the keyword search functionality. What they want is for keyword searches to work, but just not be displayed (or at least not displayed as the automatic first option) on the list of location bar suggestions when typing a new URL.
In their words, "I want it to show history and bookmarks, but I do not want keyword search suggestions."
That was how keyword search bookmarks worked in FF3.5, if I recall, and I too would like that behavior back. I haven't found any way to train the awesomebar to not show me keyword search bookmarks.

  • Xfinity keeps defaulting to their search engine rather than google via Safari.  How do I disable xfinity search?  I am going crazy!

It has always been a problem with xfinity defaulting to their own crappy search engine when I type into the Safari url line.  It is even worse now with Yosemite.  My default on Safari is set to google, but xfinity hijacks it.  I have been searching everywhere to find a solution.  I simply want to disable the xfinity search engine, but it is not simple!  Hoping someone here has had the same problem and was able to fix it.  Thanks!

    Back up all data.
Unlock the Network preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Cllck Advanced, open the DNS tab, and change the server addresses to the following:
              8.8.8.8
              8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
    In Safari, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. Any difference?
    Notes:
    1. If you lose Internet access after making the above change to your network settings, delete the Google servers in the  Network preference pane, then select the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP Lease. That should restore the original DNS settings; otherwise restore them yourself. Remember that you must click Apply in order for any changes to take effect.
    2. I don't use Google DNS myself, though I have tested it, and I'm not recommending it or any other DNS provider; the server addresses are offered merely for testing purposes. There may be privacy and technical issues involved in using that service, which you should investigate personally before you decide whether to keep the settings. Other public DNS services exist.

  • How do I disable/delete Yahoo from FireFox 3.6.10?

Yahoo search toolbar is present. How do I delete/remove.
Also "new tab" brings up a Yahoo Search window.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
You can also try "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the [[Safe mode]] start window.
There is also (security) software like AVG that can add toolbars to Firefox.

  • How do I disable trending searches from itunes?

Whenever I open itunes store a "trending searches" box appears. I have no interest in trending searches and the box is annoying. How do I get rid of it?

    Dear Apple,
It is helpful to see that I have already purchased a song with the "buy" button no longer being available; however, I do not need to see the songs in my library from the artist that I'm searching for...please get rid of this feature. I am fully capable of searching for that stuff on my own...just like I'm trying to search for things in the store...I've got that skill down. Also, get rid of the trending suggestions information that comes up when I perform a search. I buy music because I like it not because it's "trendy"...I'm trying to look for something and not show off my keen taste to other people that you imagine are sitting around my computer judging me and my hipness. Please stop trying to be helpful...you're just getting in the way of what I want to do.
    Sincerely annoyed,
    K. Kerr
P.S. - Did anybody ask for these features or did you just assume that we would like them?

  • I'm unable to turn off Search Suggestions in Firefox 10.0.2.

I unchecked the "Show Search Suggestions" box in the "Manage Search Engines" pane. No change. Restarted Windows and the box was still unchecked, but the Google search suggestions still appear as I'm typing my search phrase. They also appear on sites like IMDB.
How can I turn the suggestions off?

Firefox has control over the (Google) search bar on the Navigation Toolbar.<br />
So it is possible to disable the search suggestions when you do a search via the search bar.<br />
On web pages there runs a script that monitors key presses and sends data to the server which responses by sending a (JSON) file that the script that has send the request interprets and shows as suggestions in a drop down list.<br />
In such a case only blocking that request or the involved script(s) can prevent that.
Maybe someone ar the NoScript forum has a suggestion how to deal with this.

  • Has PSE7 got control of my scanner & if so how do I disable it?

How do I determine if PSE 7 has CONTROL of my scanner software & if so disable it?
I have an old Epson Photo Perfection 1660 scanner which according to some accounts won't work with Windows 7 64 bit.  I have a driver installed & am able to scan pictures OK provided all that I'm doing is a simple scan.
The scanner came with very good but very old software called Smart Suite which could not only determine what sort of document was in the machine, automatically divide multiple pictures scanned at once, apply OCR & also scan both negatives & slides.  None of these extra options are working because when I click scan to ocr for instance it tells me that the machine is being used by another application.
How di I determine if PSE 7 has control od my scanner & if so how do I disable it?

Suggest that you check on the web site of the scanner's manufacturer to ascertain if there are updated drivers for WIN 7. A lot of the old stuff is not supported on WIN 7.

  • How do I disable the "Quick Search" feature?

I don't need or want the Quick Search function on Firefox. Simply deleting the Quick Search bookmarks folder doesn't get rid of it because it automatically reappears as soon as I restart Firefox. How do I disable this feature altogether?

    Here's what worked for me.
Right click in the toolbar area to get the toolbar customization menu. That is, right click just to the right of the "Help" button on the Menu Bar.
    You'll see:
    Menu Bar,
    Navigation Toolbar,
    Bookmarks Toolbar
These three may or may not have check marks, but you want to click on the fourth item, below the line, "customize".
Left click the customize button and the "customize toolbar" window appears. Click and hold the "quick search" and drag it into the customize window and release. Quick search should settle itself into the customize toolbar window, patiently waiting if you ever decide you might want it again. : )

  • Unable to completely disable auto-fill suggestions in search bar.

Entering a simple "e" in the search/adress bar still suggests ebay.com, "r" suggests rambler.ru and so on, this is highly annoying seeing as I only want it to suggest things out of my history, not suggest new items.
    Tried;
    Clearing all data
    browser.urlbar.autoFill false
    browser.formfill.enable false
    signon.autofillForms false
Firefox latest (non beta), Android 4.2.2, HTC One X.
At loss what to do at this point, if I can't get it fixed I'm switching firefox for chrome in a heartbeat because I keep losing so much time typing in extra information or deleting auto-fills information.

To clarify: I've never visited or searched for either ebay or rambler.ru (Don't even speak Russian for that matter), while I suspect I've overlooked something obvious (Maybe it's google search? But surely I would be able to disable that auto-suggestion/filling somewhere?)

we have a long list of disabled/deleted users in AD
Somehow, they are still appeared as active user in Sharepoint Online.
How do we get rid of those list?
    Hope you can advice. Thanks.

SharePoint does not remove users from SharePoint permissions just because they were deleted/disabled in AD. This is to maintain referential integrity. In fact, when you delete a user from SharePoint, that user remains in the SharePoint content database,
    just marked as deleted.
They do not have access to SharePoint given their account is deleted/disabled. But as far as automatically managing this, I'm not aware of a tool. On-prem there is Metalogix ControlPoint which does a great job of this, I haven't explored the O365 options.

It does seem rather odd that an app that was acquired thru itunes would quit working once it was incorporated into the device for all users. oh well it was probably free or $.99 when I downloaded it.
I would think that they were just testing it to see how many people would use it.  But you might want to write a polite letter to Apple requesting a credit for the purchase price of the no longer supported app.  That seems to be the least they could for one of their 'alpha testers'.

  • How do I disable the automatic google search in Safari

How do I disable the automatic google search mechanism in Safari 6.0.
When I type a url (or modify an existing one) if Safari doesn't understand/like what I type it does a Google (or whatever) search automatically.
If I have misspelled something, or made a typo, I want to know about it -- not have some twit program tell me what it thinks I wanted to know.
This is the same problem which exists for ISPs (and I realize that Apple is trying to grab the advertising dollars THEY get when you type in a bad URL).
I simply want to be able to turn OFF this "feature."
I also note that with this change it is no longer possible to select any search engine BUT Google. Annothe "feature" which I find utterly descriminating. There are many times when I want to see the results from different search engines -- as they all return different results, probably 90+% of the time.

There's not really a way to disable that feature, apple decided it would be easier for customers to have the address bar and google search bar all in one.

  • How do I disable/uninstall "Quick Search" in Status Bar?

I want to disable/uninstall the "Quick Search" box that pops up in my Status Bar in Firefox 23.0.1 Right now I'm having an issue with an "erratic cursor" (Windows 8...YUCK!!!!). I start typing in the address bar in a new tab, or in Google search bar, and my cursor floats all over the screen without my knowledge. In the middle of typing my search, the cursor will somehow "trigger" the "Quick Search" box, and suddenly, my words end up being typed there. I found out that this "erratic cursor" is a documented issue with the Lenovo G585 laptop, and until I find out how to fix it, I REALLY want to stop "Quick Search" from opening unless I ask it to open.
How do I stop "Quick Search" from opening?
Thanks in advance for your help!
