How do I disable iPhone keeping track of everywhere I go?

I saw online that the iPhone keeps track of everywhere we have **ever** been and saves this information in a file on the local computer for easy retrieval.
You can see the news article on the guardian's website here
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/apr/20/iphone-tracking-prompts-privacy -fears
And you can download the app to look at what the iPhone has mapped about you here
http://petewarden.github.com/iPhoneTracker/
"The file contains the latitude and longitude of the phone's recorded coordinates along with a timestamp, meaning that anyone who stole the phone or the computer could discover details about the owner's movements using a simple program."
My question is how do I turn this map archiving OFF? I do not want my iPhone to keep a map of everywhere I've ever been, and I definitely don't want someone breaking into my computer and getting a copy of where I go either.
And was this tracking mentioned in the EULA?

Yes I saw this and it should be of concern to anyone who has a cell carrier enabled iOS device.
The program on that page doesn't give the exact, second by second, level of detail required for tracking purposes so someone can't use it to snoop. Rather it's a demonstration of what is capable IF the program is modified to show those results as the data is certainly there.
So someone would have to modify the open source code to show more detail, which I'm sure won't be very long at all and we will see the better version hosted somewhere in short order.
The way to defeat this, your phone being remotely tuned on and used as a listening device, and tracking by cell carrier companies who (so far as we now know) keep 6 months of cell tower triangulation records recorded 8 times a hour, is to use what's called a "faraday bag"
A "faraday cage or bag" is a item that can block electronic transmissions. A unplugged, used microwave oven can double as such a device for the home, provided the door is closed.
Also many phones that are off are not really off, passwords have no effect neither.
RDIF bags with stainless steel threads used to block drive by recordings of passports are available (and sold out currently) on sites like ThinkGeek.
Naturally any device in a faraday bag or cage is unable to recieve incoming calls.
And currently in the State of Michigan, police are stopping motorists and using a handheld device to download everything on their phone, over 3,000 models are supported. Encryption, passwords, location data, pictures, chat logs, everything ever done with the device, even stuff that's been erased.
http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/34/3458.asp
Also the SSD/Flash drives used in devices like computers, iPads, iPhones, tablets etc are NOT being erased.
http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/11/02/17/1911217/Confidential-Data-Not-Safe-O n-Solid-State-Disks
So it appears the government, in cooperation with numerous companies and industries, has sold out any right of privacy we have.
The only option is to not use the devices.

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

  • How do 3rd party companies keep track of who to bill?

I went to go buy a ringtone from a website and the website told me my account activity had maxed out.  I changed my phone number and the website still said that.  How do those websites keep track of who to bill when you can change your phone number?

When you make a purchase from a third party think of your cell phone number as the credit card and your device as your home address. They have to know how you are paying and where it is going. Just because you change how you pay ( your phone number) you are still having it sent to the same place. When you register for a 3rd party service it links to the ESN number for your device. Hope that helps a little

how do you unlock a disabled iphone 4

Restore the iPhone from the computer to which the iPhone is synced. For information and instructions, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If that will not work, you'll need to put the iPhone into Recovery Mode and then try the Restore again:

If you mean that you entered an incorrect passcode too many times just restore the phone on the last computer it was backed up to. This will remove the passcode and restore that backup. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 for more information

  • How do i make iphone keep alerting me when view in lock screen is de-activated?

Hi, so i set all alerts to not show on the lock screen- (this way when a text comes in people around me cant see who its from).........but the issue with that method is that it only reminds you once so if you miss the notification and you have to keep checking the phone for messages/emails if you happen to miss the initial notification.....i cant seem to figure out how to change it so it keeps alerting me that i have messages while the view in lock screen is DE-activated

Do you have Alert Style set to Alerts rather than Banners?  (Only Alerts stay on screen until you take action.)

  • How can i disable iphone 4s apple email, and substitute gmail app, which allows for replies, compose, send

iphone4s built-in email is frustrating because it does not allow for replies to incoming mail; deletions and archiving, composing new mail, et al., as gmail does.. is it possible to disable or eliminate iphone email app and sub for gmail app, which i use regulary, just as i do on my laptop?
if not, what alternative solutions exist?
    thanks very much.,

In the native iOS app, if you set the default behavior to send a deleted message to Trash, you can still Archive it by moving it to "All Mail" in the same way you can move a message to any other folder.
As for the GMail app, I don't see a need for it but I suppose it depends on what you want.  You can have multiple GMail accounts set up on your device with the iOS Mail app, but if you want a quick way to switch between accounts you can use the GMail app for a particular account and iOS Mail for another.  Beyond that I don't see any advantage to the GMail app, other than maybe a priority Inbox.  The iOS Mail app can do push notifications for GMail if you set it up as an Exchange account (see below), so they're equivalent in that regard.
Since you're a GMail user, you might want to delete your GMail account in iOS settings and re-create it as an Exchange account.  That way you get push notifications, and your GMail contacts automatically remain synced between GMail and your device (over the air, no need to re-sync to iTunes).  To do this, read the article below:
    http://support.google.com/mobile/bin/answer.py?l=en&topic=14252&answer=138740
One caveat though:  When you set GMail up as an Exchange account, the default behavior of deleting a message is Archive (even though the button will say Delete).  To change this default, the only way is to use your iPhone's Safari to navigate to m.google.com/sync after you set up your Exchange account on your iPhone.  There you can change the behavior to actually delete a message when you tap Delete. Other than that little task (a one-time thing) you'll be set.

  • How to restore disabled iPhone to computer that i have never synced with

My iPhone 4s is disabled i have a new laptop that i have never synced with what can i do to get my iPhone restored to the original settings ?

You have to restore your phone as new to use it again.
That is the only option you'll have since you don't have a backup in iTunes, if you have a icloud backup you can restore from that and get your data back.
Otherwise you can only sync back your purchased items in iTunes.

  • How to fix disabled iphone

my iphone is disabled because my brother entered a wrong passcode and i want to restore it using itunes but unfurtunetly my system crashes so the backup file is lost
please tell me what to do...tnx

Unless he changed the passcode, you should still be able to access your phone with your passcode. If not, you can still restore it but you'll have to restore it without your backup. It will then be like a new phone.

  • How to unlock disabled iphone

Looking to see if someone can help me unlock  an iphone 4.  We gave our old ipone 4 to son to use as an ipod and one of his friends tried too many times to log onto it and now it says iphone is disabled.  Connect to itunes.  We tried connecting but itunes says to enter password.  There is not a place on phone to type in the password.  Anyone know what to do?

You will need to restore the phone:
    1. Make sure iTunes is version 10.7 or later
    2. Power phone OFF and disconnect it from the USB cord connected to the computer
    3. Press down the home button (circle button on bottome of phone) and then connect it to USB cord.... (do not release the home button until you see the connect to iTunes logo appear on phone...the Apple logo may come up, also, still do not release until the iTunes logo)
    4. Release home button when you see the iTunes logo and in iTunes on your computer it will alert you "iTunes has detected iPhone in recovery mode you must restore, etc"
    5. Say okay and select the restore button
