How do I disable Java on Mac OS X 10.5.8

Do I need to and how do I disable Java??

If you do not require Java it is best to leave it disabled in Safari and any other browser you may use.
In Safari, make Safari Preferences look like this:
Your version of Safari for Leopard may look a little different, but find the checkbox for "Enable Java" and un-check it.
JavaScript is unrelated to Java and you may leave it enabled.
Also, if you have a Java Runtime installed, disable it. To do that go to your Utilities folder and open Java Preferences.
If you see the following dialog box
... then click Not Now and you're finished.
If you see the following instead
... then un-check that box.

I'm told that both disabled Java by default in the latest versions. You are notified when Java is needed with a warning and given a chance to override it. Firefox looks like this

  • How to automatically disable Java Plug-in in Internet Explorer

I was wondering if it was possible to automatically disable/enable the Java Plug-in in Internet Explorer 6 Advanced Options (using JavaScript or script code in the html page for instance)...
    Any clues????

You can use a command line parameter when intalling the SUN plugin to automatically enable it for IE: IEXPLORER=1.
I'm not sure how to supply command line parameters if you aren't running the instal from the command line though....

  • How do you disable Java updates?

I am using a testbed system that I need to have strict control over the software that is installed. That means I can't install software updates unless needed for the tests being conducted on the system.
I simply ignore the Java update reminder at the bottom of the screen, but I'd like to remove that annoying update reminder completely. How do I do that?
I normally appreciate that Sun is helpful with updates and lets me know when there's a Java update, but in this case it's getting to be annoying and I want to prevent the update reminder from showing up on the testbed system.

Turn the feature off using the Java Control Panel.

  • HT4883 how do I download java for MAC OS 10.7

I need help finding what version of Java I am running and getting the latest version

Download and install Apple Java 2013-004. Do you need to have Java running? If not, then don't install it.
To find the version of Java you now have open Terminal in the Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
    java -version
    Press RETURN.
If Java is installed you will get some lines a bit like these:
    java version "1.6.0_51"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_51-b11-457-11M4509)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.51-b01-457, mixed mode)

  • What is going on with Java? How do I disable if needed?

What is going on with Java. Should I be concerned? How do I disable Java on my Mac if needed?

Don't believe anyone who says that Macs are 100% secure and malware free. There have been several notable instances where after hearing this many people have found themselves in the midst of a Mac malware outbreak (MacDefender, DNSChanger, and Flashback, just to name a few).
These attacks have been rare, and with "many people" being around 1 percent of all Mac users, for now this has been far of an issue than on other platforms, but security issues do exist for Macs.
Whether or not this warrants the use of special security software is up to you.
My recommendation is to keep a low-key and free malware scanner on your system, such as iAntivirus, ClamXav, or Sophos Home edition that can be configured to only run on-demand, and then should you feel the need use it to run a scan of your system every now and then. You can also use a reverse firewall like Little Snitch to monitor all outbound connections, which was key for many Mac users who found evidence of the Flashback malware on their systems when that outbreak occurred (just see here for the thread where many detected the suspect behavior: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3844172).
Since malware is still quite rare on Mac systems, it is debatable as to whether or not security software is necessary, but my stance is if configured as I described then there is very minimal chance it will adversely affect the system. I've configured numerous Macs with anti-malware utilities and have not seen any problems with them, so for the most part there should be neglegable impact (if any). Keep in mind some security tools are more intrusive than others, and include a number of scanning routines that are enabled by default, so each one has its own approaches that will need to be considered. The ones I mentioned here are very light-weight.
The thing that will keep your system safest is (besides "common sense" safe computing practices) to use plugin managers and ad-blockers to prevent Java, Flash, and other plug-ins and scripts from launching automatically.

Take a look at the last comment on this page: http://community.spiceworks.com/how_...va-autoupdater
To run the script as admin you simple set it to run as dynamic administrator or secure system user under the advanced tab of your run script action.

  • Why can't I print pdfs since installing Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 12?

Two days ago I installed the software update 12 for Java for Mac OS X 10.6 now pdfs I try to print come out blank or with data, only the company's logo

I read the article.  This problem of mine occurs when I try to print from an email attachment not from a website.
I am in Mail not Safari.  I click the little triangle to show the attachment then double click the icon of the attachment, the pdf opens in adobe reader but when I try to print it the page that comes out of my printer is blank or shows only the masthead of the company but no content.
I tried a two month old email attachment and got the same results.
I looked for the plug-ins mentioned in the article but coul not find them on my Mac in the applications file.
Does anyone know how to uninstall the "Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 12" ??
