How do I disable Keychain on my mac?

How do I disable Keychain on my iMac? It's become a burden.

Open system prefs and select iCloud.
Untick Keychain, it will ask for your Apple ID. Input that.
This should switch it off. If you want to reset it and then not enable it. Retick Keychain, it will ask for your Apple ID. Input it. It will then ask for your Security code. At this point, click reset Keychain, follow the prompts through, deleting from Mac or not as per your preference. Once you reach the point where it asks you to set up a new code, cancel out of this. Job done.
Keychain will remain off until you want to start it up again. Any details other than Credit Card or web passwords will remain in your Utilities Keychain, depending on whether your deleted them from your Mac or not. They will be listed under the header Local and not iCloud within the Keychain app in your Utilities folder.

  • Can anyone advise me how I can disable Connection Logging in Mac mail please it seems to have been added when I changed my internet settings thanks very much

Can anybody advise me how I can disable "Connection Logging which has set itself up in Mail, when the settings were changed for internet connection I am running OSX mavericks  10.9.3 thanks very much

I certainaly did not turn connection logging on but the effect was disastrous.  Mail would not respond as long as there was a slow connection. I figured this out through turning off all network connections and watching Mail spring back to life and let me search my messages.
Normally if a connection is slow to respond, mail just lets the slow connection do it's thing while everything else operates largely unhindered. With connection logging turned on, your Mail app is a slave to the slowest connection to a mail server (I have 8 total)
I had to crash mail over and over again to do a simple search of my messages until I happen to notice that this connection logging was turned on.  I found this thread, turned it off, now Mail works as well as it ever has (very buggy but usable)
How dare Apple do that behind my back!?  After all the problems there are Mail, they have the gall to turn on logging and reduce Mail to unusable?
I also deleted all the logs for a good house keeping seal of approvable.  They were here:
Some day Apple might consider hiring a test team... instead of relying on all the users.

  • How do I disable Keychain

For our users Keychain is a nightmare - especially because they do not remember the first password - as the network enforces them to change it every 90 days. With this the keychain pop keeps coming up constantly and is affecting the users working. So I would like to know how to stop keychain or to disable it?

    I'm having a similar problem.  I tried this:  http://www.ehow.com/how_8678285_disable-keychain-mac.html
And that got rid of the majority of the pop-ups, but it's still doing it.  I have to click "cancel" on the pop-ups 3 times each time it pops up, which is frequently.  In order to reset my password for this site so that I could post to this discussion I has to enter 2 characters into the box, click "cancel" on the pop-up 3X, enter 2 more characters, click cancel 3 more times...  etc. for both the new password and the confirmation.  It also wouldn't let me use the password I wanted to, which is why I couldn't remember what it was in the first place, it keeps making me change it to something new.  Aside from keeping passwords on a post it note on the computer, which would defeat the purpose, I don't know how to get around this.
...and I used to prefer macs because they were more user friendly.  I've been having trouble with tabs in safari not closing when I click on the "X", and other little stuff for a long time too.  In the last year or so I'm starting to think that as long as I have to put up with this kind of buggy stuff I might as well do it on a PC for half the price.

  • HELP! How to I disable SkyDrive on a Mac/Maverick!!!

I am being prompted ever day to continue to upload amassing file. I can't get it out of my dock. It constantly reloads. Mac has indicated that it may be causing crashes to my computer. What are you people thinking?? I don't want. Why did you ram it into
my computer without my consent?! I have seen the threads about this and I wish I was the kind of person who could call it there more vehement notes. You have to understand that this all cumulatively destroys your brand value. No one wants a Microsoft product
after interactions like this. I have worked extensively for Microsoft and and I know how you screw it up completely from the inside. Sigh. The personal computer paradigm may indeed have run it's course.

  • Possible / how to completely disable Keychain??

    Hi,
I know Keychain has its fans, though I suspect most of them don't have to use it in a corporate environment, where AD users have to change passwords every month. It drives our users nuts (and me!).
I know they only have to go into Keychain Access and reset it, and I've explained to them how to do that countless times, but they still get tied into knots with it. Far better for them to just re-enter their password for each network connection (only one in our case, so no great hassle).
Don't want any advice on 'how best to use the Keychain', or to be told how wonderful it is. I simply want to banish it from our systems completely, for ever and ever (Amen!). Is this possible (short of screwing up the machine)?
    Any help most welcome thanks.
I've already searched around but can find nothing about how to kill the thing. Does anyone else hate Keychain as much as me?

    Hi, Jack.
By "AD" I presume you mean Active Directory.
AFAIK, you can't:• For starters, some applications, like Mail, Safari, and others are "Keychain-aware" and depend on the the keychain and Keychain Services for saving and retrieving account and password info. It's also involved in saving certificates. Remove keychain and such apps are likely to break.
    • Second, it's a core part of the OS, specifically Mac OS X Security Services.I see your options as follows:
    1. You may want to see if there's a way to configure AD so it does not use the Keychain. However, this means users will have to enter their passwords every time unless AD provides some other secure method for saving them.
    2. You have an educational problem here, not a technical problem. Create a tutorial for them, including screen shots, showing them how to update the password. Define a Test User to use in the illustrations so you don't have to use your own account. Then given everyone a copy and place it on one of your servers so folks can download the tutorial when needed.
    Good luck!

  • How do I transfer Keychains from one mac to another mac?

I recently got a new imac. I choose during the set-up process for the new imac to pass on pulling "all" the old information from my old G4 mac as there was stuff I just did not want to move and then have to find and delete on the new mac. However I would like to bring over specific items such as keychains.
What is the best method to move my keychains from my old mac to my new one? I have tried several method that did not work.

KT & V.T good suggestion which I had done previously what I missed was not only making sure the passwords were the same (changed my login password on the new imac). Also I was apparently only doing 1/2 of the process as I would use Keychain to create the new keychains but as soon as I disconnected from the G4 the new login in file went blank.
    Here was my complete process.
On my g4 imac the one that had the keychain info for my new imac. I made a duplicate of the file and renamed them so I would know where they came from and they would not conflict with current login file. I then moved them to my public folder users/yourname/library/keychain on the G4.
On my new mac I move those files from the G4 public folder into my new mac users/yourname/library/keychain. Then I opened Keychain access and in the file menu selected Add Keychain navigated to the above volume and selected the old keychain.
Any other process than this left me with empty login folder once I disconnected from my old G4.
Thanks again to KT & V.T who made me read and think a little more about what I needed to do.

  • How do I stop Keychain pop up from prompting me for my password

    Hey,
I'm using Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Lync, and the company work for makes me change my password every 90 days. I recently had a problem where i couldn't log into Outlook because keychain access was trying to log into Outlook with my older passwords. I finally got that done by deleting the old passwords, and no longer want to save my passwords in keychain. However, I have a lot of convenient passwords save in keychain, and don't want to loose them. How can I disable keychain access for only my Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Lync, where everything else is fine? I want to keep using keychain access for other tools, websites etc, but not for outlook/Lync- Can you guys help, please?

I had the same problem for a long time - do the following :
    Go to Finder.
In the top menu select Go.
    Select Go to Folder.
    Enter ~/Library/Keychains.
Delete All Keys Related to OC_KeyContainer.

  • How do I disable iMessage on my MacBook pro?

I have purchased a MacBook Pro for Christmas and whilst viewing different applications I couldn't close the message application unless I typed in my Apple id password. Now, I am recieving iMessages at not only my iPhone and iPod but my mac too. How can i disable this on my mac???

I just figured this out, yay! You need to be on your laptop to do this. Open the iMessage app, then look up at the top left of the screen on your laptop and it should be the apple icon, "messages", File, Edit, View, History, etc. Click on "Messages", then click on "Preferences", then click on the accounts in the box on the left - because a pop-up will open after you click on "Preferences". I was unable to remove the accounts, but I was able to uncheck all the boxes and disable the accounts. Voila! Mission accomplished.

  • What is going on with Java? How do I disable if needed?

What is going on with Java. Should I be concerned? How do I disable Java on my Mac if needed?

Don't believe anyone who says that Macs are 100% secure and malware free. There have been several notable instances where after hearing this many people have found themselves in the midst of a Mac malware outbreak (MacDefender, DNSChanger, and Flashback, just to name a few).
These attacks have been rare, and with "many people" being around 1 percent of all Mac users, for now this has been far of an issue than on other platforms, but security issues do exist for Macs.
Whether or not this warrants the use of special security software is up to you.
My recommendation is to keep a low-key and free malware scanner on your system, such as iAntivirus, ClamXav, or Sophos Home edition that can be configured to only run on-demand, and then should you feel the need use it to run a scan of your system every now and then. You can also use a reverse firewall like Little Snitch to monitor all outbound connections, which was key for many Mac users who found evidence of the Flashback malware on their systems when that outbreak occurred (just see here for the thread where many detected the suspect behavior: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3844172).
Since malware is still quite rare on Mac systems, it is debatable as to whether or not security software is necessary, but my stance is if configured as I described then there is very minimal chance it will adversely affect the system. I've configured numerous Macs with anti-malware utilities and have not seen any problems with them, so for the most part there should be neglegable impact (if any). Keep in mind some security tools are more intrusive than others, and include a number of scanning routines that are enabled by default, so each one has its own approaches that will need to be considered. The ones I mentioned here are very light-weight.
The thing that will keep your system safest is (besides "common sense" safe computing practices) to use plugin managers and ad-blockers to prevent Java, Flash, and other plug-ins and scripts from launching automatically.
