How do I disable Mail?

Mail's been such a clunker I've moved over to Thunderbird.
However, Mail is still loading an email account, when I have deleted all the accounts and even the files in the Library/ Mail folder (and yes, I'd backed them up to external HD just in case).
I use POP and MobileMe, but it's the MMe that keeps 'returning'.

1. Mail activates throughout the day, regardless of login.
2. Mail activates while I'm working, even when I'm offline.

  • How can I disable mail.app?

I want to disable mail.app.  I don't buy that it's "needed by OS X."  I want it shut off, or preferably uninstalled.  I found a better app that still lets me read newsgroups, and mail.app just gets in the way.  I had to go in and tell Google Calendar to shut off email notifications to stop the Notification Center from opening mail.app without me wanting it.
I might consider re-enabling mail.app, but not now.  Maybe not ever.  I bought a Mac so applications would only run when I want them.  This is not it.

Hey, I too have mail.app open on its own even though it is not the default email program and I do not "open" or "click" on it. I also--I don't think--have any accounts configured. When it opens all I see is the "Welcome to Mail" page.
    Major annoyance.
Do you have any recommendations or suggestions on how to prevent mail.app from opening?
    Much thanks,

I am doing an email migration and need to be able to disable mail delivery to Thunderbird without uninstalling it. Thanks.

If you select something else while Firefox is full size, what ever you have selected
should open on top of Firefox. FF does not have a "always on top" option.

Change your email account password, and any other passwords that your iPad might be remembering.  If you set up a MobileMe or iCloud account on it and enabled Find My iPad, then you can use that to lock the iPad as well as locate it.

  • After upgrading to Safari 6.0 (running 10.7.4), when launching Safari, Mail also launches.  How do I disable Mail from launching simultaneously?

Whenever I try to open only Safari, Mail automatically launches.  I cannot seem to figure out how to stop it from doing this.  I am certain that this is not about programs launching at login.  It only began after I did the Safari 6.0 update.  I cannot find anything in preferences on how to stop Mail from launching.

Read this whole message before doing anything.
Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now.
Quit Safari if it’s running. Then select  ▹ Force Quit... from the menu bar. A small window will open with a list of running applications. Safari may appear in that list, even though you quit it. If so, select it and press return. Close the window.
    Step 1
In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. Select the Safari icon in that folder and press the key combination command-I to open the Info window. There’s a checkbox in the Info window labeled Open in 32-bit mode. Uncheck it, if checked. Close the Info window and the Applications folder.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
    Caches/com.apple.Safari
    Caches/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess
    Caches/Metadata/Safari
    Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginHost.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess.plist
    Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Leave the Library folder open. Try Safari again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder.
    Step 2
If you still have problems, quit Safari again.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    rm -fr $TMPDIR../C/com.apple.Safari
Quit Terminal. Launch Safari and test.
    Step 3
If Safari still doesn’t work right, quit, go back to the Finder and move the following items from the open Library folder to the Desktop (some may not exist):
    Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.LSSharedFileList.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.WebFoundation.plist
    PubSub/Database
    Safari
(Note: you are not moving the Safari application. You’re moving a folder named “Safari.”)
Try again. This time Safari should perform normally, but your settings and bookmarks will be lost.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Safari again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were, overwriting the newer ones that will have been created in their place. You don’t need to replace the files you deleted in step 1. Stop here and post again.
If Safari is now working normally (apart from the lost settings), look inside the “Safari” folder on the Desktop for a file named “Bookmarks.plist”. Select File ▹ Import Bookmarks from the Safari menu bar. Import from that file. Recreate the rest of your Safari settings. You can then delete the items you moved to the Desktop.
Note: This step will remove your Safari Extensions, if any, and their settings. If you choose to restore them, do so one at a time, testing after each step to make sure you haven’t restored the problem.
If you don’t like the results of step 3, you can undo it completely by quitting Safari and restoring the items you moved or deleted in that step from your backup, overwriting any that were created in their place.

  • How can I disable e-mail and text messages when I'm close to or over my data quota ?

How can I disable e-mail and text messages when I'm close to or over my data quota ?
Is this possible? I don't see any options?
    All I see is this:
Receive confirmations of many account transactions via Email and/or free Text Alerts delivered right to your cell phone. You can receive these confirmations for
transactions done online, over the phone or from your handset. Account management Text Alerts do not count against any Messaging allowances.
Your bill is ready for review.
Payment Confirmations: Your payment has been  received    Your credit/adjustment     has been applied.1
Account Activity Confirmations     Plan changes     Feature changes1

    What phone?
You would need to disable data on the phone itself.  You wouldn't do it online on your account.
Note also that text messages do not count toward your data allowance.

I think there is not native rule for this, but you could try a transport rule which removes all attachments over a very small file size like 1KB.

  • How to disable mail inline attachments yosemite

Since installing Yosemite I have customers unable to download pdf attachments sent to them with Mac Mail. I purchased Attachment Tamer some time ago but it isn't yet supported for Yosemite and given the time taken I suspect it may not be updated. I believe the problem comes from the handling of attachments as "inline". Has Apple or any one else got a solution for this problem?

I need to disable mail forwarding for few users. TO achieve this I implemented a script which deletes "mailForwardingAddress" and "mailDeliveryOption: forward" for those users periodically. Though these delete operations run successfully, the forwarding still works. What do you mean by "the forwarding still works"? Remember that Messaging Server MTA processes have an LDAP cache which can take 10-15 minutes to expire. So changing the forwarding setting may not be immediately reflected.
What output do you get for the command:
    ./imsimta test -rewrite <users email address>
I read somewhere that an ACI on the LDAP attribute for forwarding would work. But I'm not sure how to do this.If you don't know how to create/edit/maintain LDAP ACI's then you shouldn't be going down this path. A small mistake can result in large problems.

  • How do i disable entourage so i can start using mail

how do i disable entourage so i can start receiving emails in mail?

I have different email addresses set up in the two applications. Entourage for my business, and Mail for my personal emails. My personal emails will not go to Entourage if I have not told Entourage to receive them (i.e. set up an account for them). If you do not want Entourage to receive emails, then delete any accounts you may have set up in it. Set up your accounts in Mail, and you will then receive your emails in Mail. You can use both applications if you wish.

  • Can anyone advise me how I can disable Connection Logging in Mac mail please it seems to have been added when I changed my internet settings thanks very much

Can anybody advise me how I can disable "Connection Logging which has set itself up in Mail, when the settings were changed for internet connection I am running OSX mavericks  10.9.3 thanks very much

I certainaly did not turn connection logging on but the effect was disastrous.  Mail would not respond as long as there was a slow connection. I figured this out through turning off all network connections and watching Mail spring back to life and let me search my messages.
Normally if a connection is slow to respond, mail just lets the slow connection do it's thing while everything else operates largely unhindered. With connection logging turned on, your Mail app is a slave to the slowest connection to a mail server (I have 8 total)
I had to crash mail over and over again to do a simple search of my messages until I happen to notice that this connection logging was turned on.  I found this thread, turned it off, now Mail works as well as it ever has (very buggy but usable)
How dare Apple do that behind my back!?  After all the problems there are Mail, they have the gall to turn on logging and reduce Mail to unusable?
I also deleted all the logs for a good house keeping seal of approvable.  They were here:
Some day Apple might consider hiring a test team... instead of relying on all the users.
