How do i disable "Move Tab in focus" keyboard shortcut (CTRL + L/R ARROW)

how do i disable the keyboard shortcut for[[http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Keyboard%20shortcuts#w_windows-tabs|"Move Tab in focus" (CTRL + L/R ARROW)]] ? i know that firefox does not support customizing keyboard shortcuts, but is there a way to disable this specific keyboard shortcut?
i tried disabling all extensions ("safe mode")
i looked around in about:config and i couldn't find anything
FF version 4.0.1
Extensions: DownThemAll, Google Image Help, Google Shortcuts, LastPass, SortPlaces, Tab Utilities, VideoDownloadHelper, Xmarks
Windows version 7 Pro 64bit with SP1 and all updates as of 2011-05-22

Did you try to start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem?<br />
You can switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes) to check if the theme is causing it.
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
* Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • How can I disable the tabs in safari on the ipad2

How can I disable the tabs on safari on my ipad2. I hate the tabs!!!

You can't, Safari on iOS 5 on the iPad uses tabbed browsing. You can try leaving feedback for Apple and maybe in a future update we'll get the choice of tabs or thumbnail/paged browsing : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
In the meantime I think that the (free) Opera browser and the iCab Mobile browser in the app store offer thumbnail browsing to some degree.

How do I disable scrolling tabs in Firefox 17 without adding an extension from an

Or I don't know put it back the way everyone wants it... Call me crazy.

Do you mean by setting a lower minimum width for the tabs to make more tabs fit on the tab bar before scroll buttons appear?
The Custom Tab Width extension adds this CSS rule and adjust the settings from the browser.tabs.tabMinWidth and browser.tabs.tabMaxWidth prefs.
    * Custom Tab Width: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/custom-tab-width/
Add this code to the userChrome.css file below the default @namespace line if you do not want to use the extension.

    <pre><nowiki>@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

  • Move Tab in focus to start and end doesn't work

I can't use the shortkey to move the tab to start or end, it only moves the scrollbar in that particular tab to bottom and top of the page.
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/keyboard-shortcuts-perform-firefox-tasks-quickly?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Keyboard+shortcuts#w_editing

You can use code in the userChrome.css file to make the tab focusable.
Add code to the <b>userChrome.css</b> file below the default @namespace line.
    <pre><nowiki>@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */
    .tabbrowser-tab[selected="true"] {-moz-user-focus: normal !important;}
    </nowiki></pre>
The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the <b>chrome</b> folder in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    * Create the chrome folder (lowercase) in the <xxxxxxxx>.default profile folder if this folder doesn't exist
    * Use a plain text editor like Notepad to create a (new) userChrome.css file in this folder (the names are case sensitive)
    * Paste the code in the userChrome.css file in the editor window and make sure that the userChrome.css file starts with the default @namespace line
    * Make sure that you select "All files" and not "Text files" when you save the file via "Save file as" in the text editor as userChrome.css. Otherwise Windows may add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with a not working userChrome.css.txt file

  • How can I find and disable Page Down in the Keyboard Shortcuts menu?

I often accidentally hit Page Down because it's right beside my arrow keys. It seems to switch to the next symbol in the library which is something I never under any circumstances would want to do. How do I disable this incredibly annoying keyboard shortcut? I can't find it anywhere in the unsearchable rat's nest that is the Keyboard Shortcut menu.

Aha, thank you for drawing my attention to the export html button, it does make it possible to search those keyboard shortcuts.
In my case, View -> Go to -> Next was set to nothing. More oddly, the words "Page Down" don't appear anywhere at all in the generated file, and when I set another random command (Zoom In) to use Page Down it didn't warn of a conflict. Hitting page down zoomed in instead of switching me to another symbol, and when I cleared the shortcut from zoom in it went back to swapping between symbols. I guess I'll have to set something benign to use the page down key.
Bizarre. I guess this must be a bug in CS6?

  • How to make a tts text-to-speech keyboard shortcut

    Hi,
How do I make a tts text-to-speech keyboard shortcut
to control the OSX "Speech" available as a contextual menu
when you right-click selected text in Safari, TextEdit and other native apps
    *Speech > Start Speaking*
    *Speech > Stop Speaking*
    I can get this far:
*System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts >*
I have low-vision and need this on as many as possible or all text running on my computer.
Less important: The "Speech" contextual menu is not available right-clicking text in Google Chrome. I could sure use it there too.
    THANKS!

If you want it turned on permanently open Universal Access preferences, click on the Seeing tab, turn on VoiceOver. Click on the VoiceOver Application button for more configuration options.
There's also a shortcut option for TTS in the Speech preferences.

  • How to I show a tooltip using a keyboard shortcut?

Hi, does any one know how to show a tooltip for the currently active item in a web page using the keyboard? I can get tooltips to display using the mouse, but I'd like a keyboard shortcut too. Shift -F1 didn't help, nor Ctrl-F1.

  • How do I get Safari to recognize changed keyboard shortcuts?

I am trying to setup a simple, memorable keyboard shortcut for switching between tabs (a useful feature that I wish Safari made easier).  I wanted to do option+arrow key.  So I sent to System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts and created the shortcut.
The new shortcut shows up in Safari when I drop down the Window menu, but the shortcut doesn't actually work.  When I hit option+L or R arrow key, the window does not switch to the next or previous tab.
I even went back to Keyboard Shorcuts in System Preferences and created another "All Applications" shortcut with the same command.  It still doesn't work.
Any thoughts?  Has anyone successfully changed the "Select Next Tab" or "Select Previous Tab" commands in Safari?
    Thanks!

some shortcuts just don't work in some apps, and safari won't allow arrow keys with a single modifier (these shortcuts do other things in text fields).  it's best to pick something memorable but unique to avoid any conflicts.

  • How can I disable animated tab effects in Firefox 19.0?

I updated Firefox a few days ago from 18.0.2 to 19.0 and now see that the tabs slide around when I drag to rearrange them or try to ppostion a tab over a bookmarks toolbar folder for bookmarking. The tab being dragged also gets transparent although I don't recall that happening previously unless it was moved over the browser window. Although I see reference to a similar animation problem for 17.0 I had no issues until the recent update.
I have Tab Mix Plus installed but see no settings that have to do with tab animation. Browser.Tab.Animate in about:config is already to set to "false".
This is annoying, useless and when I am trying to drag a tab across the tabs bar onto the bookmarks toolbar the tab will hang up in a "phantom" position at the point where it crosses the tab bar. How do I undo this or turn it off, short of adding yet another extension to deal with it (Tab Utilities)?

    Good, so I'm not crazy.
I'm still having the same problem and it slows down my browsing experience considerably since I do a lot of drag-and-drop bookmarking. The browser hangs frequently after dragging a tab to a toolbar folder, then you have to wait for the tab to "fly back" to its original position.
The same with rearranging tabs -- it has to be positioned _just so_ where it is being moved to or the move doesn't take and I have to do it again
As you confirmed, this has nothing to do with browser.tabs.animate as mine is currently set to "false" and had been all along, even before this maddening behavior (including tab transparency when tabs overlap) became visible.
I suspect there is a css edit or Greasemonkey script solution but have not have time to look anything up. I wasted enough time Googling this only to keep turning up the browser.tabs.animate "solution" over and over. It would be nice if there was at least some acknowledgement from other users or the usual problem solvers that this was not normal behavior before.

  • How do I disable tearaway tabs?

I just upgraded to firefox 4.0 and had forgotten about the tearaway tabs feature (because I had installed an extension that disables it in 3.X that didn't port into 4.0). I've seen a large number of people talk about having a way to turn it off since it was implemented, and I'm hoping that in 4.0 they've given us a way; but I can't seem to find it.
Please, please, please, how do I turn this off? I use a Wacom tablet and very frequently I end up tearing away tabs when I intend to select them, and it is incredibly annoying.

Unfortunately, you mostly see posts from those who don't like tear off tabs. Posts about that have declined drastically since it first appeared as a possible "bug". As I said, most users now consider it a feature. Just be careful about moving your mouse when you are on a tab with the left-click mouse button pressed.
If there were on-screen prefernces for everything, it would be too cumbersome for users. Any new hidden preferences would just make the prefs file grow as well as the under-lying code to support those.
Keep watching that Mozillazine link that I posted. Alice is very active in the threads for her extensions on Mozillazine and she will post in that thread when an update to
'''''bug489729 (Disable detach and tear off tab''''' is available for Firefox 4.

  • How do I disable/prevent tabbed browsing in ver 9 the way I do now in 3.6?

I am one of those folks who dislikes tabbed browsing and prefers to use multiple windows. This is a snap in version 3.6 which I am still using. The newer versions seem to place a premium on using tabs and some other things I also would rather not have nor see on my screen.
I am trying to find out if in version 9 if I can still easily avoid anything to do with tabs. That is to prevent the use of tabs most times and automatically have new links I click open in new windows as they do now?
I also want to know how closely it possible to make ver 9 look like how I have ver 3.6 now. There is a lot of stuff in ver 9 on the various bars I would like to know if I can delete. For example can I remove the "Most Visited", "Getting Started" and "Latest Headlines" stuff? I really hate clutter and ver 9 seems to be adept at providing it from what I can tell by reading on this site.
    Thanks
Finally, I find trying to surf this site for info very difficult. The info I want never comes up in my searches. Is there a comprehensive manual I can find someplace which would describe what each and every button etc. does in ver 9?

You are welcome - they are in the receiver's inbox - when you use iPhoto last th email client there is no sent mailbox - one of many reasons that I personally recommend that people use mail

  • Can I disable forward TAB when focus is in last JTable column

I am new to Swing. My boss hates the fact that when the focus is in a cell in the right most column, when you press TAB, it wraps to the beginning of the next line. He wants the behavior to be that a TAB from the last column stays right where it is. This must be a simple question but I have been searching and haven't found the place with the answer.
    Thank you.

Thank you, V.V., I didn't realize that the two issues were related.
    Previously, you wrote:
Override the processKeyBinding method in a class that extends JTable. This method traps every keyevent (including those generated by menu accelerators, so be sure to build procedures to do something with them or ignore them so you don't double up on the processing of those keys). Find out which key you can to use for navigating around the table and do something with those keys. For the rest of the keyevents, check to see if it is a type KeyEvent.KEY_TYPE, if so the KeyboardFocusManager to displatch the event to your JDialog.
    ;o)
    V.V.
If I understand your reference to your previous answer, I need to trap the TAB KeyEvent and if I am in the last column of the JTable, I should make sure that I stay where I am. Am I understanding you correctly ?
    thank you for your patience,
    W.W.

  • How do I disable the tab with 'Firefox for Android' advertisement ? It is freaking me out

Every time I open the Firefox browser, a new tab opens up with the ad suggesting me to try Firefox for android mobile. This is additional tab along with my regular home tab. My browser version is Firefox funnel cake 22.0 . It is freaking me out as this happens every time I open the browser. Provide me a solution or tell me to switch to a different browser. I mean who is the dumb idiot who suggested this idea ? Really ?? you want the add to stay there and irritate users everytime they open it ?

Try to change your new tab by going to about:config, and in that address bar type in browser.newtab.url, right click it, and then hit modify. There will be a window that pops up that will let you type in the address you want to show up in your new tabs. There also might be a warning when going to about:config, but just accept it if it's there.
