How do i disable my keyboard in favor of my wireless keyboard?

My problem is that some time ago, my nephew got a hold of my macbook and pounded on the keys to the point were half of them don't work. I got a wireless keyboard, but often the screeen starts scrolling by itself as what i would imagine the arrow keys get stuck on. in other words, sometimes certain keys on the built in keyboard randomly go off, because of the damage, which seriously hinders anything else i try to do. I'd like to turn off the keys on the computer itself, and only use the wireless for input but i haven't been able to find an option in the system settings. I'm not sure if this is the best idea...as i can imagine a situation where my wireless breaks and i can't enter the password to access the computer or pair a new device. I'd imagine I'd have to have access to pair a new wireless keyboard, as i assume their not all addressed the same. (i'd think that would be a problem in say, an office full of them). Maybe the solution is to have the OG keys repaired, but i don't know if its doable, or what that costs...any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Otherwise, you don't. Backlit keyboards are a feature of the MacBook Pro, not MacBooks.

• IPhone SDK: How can I disable the keyboard on a UITextField

I would like to disable to keyboard for a UITextField. When someone touches the textfield, I would like them to be able to manipulate the cursor inside the field but I do not want a keyboard to appear.
In other words, simply unchecking the enable option in IB is not going to work. The field needs to be enabled but I would like the keyboard to stay hidden.
Any ideas?

Check UITextFieldDelegate textFieldShouldBeginEditing. Return NO and see what happens. I'm not sure if that will fix it though.

• How do I disable Mission Control in favor of old Spaces and Exposé?

Spaces was my favorite feature from previous versions and now they upgraded (killed) it. I loved having a Space for each kind of activity, like browsing or email or system-related tasks, and so on. Now it’s all confusing and I still don’t know how to assign apps to a space. I don’t like either that you have to go over all of them to get to a specific one and there’s no easy way of recalling where -recently unassigned opened- your app was, you have to go thru Mission Control. It’s irritating.
I know you can go directly to a Space by using ^+the number or the space, but I liked way more the grid in which they were set up before.
The window management system OS X is one of the major things I choose this OS over all the other but now it's getting screwed up. It seems like an OS for iOS to Mac OS switchers. Is there some file or setting I have to edit like in Terminal? An app to buy? Anything.
I really appreciate your help.
UPDATE: I just learned how to assign applications to a space, from the application's dock menu, yet the fact that spaces are not fixed and you can easily close them by just clicking the X that on it, keeps me a little too uneasy.

Some people hate it, some like it.

At least now we can have up to 16 spaces.
Work in multiple spaces
When projects pile up and your desktop becomes cluttered, you can use Spaces to organize your windows into groups. For example, create a space for work, another for games, and a third for chatting and checking email messages.
Add one or more spaces
Enter Mission Control using one of these methods:
From a trackpad, swipe up using three or four fingers.
From the keyboard, press the Mission Control key. If your keyboard doesn’t have a Mission Control key, press F9 (Fn-F9 on portable keyboards).
Move the pointer toward the upper-right corner of your screen.
To add a space, click the Add button (+). You can add up to 16 spaces.
To leave Mission Control, swipe again, or press the key you used to enter Mission Control.
HideMove from one space to another
Do any of these:
Swipe left or right with three fingers to scroll through your spaces.
Enter Mission Control, and then click the space you want to use.
Press the Control key and the number key for the space you want. For example, press Control-3 to go to Desktop 3.
Press the Control key and an arrow key to scroll through the spaces.
HideMove a window from one space to another
Do any of these:
Drag the window to the edge of your screen and pause; after a moment, the window is switched to the next space.
Move the pointer over the window, and hold down the mouse button while pressing the Control key and an arrow or number key.
From the space that has the window you want to move, enter Mission Control. Then drag the window itself (not the thumbnail image) up to the space you want to use.
HideDecide which spaces to use with particular applications
If you work in multiple spaces, you can assign applications to particular spaces.
Press and hold an application’s icon in the Dock. You may have to first open the application from Launchpad to see its icon in the Dock.
From the shortcut menu that appears over the icon, choose one of these:
To have the application open only in the current space, choose Options > This Desktop. From now on the application will open in the current space; if you are working in a different space, the application’s space scrolls into view.
To have the application open in every space, choose Options > All Desktops. From now on, when the application is open it will appear in every space.
To have the application open in the whichever space you are currently using, choose Options > None.
In Mission Control preferences, you can specify that when switching to an application, your desktop should scroll to a space with open windows for that application.
Delete a space
Enter Mission Control using one of these methods:
From a trackpad, swipe up using three or four fingers.
From the keyboard, press the Mission Control key. If your keyboard doesn’t have a Mission Control key, press F9 (Fn-F9 on portable keyboards).
Move the pointer over the the space you want to delete. After a moment a delete button (x) appears on the space.
Click the delete button (x) to remove the space. If the space contains windows, the windows are moved to another space.

• How do i disable "Move Tab in focus" keyboard shortcut (CTRL + L/R ARROW)

how do i disable the keyboard shortcut for[[http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Keyboard%20shortcuts#w_windows-tabs|"Move Tab in focus" (CTRL + L/R ARROW)]] ? i know that firefox does not support customizing keyboard shortcuts, but is there a way to disable this specific keyboard shortcut?
i tried disabling all extensions ("safe mode")
i looked around in about:config and i couldn't find anything
FF version 4.0.1
Extensions: DownThemAll, Google Image Help, Google Shortcuts, LastPass, SortPlaces, Tab Utilities, VideoDownloadHelper, Xmarks
Windows version 7 Pro 64bit with SP1 and all updates as of 2011-05-22

Did you try to start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem?
You can switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes) to check if the theme is causing it.
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in [[Safe mode]]:
* Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

No, Firefox is user choice rules over the "wants" of individual websites as far as disabling contextual menus and the keyboard commands.
Placing a transparent image over the image will keep the less technical user from saving the main image. If they do try to save it all they'll get is the transparent image overlay.

• How do I disable this softwares keyboard short cut?

Hello,
I seem to have to Force Quit Photoshop alot: Command-Option-Esc.
As well as having to lose work, I get the added bonus of this software fading into existence and taking over my screen. Nice and slow and taking it's time in leaving as well when I hit Escape.
I imagine the keyboard command for Force Quit is the same, to launch this software. How do I disable this?
Also, because I'm in an environment where User based control of the equipment I'm using is alien to IT, I can't simply throw it out.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thank you.
-Vincent

The keyboard shortcut to open Front Row is command-esc. Command-option-esc is Force Quit.
You can un-check the option to use command-esc for Front Row in the Keyboard System Preferences under the "Keyboard Shortcuts" tab.

• How can I disable making live shape rectangle in the first place but normal one instead in Illustrator CC?

How can I disable making live shape rectangle in the first place but normal one instead in Illustrator CC? When I create rectangle I can't transform it by dragging and it's only the problem with rectangle, not with circle, star etc. I try show/hide edges/bounding box reset preferences and reinstall whole illustrator CC and it's the same. I can only make this right by expand this rectangle, which is shape as is turn out to rectangle by clicking object>shape>expand rectangle. But this is so frustrating. Help!:) oh, and I use OSX. My friend has the same specs and it's works. I mean she can use live shape corner transformations and changing size by draging:(

I’ve created my own plugin (available for free for personal and commercial use) which imitates behavior of the ‘old’ Rectangle Tool. It doesn’t replace the Live Rectangle – it works completely independent!
My Plain Rectangle Tool correctly snaps to grids/objects/points and correctly aligns to grid/points on resize. Of course it supports the SHIFT and ALT/OPTION keys, Snap to Grid and Smart Guides options. In other words it works almost 100% the same as the Rectangle Tool we know from CC (17.1), CS6 and earlier.
The installation package (zxp) adds ‘Plain Rectangle Tool’ icon into the Ai panel (of curse you can assign your custom keyboard shortcut to it as well)
Note: The Plain Rectangle can be easily converted into the Live one using Object > Shape > Convert to Rectangle
Grab your copy at http://63mutants.com/subc/products/PlainRectangleTool_m01/PlainRectangleTool_m01.php Feel free to share with your friends. It’s completely free.
I’ve also created a separate discussion https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1587587 for the Plain Rectangle Tool. If you have any comments or request please post it there. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

how to disable a keyboard key control in listview ?
example
page down
Thank's

Register an event filter and consume the event before it gets processed by the list view. Specifically for page down it can look like this:
listView.addEventFilter(KeyEvent.ANY, new EventHandler<KeyEvent>() {
@Override public void handle(KeyEvent event) {
if (event.getCode() == KeyCode.PAGE_DOWN) {
event.consume();

• How can I disable the shift-click slow motion special effects in Mac OS 10.6?

How can I disable the slow motion special effects that occur when you do something and hold shift? (By the way, the terminal command doesn't work in 10.6)

I'd like to know how to do this now too since the terminal command doesn't work in Lion / ML. Anyone know how?
And Leroy - the reason is because I have custom hot keys configured and the shift key is a key I want to use for this command. I would like to know how to disable the slow motion effect permanently since I never need it and would certainly like to use my shift key as a modifier for various keyboard commands.
