  • How do I disable private browsing on my computer?

I don't want anyone to be able to private browse using my computer.

There is no built-in option to disable private browsing. You can remove the menu items for opening private browsing, but it will still be possible to access it using a keyboard shortcut. • How can I disable private browsing for middle school students on school laptops?

Hello, I work for a school district and one of the schools within the district is a digital academy meaning the students work completely with laptops. The grade level of these students range from 6th to 12th grade. We need to be able to install pulgins to block explicit content and then disable private browsing's ability to subvert them. They are working on laptops provided by the school with an ubuntu linux derivative running on them. the version of firefox is 5. I have tried the solution from http://kb.mozillazine.org/User:Dickvl/Private_Browsing_disable
and it works with firefox 4 but not 5. Please Help! No matter how closely a child is watched you cannot watch them all the time and parents as well as teachers need to know what kids are up to.
    -Thanks

Thanks dmcritchie! I was out all last week on summer break so I was pleasantly surprised to find your post and to find that you are right!

  • How can I disable tab groups?

Please tell me how to disable tab groups? I don't want this feature, I'd like to return to old individual tabs, which are not hiding

Don't use them. If you have created a tab group then delete that group.

  • How do I disable tabs entirely?

I have unchecked everything in the Preferences' tabs panel but they keep appearing anyway. The add-on "Tab Killer" is no longer in development since Firefox 3.6... so that isn't an option anymore... but there has to be a way to disable tabs since it's just one minor feature.
I don't know anyone who uses a Mac who actually likes tabs. Many Mac users tolerate tabs as a weird feature that browser developers seem obsessed about and think is useful... but then there's people like me who find it so annoying that we just cannot use a browser with tabs sprouting up everywhere.
In the Mac it's easier/better to have a second window open. We don't have a severely limited GUI like Windows.

    Welcome,
I have a similar situation (4 kids, Mrs etc).
What I have done is I have one AppleID for iTunes (App, music etc) which is shared across all devices (only I know the password), then one AppleId per person for  iCloud (iMessages, Facetime and Mail).  Plus I can use Find my Phone to track where the kids are!
Works for me, your situation may be different.
    Regards,
    Shawn

  • How do I disable tabs?

I want to disable tabs. I use a Mac at home, so an application doesn't take the entire screen like on Windows, so tabs are a pointless distraction that constantly gets in the way. Opening a new window is much more convenient.
The extension TabKiller doesn't work on Firefox 4, so is there another way to entirely disable tabs? As for the moment I'm using Safari since Firefox 4 is utterly useless to me.

    Regrettably, no it doesn't.
If I encounter a link that "pops" i.e. starts with a new page, I'll always get it in an open tab. Back before tabs it would open a new window, but no longer. Firefox assumes I want a new tab, because everyone uses/loves tabs.
In Safari all I have to do is set "Open pages in new tabs" to "Never" and I'll never see another tab. In Firefox it becomes infrequent, but I still get new tabs popping up. For example, it's happened 5 times since I've been searching the Mozilla websites.
In Chrome, forget it. Tabs are integrated into the interface. Asking Google to disable them in Chrome is like asking them to pull their eyes out. I should know, I have tried. (But then Google doesn't listen to anyone. They poop rainbows, and don't dare suggest otherwise.)
If I can't find an answer this way I'll have to find the fellow who made Tab Killer and convince him to write an update for version 4, or I'll have to downgrade back to version 3.6

  • How do i disable predictive browser?

This thing can get you divorced... no matter how often you clear history cache etc etc, all anyone has to do is type a letter into the browser and all the sites youve visited beginning with the letters typed in will appear ... Someone please tell me you can disable this feature please?

You are able to specify whether History is saves, or cleared after each session, also there is a Private Browsing feature, that may be used temporarily or left on all the time. It is also possible to vary what appears as you enter into the location bar. Finally if you set up separate user accounts on your OS that will allow different users to be separated, or slightly more advanced separate firefox [[profiles]] may be setup.
None of this necessarily totally hides your internet activity from someone who knows what to look for and check (nor from your ISP/Employers IT Dept).

  • How do I disable tabs in Firefox 4?

Tabkiller existed for Firefox 3, and served those of us that *hate* the TDI interface of Firefox.
I already have a window manager to manage my windows, I don't need another one, thank you very much.
Please let me know if there's a hidden setting for disabling the damn things. It's the only thing keeping me from using FF4.

i dont know why it worked, but had two tabs open and i dragged one of the tabs down to the desktop. it gave me two instances of firefox. Since then i dont have tabs in firefox 4. might be just a bug, but i hope they dont fix it until they give us a way to turn tabs off officially.

  • How can I disable "tabs' completely?

I'm currently using Firefox version 16.0.2, I want to be able to get rid of tabs altogether.
I've read there was a "tabkiller" download but it says it doesn't work on FF versions later than 3.

Is there a specific reason you don't want to use tabs? If you don't want to use them you can just not open any more tabs, but usually they are more efficient that using a bunch of windows for example.

  • How do I disable Content Browser?

I am a student. I have my class on blackboard. I have been unable to "Add Attachment" to submit my assignments. My assignments are saved on my flash drive. When I hit the "Add Attachment" button, something called the "Content Browser" comes up. It will not allow me to upload files from my flash drive. It takes me to some place called "My Files," and I don't even know where that is.
