How do I disable tabs entirely?

I have unchecked everything in the Preferences' tabs panel but they keep appearing anyway. The add-on "Tab Killer" is no longer in development since Firefox 3.6... so that isn't an option anymore... but there has to be a way to disable tabs since it's just one minor feature.
I don't know anyone who uses a Mac who actually likes tabs. Many Mac users tolerate tabs as a weird feature that browser developers seem obsessed about and think is useful... but then there's people like me who find it so annoying that we just cannot use a browser with tabs sprouting up everywhere.
In the Mac it's easier/better to have a second window open. We don't have a severely limited GUI like Windows.

I have a similar situation (4 kids, Mrs etc).
What I have done is I have one AppleID for iTunes (App, music etc) which is shared across all devices (only I know the password), then one AppleId per person for iCloud (iMessages, Facetime and Mail). Plus I can use Find my Phone to track where the kids are!
Works for me, your situation may be different.

I want to disable tabs. I use a Mac at home, so an application doesn't take the entire screen like on Windows, so tabs are a pointless distraction that constantly gets in the way. Opening a new window is much more convenient.

If I encounter a link that "pops" i.e. starts with a new page, I'll always get it in an open tab. Back before tabs it would open a new window, but no longer. Firefox assumes I want a new tab, because everyone uses/loves tabs.
In Safari all I have to do is set "Open pages in new tabs" to "Never" and I'll never see another tab. In Firefox it becomes infrequent, but I still get new tabs popping up. For example, it's happened 5 times since I've been searching the Mozilla websites.
In Chrome, forget it. Tabs are integrated into the interface. Asking Google to disable them in Chrome is like asking them to pull their eyes out. I should know, I have tried. (But then Google doesn't listen to anyone. They poop rainbows, and don't dare suggest otherwise.)
If I can't find an answer this way I'll have to find the fellow who made Tab Killer and convince him to write an update for version 4, or I'll have to downgrade back to version 3.6

How do i disable iMessage entirely?

We are an apple family - phones, ipads, mac laptops and mac desktops. They are all logged into my apple ID, for obvious reasons - share apps, as well as ensure the kids can't stumble into anything I don't want them to, kids too young to have their own ID, etc. But with this new Maverick and iOS7, now the entire family can see my text messages and, for obvious reasons again, I don't really want the kids to see my text messages (particularly not those my wife and I exchange).
Yes, I've disabled iMessage on devices, but on the macs it's a pain (why it's not somewhere in settings is beyond belief). And then every time there's a new update, I have to go round every device and disable it again. And then I have to rely on the kids not turning on imessage again - and of course, they're young things that like to try new things, so they do turn it back on.
The whole idea is basically a nightmare idea designed by a 25 year old in California who's never had a thought about families. So... since I can't control it centrally, how to I kill off iMessage for good from my apple ID? And Facetime (same reasons)?

How do I disable tabs in Firefox 4?

Tabkiller existed for Firefox 3, and served those of us that *hate* the TDI interface of Firefox.
I already have a window manager to manage my windows, I don't need another one, thank you very much.
Please let me know if there's a hidden setting for disabling the damn things. It's the only thing keeping me from using FF4.

i dont know why it worked, but had two tabs open and i dragged one of the tabs down to the desktop. it gave me two instances of firefox. Since then i dont have tabs in firefox 4. might be just a bug, but i hope they dont fix it until they give us a way to turn tabs off officially.

Is there a specific reason you don't want to use tabs? If you don't want to use them you can just not open any more tabs, but usually they are more efficient that using a bunch of windows for example.

I blew it and tried to install Freemake Video converter and it installed a service that has been removed called entrusted search. Since then every time a new tab opens in Firefox, it opens the entrusted search by default, even though registry has been edited and all instances of entrusted have been removed. IE and Chrome do not exhibit this fault, and I can find nothing to remove or uninstall to restore FireFox to its original pristine state.

Is this at row level? If so, then set it as visible but not active in the Form settings. If it is a header field, then consider that the TAB is to validate a field and changing standard SAP logic is not advisable. Some more information on the exact field type will help me guide you better.

The Windows bar already functions as a tab bar. Those tabs are called "windows." So, I find Firefox tab windows superfluous. How can I disable them completely from Firefox 23? I don't need what is essentially TWO windows bars covering up the entire width of my widescreen monitor's image! I already have a Windows bar at the bottom of my screen and, if I really wanted to, I could change ITS position to the top of the screen, so that it would LOOK like the Firefox tab windows bar. Firefox TABS are, essentially, a superfluous SECOND WINDOWS BAR.
Here are my reasons for why I'd rather use Mozilla's Firefox, than Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Google's Chrome. I love and admire Firefox for Mozilla's intent on good security, for Firefox's Personas add-on, and for Firefox's free use of the Ad-Block add-on which, as you know, has the distinct virtue of reducing screen clutter--the last of which is my motive for wanting to get rid of the SUPERFLUOUS Firefox tabs "windows" bar. (In case you haven't guessed, I am deliberately referring to your Firefox tabs bar as a "Firefox tabs 'windows' bar," because TABS are WINDOWS!)

Let me clarify even more. The Firefox add-on you mention does not remove "tabs" windows. It only HIDES the "tabs" bar when there is only one "tab" in that window. It DOES NOT end "tabs." It does not turn "tabs" off.
I know this, because, even with the add-on you recommend, the "tabs" bar often re-appears when I open a link, which--for some unknown reason--Firefox defaults to opening in a second "tab" within the same window, rather than putting it in a new Windows bar window. This, of course, disregards what I want to happen.
I want to use my Windows bar to control my windows. I do not want my Firefox browser controlling my windows--which it calls "tabs." Can you tell me how to shut off "tabs?"

How do I disable the webpage preview that pops up when I hover my mouse over a tab?

I don't know why this started today, but it is driving me nuts!
I was surfing the net, when all of a sudden I noticed that whenever I hovered my mouse over one of my tabs, a (poorly rendered) preview of the webpage popped up from my mouse. I really do not need this feature. I don't need to have a mini-webpage preview of another tab.
Please, how do I disable this feature?
