How do I disable tabs opening a search provider
I blew it and tried to install Freemake Video converter and it installed a service that has been removed called entrusted search. Since then every time a new tab opens in Firefox, it opens the entrusted search by default, even though registry has been edited and all instances of entrusted have been removed. IE and Chrome do not exhibit this fault, and I can find nothing to remove or uninstall to restore FireFox to its original pristine state.
Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, firefox 22.0 and have a few years experience in registry and editing html and Visual Basic. Not a power user.
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
* [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
* [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
* [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
* [http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/ Hitman Pro]
* [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.

How do i disable the open/save image dialog box in firefox? I want to directly save the image file to the drive without clicking on save option everytime when saving an image. I'm using firefox ver 35.0.1 for windows 7.
Click on the Firefox menu. Then click "Options". Go to "Applications" tab. Search for jpg and png file type. You will find they have "Always ask" action attribute. Change it to "Save file".
Hope it will work fine for you. -
How do I disable the automatic google search in Safari
How do I disable the automatic google search mechanism in Safari 6.0.
When I type a url (or modify an existing one) if Safari doesn't understand/like what I type it does a Google (or whatever) search automatically.
If I have misspelled something, or made a typo, I want to know about it -- not have some twit program tell me what it thinks I wanted to know.
This is the same problem which exists for ISPs (and I realize that Apple is trying to grab the advertising dollars THEY get when you type in a bad URL).
I simply want to be able to turn OFF this "feature."
I also note that with this change it is no longer possible to select any search engine BUT Google. Annothe "feature" which I find utterly descriminating. There are many times when I want to see the results from different search engines -- as they all return different results, probably 90+% of the time. There's not really a way to disable that feature, apple decided it would be easier for customers to have the address bar and google search bar all in one.

What App is showing the message? If it is Safari, go to Settings-Safari-JavaScript and turn it ON.
If it is a different App, see if that App is in Settings and has a JavaScript option.

New tab opens unwanted search engine
I want to reconfigure new tab to a blank page. I accidentally allowed an app to reconfigure my New Tab feature in Firefox to open Yahoo search engine. I want to configure it to go back to Blank Page.
Ok, i had this too... not with yahoo, but with something called babylon search, which i didnt want AT ALL. I didnt know how to disable it and no one else seemed to know either but i successfully removed it and this is how
go to tools (in the task bar), then add ons.
go to extentions, or add ons and in there you will find yahoo (hopefully), uninstall and disable it and this should stop it from coming up on your tabs when you open one...
This worked for me and now i get blank tabs again :D -
I want to disable tabs. I use a Mac at home, so an application doesn't take the entire screen like on Windows, so tabs are a pointless distraction that constantly gets in the way. Opening a new window is much more convenient.
The extension TabKiller doesn't work on Firefox 4, so is there another way to entirely disable tabs? As for the moment I'm using Safari since Firefox 4 is utterly useless to me.Regrettably, no it doesn't.
If I encounter a link that "pops" i.e. starts with a new page, I'll always get it in an open tab. Back before tabs it would open a new window, but no longer. Firefox assumes I want a new tab, because everyone uses/loves tabs.
In Safari all I have to do is set "Open pages in new tabs" to "Never" and I'll never see another tab. In Firefox it becomes infrequent, but I still get new tabs popping up. For example, it's happened 5 times since I've been searching the Mozilla websites.
In Chrome, forget it. Tabs are integrated into the interface. Asking Google to disable them in Chrome is like asking them to pull their eyes out. I should know, I have tried. (But then Google doesn't listen to anyone. They poop rainbows, and don't dare suggest otherwise.)
If I can't find an answer this way I'll have to find the fellow who made Tab Killer and convince him to write an update for version 4, or I'll have to downgrade back to version 3.6 -
How do I disable tabs in Firefox 4?
Tabkiller existed for Firefox 3, and served those of us that *hate* the TDI interface of Firefox.
I already have a window manager to manage my windows, I don't need another one, thank you very much.
Please let me know if there's a hidden setting for disabling the damn things. It's the only thing keeping me from using FF4.i dont know why it worked, but had two tabs open and i dragged one of the tabs down to the desktop. it gave me two instances of firefox. Since then i dont have tabs in firefox 4. might be just a bug, but i hope they dont fix it until they give us a way to turn tabs off officially.

How do I disable Adobe opening my pdfs
Hi,
I recently clicked "yes" to a pop-up window that asked "Open all pdfs with Adobe Reader?"
I would like to turn off or disable this, so that when I click on a pdf it isn't automatically opened through Adobe Reader. How can I disable it?
I have Adobe Reader 10.0.0 and use a Mac with Mac OX 10.6.8.
Thank you!
KimThank you, but when I control click, I don't get a "get info" option. However, a drop down menu pops up with these options:
add sticky notes
select tool
hand tool
marquee zoom
previous view
rotate clockwise
print
find
document properties
page display preferences
When I click on "page display preferences, another window with many options pops up, but none of them seem to relate to "open with."
Any other ideas?
Thank you! -
How can I disable tab groups?
Please tell me how to disable tab groups? I don't want this feature, I'd like to return to old individual tabs, which are not hiding
Don't use them. If you have created a tab group then delete that group.

How do I disable tabs entirely?
I have unchecked everything in the Preferences' tabs panel but they keep appearing anyway. The add-on "Tab Killer" is no longer in development since Firefox 3.6... so that isn't an option anymore... but there has to be a way to disable tabs since it's just one minor feature.
I don't know anyone who uses a Mac who actually likes tabs. Many Mac users tolerate tabs as a weird feature that browser developers seem obsessed about and think is useful... but then there's people like me who find it so annoying that we just cannot use a browser with tabs sprouting up everywhere.
In the Mac it's easier/better to have a second window open. We don't have a severely limited GUI like Windows.Welcome,
I have a similar situation (4 kids, Mrs etc).
What I have done is I have one AppleID for iTunes (App, music etc) which is shared across all devices (only I know the password), then one AppleId per person for iCloud (iMessages, Facetime and Mail). Plus I can use Find my Phone to track where the kids are!
Works for me, your situation may be different.

How can I make tabs open to the right of tab line
Years of using FF 3.5 or lower made me get used to have a new tab opened at the end of the tabs line. since the 3.6 version a new tab is being opened to the right of the current tab which naturally causes me out of hobbit to keep closing the wrong tabs. In the settings I couldn't fins an option to restore the situation to the way it was. Any thought (except for - GET USED TO IT.... or similar answers)?
Wouldn't it be a useful option in tools->options->tabs to open new tabs at end? That way people can easily choose whatever their working preference is - mine is "at end" as it keep the tabs I'm going to get around to away from the ones I'm working on right now.
A check-box would be much simpler for the general user than hitting the "here there be dragons" area with all the potential pitfalls that lurk there. -
How to make new tabs open in the url I desire?
the info on the page that best describes the solution is way WAY too techie for non-tech-but-otherwise-intelligent people.
how about if you put something where non-tech-but-willing-to-try folks are likely to look for it, namely the "tab" area under "options"? perhaps a box that shows where firefox currently directs when a new tab is opened and a simplistic way to enter the desired url?
thank you.You can set the browser.newtab.url pref on the <b>about:config</b> page to the desired URL.
Type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the <i>Enter</i> key to open the <i>about:config</i> page like you open a website by typing the URL in the location bar.
*If you see a warning message then you can confirm that you want to access the about:config page.
You can use the Search bar at the top of the about:config page to locate preferences more easily
So in this case start typing browser.newtab until you see the line with the browser.newtab.url pref.
You can right-click this line and select modify and change the value of this pref to your preferred new tab website.

How to make spry tab open or scroll horizontally.
I saw a bunch of spay panels that scrolls horizontally. But
dont know how this is achieved.
There is a slide effect in Dreamweaver Behavior panel but it
only goes up and down or vertically.
I'm trying to create a bunch of Spry Tab panels, basically I
hide the tabs using CSS display none property, then I add a "next"
and Prev button, this allows the user to browse the panels without
the tabs.
The problem is, I need the spray content area to open or
scroll horizontally instead of vertically or up and down.
Any ideas? Thanks

Sounds like you really should be using the Spry Sliding
panels:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/slidingpanels/SlidingPanelsSample.html
You can make them go vertical, horizontal, or even a
combination. This widget isn't built into Dreamweaver, so you'll
need to add the appropriate markup manually. FOr more info check
out the Spry API docs:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/articles/data_api/index.html
Select Sliding panels on the left, and then start off with

I want FF to start searching the word in the current page only after I type the word completely in the find bar and after I click the 'next' or 'previous' button, or 'Enter'...
Thank you, Cor-el, that seems a sollution to my problem.
I tried to download the extension, but I don't seem to get it to work. Where do I save it and how can I make it installing itself?
