How do I disable the autocomplete function in Firefox 5?

In Firefox 4 I was somehow able to make sure Firefox did NOT remember everything I filled in on forms (usernames, emailadresses, etc.); now (using Firefox 5) I can only find how to make sure it DOES remember. I want the opposite. How do I do this?

Tyler: I am still looking for support and so are the other 83 people who have this problem. Hence why I am here, not to have to start another thread, not to have a go at you or just to run around further to get a clear, straight forward answer. I am now back to running Version 12 (which, has not solved the problem), with up-to-date plugins which are all supported.
Don’t fob us off, PLEASE HELP. Unless I am very much mistaken, this is the place we are meant to find help, right? Not to be completely blown off because somebody says something you don’t like. Therefore from the fact I’m still getting the popup every time telling me everything is updated and safe, which is lovely to know, still doesn’t change the fact it won’t go away! Not a major problem but it is getting tedious now every single time.
Like I say I am willing to wait and see if this gets fixed anyway which to be fair, FireFox seem to do a lot better than the competition. If it doesn’t though I’d still rather go back to an older version just to be rid of it! But not even that is now working to be gone of it! It’s gotten that ridiculous for me now too!

How do I disable the plugin check at Firefox startup?

Starting in the last day or two, every time I start Firefox, in addition to my homepage, I get a nuisance tab that is checking my plugins. I need to disable this stupid function or I will have to discontinue using Mozilla Firefox after 20 years as a faithful Mozilla user. I am happy with, and have no intentions of upgrading, my version of Firefox (3.6.17). I also have no intentions of upgrading my Flash plugin as newer versions are incompatible with an online activity in which I engage.
I have followed instructions in the user forum for changing the status of plugins.update.notifyUser from true to false in "about:config", but it apparently resets itself to true. None of the user forum suggestions correct this problem. If this unwanted, stupid tab cannot be disabled, I guess I will have to abandon Mozilla, both for Firefox and Thunderbird, and pursue options that do not force unwanted content on the user.
In addition, it seems impossible to actually speak to anyone at Mozilla about the problem. So hopefully someone will answer this question with a solution to the problem.

I have had this problem too. I tried both methods posted by other users and was unsuccessful. It is so annoying that I will no longer be using Firefox. Goodbye.

since I am using the iGetter to download files from internet and I did integrate iGetter into safari. but sometimes when i download some files the download of safari automatically pop up and start downloading. that's annoying me. can i disable this function.

Some sites are coded by developers in such a way that 3rd party download accelerators such as iGetter or Speed Download are ignored, downloading the file directly through a browser's download mechanism. Those are usually coded as a "forced download" rather than a stream download. I don't know of a particular work-around. Not using iGetter I don't know what its capabilities are (I use Speed Download), however, possibly you might see the download file listed in the Activity Window (Command/Option/A) where you could copy it (Command/C), then paste it into iGetters download window (I know I can do this in SpeedDownload).
In any event, you won't be able to preempt or anticipate the direction the download will go until the process starts.

How to permanently disable the voiceover function?

Please can someone help? I have a 6 month old iphone 4 that seems to go into Voiceover mode by itself ( or at least I cannot figure out what I am doing to make it do that). How can I disable the tracing function in UITextView?

My app has a table. After each row is touched, a text will be showed. Different rows will show different texts by using a changing method to the UITextView object in one View.
The problem is: when I scroll down a text and after I return to the table view and touch another row to show another text, the latter text is scrolled down either.
I don't want this. I want the latter text is starting form the beginning. how can I do this?

UITextView inherits from UIScrollView, therefor you can use the scrollRectToVisible method to reset to the beginning each time the UITextView is displayed.

Why do you want to prevent copy and paste? They can take screen shots of the pdf if they are real insistent? If you password protect your file, to prevent copy and paste, but that is trivial to circumvent. You can convert your pdf to tiff and then re-import, the resulting file will be an image pdf file.The contents will be an image which doesn’t prevent copy and paste, will prevent it being done as text.

I have switched the option in Tools to 'Nothing'..it reverts to 'History..etc' after a restart.
I have gone through the suggested about:config changes..this also seems to revert after a restart from 'false' to 'true'

Windows may be hiding the .js file extension. 
You can check the file type in the properties of a file via the right-click context menu.
Did you try to remove the prefs.js file(s)?

How can I disable the sound entirely in Firefox?

I'm having trouble with my Protools Digi 003 interface which crashes often when a page in Firefox plays a sound (ie Facebook). The ideal solution would be disable sounds entirely in Firefox. How is this done? I've checked the options and there seems to be nothing on this.

It may be helpful if you indicated the EXACT model/year MBP that you have and the OSX.

How can I disable the Facebook Notification in Firefox 6 which takes my focal point from what I am typing until I close the notification in the lower right corner.

When I have Facebook open, I get pop-ups in the lower right corner that tell me that I have new notifications or messages in Facebook. When the little pop-up shows, no matter what I am typing, my cursor is taken away until I click the x to close the pop-up. It is very annoying and slows me down so much. It disables my typing.
If this cannot be resolved, I will either go back to version 5 or uninstall Firefox completely.

I can understand your concern, however Document Cloud is a core part of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and Adobe Acrobat DC so it cannot be disabled. If you don't want to use this feature then you don't need to sign in.
If you really feel that this does not suites your requirement then you can uninstall it & re-install Adobe Reader 11 Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions.
