How do I disable the Firefox 3.6 updater?

My updater cannot complete the updating because it claims that
my computer is running "another version of Firefox" when it
isn't. This message appears and my version of of Firefox will
not start unless the update is completed. The updating process
will then restart with the "another version of Firefox"
reoccuring, without the use of the brower.
I suspect that by disabling the updater I will no longer have
this problem.
What should I do?
Regards, Mike Momich

After more research, I answered my own question. To load all group tabs upon startup, change the value of the following entry in about:config:
browser.sessionstore.restore_hidden_tabs
to true.

Do you still have the shortcuts and only the icons have changed or are those gone as well?
If you are referring to tab or windows that were open and restored automatically when you start Firefox then there has been a problem with the sessionstore.js file.
In that case you can try to restore a previous version of the sessionstore.js file.

  • How do i disable the firefox software updater which pop out whenever i start firefox? I use Firefox 24 and already disabled it through "options"

I already applied the "never Check for updates" option in Options>advanced.
    But it is always asking...

Are you using the Firefox 24.0 Release which is four versions/security updates behind or are you using the Firefox ESR which is based on Firefox 24.0 and currently at 24.'''4'''.0 security update in line with Firefox 28.0 release.
If you are using the Firefox 24.0 release and want to stay on 24.0 then to be up to date security wise you could use the 24.4.0esr instead. The next version ESR will be based on will not be until Firefox 31.0 and the 24 esr will have a couple update then still.

  • I don't want to have to click the allow button every 3 seconds uploading video, how do I disable the "firefox prevented the page from reloading" when I've already put the site on my exceptions list?

I begin uploading video to Facebook and a small window opens to show the progress bar but, the video stops uploading about every 5% when a notification comes from the top bar stating: "Firefox prevented the page from reloading" with an Allow button on the right. Regardless of clicking the allow button and putting Facebook in every exception list Firefox options seems to have or even turning pop up blockers off, that dam button keeps coming! • How do I disable the firefox 6.0 feature in which group tabs all don't load upon startup?

OS is Windows 7 x64. I have defined four tab groups. Only one of them loads when I start Firefox. I understand that this is a new feature in 6.0, but I would like the option to revert to the prior behavior. I looked in about:config, but didn't find anything that seemed to apply.

  • How can I stop the Firefox pop-up update nag?

I uninstalled the awful FF 8.01 and do not want it until it is perfected. I'll decide when I want to update so I have automatic update disabled.
I have pop-ups blocked but can find no way to stop this Firefox message. It doesn't happen every time I login but frequently enough to be annoying..
BTW I went back to FF 7 because FF 8 was slowing loading web pages to snails pace - 2 mins or more to load a page!!

Ah ok that all makes sense. You are correct that would turn off Find my iPhone. Based off the additional info you provided, it seems to me that the password needs to be updated. What I recommend doing next is entering the password when it prompts you to. If the password is incorrect in the settings then Find my iPhone may not be able to find the phone because it does not have the password authenticated.
Then you can turn off any iCloud features you choose not to use with this article and leave only Find my iPhone enabled.

  • How do I reset the "Firefox is being updated by another instance" message?

I was attempting to update Nightly via the "About Nightly" window. I got a message about a failed upgrade and a link to download a fresh copy of Nightly, so I did. I closed Nightly and overwrote my existing copy with the fresh download and reopened.
Ever since then, the "About Nightly" window has a message "Nightly is being updated by another instance" and won't look for updates. Is there any way to reset whatever is tracking this to force my new Nightly instance to update again? I've tried restarting in Safe Mode and I don't use antivirus, so I'm pretty sure this has something to do with overwriting my copy of Nightly before it could mark its update attempt as finished.

You can always follow the Nightly threads in Firefox Builds at mozillaZine forums, a place where many Testers hang out. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=23

  • How do I disable the reload on the back button of Firefox and have it display the cached/prior page version?

  • How do I disable the plugin check at Firefox Version 18 or higher startup?

This thread carries on from a discussion about How do I disable the plugin check at Firefox startup? As clearly Tylerdowner did not like my previous message and so would like me to obviously start a whole new thread to find out what’s going on.
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/938821
Tyler: I am still looking for support and so are the other 83 people who have this problem. Hence why I am here, not to have to start another thread, not to have a go at you or just to run around further to get a clear, straight forward answer. I am now back to running Version 12 (which, has not solved the problem), with up-to-date plugins which are all supported.
Don’t fob us off, PLEASE HELP. Unless I am very much mistaken, this is the place we are meant to find help, right? Not to be completely blown off because somebody says something you don’t like. Perhaps someone better suited to this will help. I’ll follow on from then with MY problem from Tyler’s final comment as it is highly relevant:
Tylerdowner: Rumor Control, if you are running Firefox 18 with up to date plugins, then you are having a different problem than this thread is about. This is for Firefox 3.6 users who have old plugins, not those with updated software.

I should also add this info for all to see clear as part of my question (can be seen in More system details too):
I liked that version, was the first ever FireFox browser I tried and because of it made it my number 1 browser. There have been a heck of a lot from 3.6 to 18 though I think we’d all agree. Progress can and often is messy, but worth it.
Which is fine except mine, a different version, up-to-date plugins – and I’ve still same problem as these guys. It’s exactly the same even for me who has updated: How do we get rid of the Plugin Check Screen every time we start FireFox? I know I am up-to-date – as it tells me every single time!
I agree everyone should be up-to-date with the software and this may very well be the case that solves a lot of people with lower versions – yet I can say I updated from version 12 to the latest 18, spent the time getting half a dozen different updates as it wanted (all of which are supported according to the link you provided) plugins and yet I am still having the same problem as users with 3.6 and older plugins! Went back to version 12.0 and I am getting the problem since installing version 18.
Therefore from the fact I’m still getting the popup every time telling me everything is updated and safe, which is lovely to know, still doesn’t change the fact it won’t go away! Not a major problem but it is getting tedious now every single time.
Like I say I am willing to wait and see if this gets fixed anyway which to be fair, FireFox seem to do a lot better than the competition. If it doesn’t though I’d still rather go back to an older version just to be rid of it! But not even that is now working to be gone of it! It’s gotten that ridiculous for me now too!
    :)

  • How do i disable the open/save image dialog box in firefox? I want to directly save the image file to the drive.

How do i disable the open/save image dialog box in firefox? I want to directly save the image file to the drive without clicking on save option everytime when saving an image. I'm using firefox ver 35.0.1 for windows 7.

Click on the Firefox menu. Then click "Options". Go to "Applications" tab. Search for jpg and png file type. You will find they have "Always ask" action attribute. Change it to "Save file".
Hope it will work fine for you.

  • I downloaded Firefox 5 and discovered it disabled my McAfee SiteAdvisor becauce of incompatability. How do I delete the Firefox 5 and reload my old Firefox 4 so I can reactivate the SiteAdvisor.

I downloaded Firefox 5 and discovered it disabled my McAfee SiteAdvisor because of incompatibility. No compatible version of the SiteAdvisor was found. How do I delete the Firefox-5 and reload my old Firefox-4 so I may reactivate the SiteAdvisor?
    Thank you

McAfee have taken the decision to rewrite the Firefox SiteAdvisor plugin to make it easier to update. This should ensure that Mozilla's fast-release schedule does not cause lengthy delays after future version updates. What it means for Firefox now though is that until the rewrite is complete - and tested - SiteAdvisor is being prevented from loading in Firefox in order to avoid the possibility of software incompatibility.
The SA rewrite is projected to take a few weeks to complete and test; it should be ready by about the third week of July, although the exact date is not being given at this stage. It could be earlier.
In the meantime, users who are concerned about the safety of websites may wish to consider WOT as a temporary substitute. WOT ratings are set by user consensus rather than by automated site testing, so WOT is not a full replacement for SiteAdvisor. It is, however, a good rating tool in its own right (I use both it and SiteAdvisor in all my browsers) and is apparently unaffected by the upgrade to FF5.
There is a discussion about this on the McAfee forums [https://community.mcafee.com/thread/36733?tstart=0 HERE]

  • How do I disable this - "Firefox.app" is an application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?

how do I disable this - “Firefox.app” is an application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?

If you want to open it confirm that you do. You will not be asked that question again after the first time you open it
Unless you are keeping Firefox in the .dmg it was downloaded in.  That is to say, if you obtained Firefox in a .dmg, and you have kept the .dmg mounted, and are launching Firefox from the mounted .dmg, then you will ALWAYS get that warning.   You should copy Firefox from the mounted .dmg to your Applications Folder (or anywhere you prefer), and then eject the mounted .dmg.  Unless you need to install Firefox on another system, you can then delete the .dmg.
