How do I disable the History | Restore Previous Sesssion option. It is a privacy issue.

Hi I have upgraded to firefox 4.
It seems that no matter how I shut down firefox or what security settings I use the options History | Restore Previous Session is always enabled when I restart firefox.
This is the same big button that appears on the default firefox browser home page.
Even if I shut down with only one tab open it still has the option available and that goes back to the single tab.
Clearing history before shutting down firefox does not help.
I found the web page where someone had actually requested this functionality but niether of the pricay settings he suggested to tweak this feature did anything when adjusted.
These were:
browser.sessionstore.privacy_level
browser.sessionstore.privacy_level_deferred
in about:config
How do I get rid of this menu item/'feature' ?
I tried turning on browser.showQuitWarning in about:config as suggested on another site and that givs me the 'do you want to save your session tabs' dialog when I shut firefox like it used to in firefox 3.x. So I was semi happy with this. However this did not stop the Restore previous Session being available even if I selected quit (no dont save tabs option) on the dialog.
I do not want to be able to restore the previous session unless:
a) firefox crashed
or
b) I expressly told it to save my session on shutdown.
I also have the tools | options | general | when firefox starts set to 'show my home page'. So I dont think thats related.

Thanks. Following that link I worked out how to clear the history automatically on shutdown.
Having firefox auto clear my history ensures the 'Restore Presvious Session' is not available next time firefox starts.
However, if I then want to force it to save my session on shut down I cant. I can get the 'Do you want to save your session' dialog, as in firefox 3.6x, by having about:config browser.showQuitWarning set to true. After restarting firfox however my tabs are not restored.

If you want to completley disable session restore about:config
set browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo and browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo to 0
Then Options > General > When Firefox Starts select home or blank tab.
Set browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash to false to stop it restoring after a crash.

I don't want to disable ANY other feature at all (e.g. restoring session after a crash), I only want when I close Firefox and restart it to start new on my home page, without any restored tabs whatsoever. I have tried everything on about:config and it won't seem to do the trick.
This is a big privacy concern and I'm really puzzled why Firefox was programmed this way without an easily accessible option to change it.

hello kayjay76, this sounds like a problem caused by some sort of adware on your pc. please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

Now the Mac won't automatically connect to the network. Genious Bar fixed my Pro, they said that you have to delete all the history, not just the network name. I wasn't at the Genious Bar to see how they did it, now I need to fix the Mac. Appreciate any help!

I have also closed iTunes, reset network settings on the iPad, then shut down and restarted the iPad. Still, I end up with greyed out rectangular icons for all the movies I've ever streamed from my Mac Mini to my ipad via my home wireless router.
Again, I have watched all the way to the end of the movie, selcted the movie in iTunes and chosen "mark as watched", and then deleted it in ITunes.
Any ideas?

When you log out, uncheck the box to reopen applications. If you're still using 10.7.3, then you will have to uncheck the back with each shutdown or restart.
10.7.4 update was suppose to fix it that when you uncheck the box, it should remain unchecked for restarts after that.

How to retain the history of previous burden rates

Hi All
In Projects Is there a way to retain the history of previous burden rates, My client wants to be able to report on burden rate changes.
In Projects in the Burden Schedules, we have the ability to change rates within a Burden Schedule Version (as opposed to creating a new version). I would lilke to know that when we change rates and compile the new rates, that there is a permanent record of the old rates. The table where the inputted rates are stored is PA_IND_COST_MULTIPLIERS and I think compiled rates are storing in PA_COMPILED_MULTIPLIERS.
The question is will the history of previous Burden rates be retained as well, if so would be possible to get the old raw cost and burdened cost values. Please advice me how to proceed.

If the old rates/multipliers were used for costing then you got CDLs on the expenditure items, using those old values. On the CDL you can find the ID of the complied ind rate.
After you update the rate and compile, the next costing process will run and reverse old cdls creating additional cdls with the new rates. So if you look at an expenditure item you can track the multiple CDL's which used the various historic burden rates.
The historic multiplied rates are kept in a table.

How can i disable iMesage history? Under the settings for iMessages on OS X 10.8.4 Mountain Lion, I don't see any options to disable this. The only thing close to that is already unchecked: Save history when conversations are closed.

Messages still uses the com.apple.ichat.plist (and the other ones that had iChat in them for the accounts)
The two new ones for iMessages (com.apple.imservice.imessages.plist and com.apple.imessage.bag.plist) only hold the server info on one and the Apple ID and the Aliases you use with it in the other.
I have not discovered anything in any of the .plists that deal with how the "history' is saved (other than whether Chats are Saved on Closure).
In previous versions of iChat there have been hints at MacOSXHints that do various things such as this one that changes the order of the Info when Selecting iTunes Playing as th Status Message

To use it in Messages you have to change the iChatAgent bits to IMAgent.
I did search their site for 10.8 and Messages but found nothing that related to doing anything with the Saving or History of chats and conversations.

This may seem like a simple question but every time I attempt to access my iCloud account, I get the Welcome screen asking me if I want to activate Find Your device (whatever device I'm using) and if I want to activate Find my Friends (NO) etc. Half the time I don't even know what the correct address is for iPad and get all kinds of other websites and I just give up. Where are you trying to access your iCloud account, and from what device?
If you are trying to access your iCloud account at http://www.icloud.com/ from an iOS device, you can't. The iCloud.com website is not designed to be accessed from iOS devices - access it on your Mac.
Your Time Machine and WD external backups and Carbon Copy backups are nothing to do with iCloud, so I don't know what you think accessing iCloud will achieve in your situation anyay.

Tyler: I am still looking for support and so are the other 83 people who have this problem. Hence why I am here, not to have to start another thread, not to have a go at you or just to run around further to get a clear, straight forward answer. I am now back to running Version 12 (which, has not solved the problem), with up-to-date plugins which are all supported.

I liked that version, was the first ever FireFox browser I tried and because of it made it my number 1 browser. There have been a heck of a lot from 3.6 to 18 though I think we’d all agree. Progress can and often is messy, but worth it.

I agree everyone should be up-to-date with the software and this may very well be the case that solves a lot of people with lower versions – yet I can say I updated from version 12 to the latest 18, spent the time getting half a dozen different updates as it wanted (all of which are supported according to the link you provided) plugins and yet I am still having the same problem as users with 3.6 and older plugins! Went back to version 12.0 and I am getting the problem since installing version 18.
Therefore from the fact I’m still getting the popup every time telling me everything is updated and safe, which is lovely to know, still doesn’t change the fact it won’t go away! Not a major problem but it is getting tedious now every single time.
Like I say I am willing to wait and see if this gets fixed anyway which to be fair, FireFox seem to do a lot better than the competition. If it doesn’t though I’d still rather go back to an older version just to be rid of it! But not even that is now working to be gone of it! It’s gotten that ridiculous for me now too!

If your trying to just simply have it not show while navigating the OS during a call, then there is no option to disable it. If it's a problem where it's continuing to show after you disconnect a call it could be a fault in code that fails to run the script to terminate the banner need upon disconnect. I would restore the phone using itunes as a first troubleshooting step. Another avenue might be an issue with the phone failing to recognize the end of call signal from the carrier. In which case I would have the SIM card changed. Easy thing to do at your local carrier store.
