How do I disable the 'Updates Available' notice?

The 'Updates Available' notice seems to be unkillable. I choose not to update the system software immediately and would like to stop this notice from appearing every two minutes. I can click on it and slide it off screen but soon it pops back. I've checked out system preferences, notification preferences, to no avail. It gets in the way of aliases I have on the desk top and is a contender for the most stubbornly annoying feature of this OS. Any way I can suppress this thing?

  • How do I prevent the "update available" message while I'm watching a program?

My 2011 Mac Mini is connected, via HDMI, to my 46" Samsung HD TV. I buy and rent 1080 movies and TV shows from iTunes. I also play a lot of other files that I've downloaded from other places. It's terrific except for one fly in the ointment...
No matter what I'm watching, iTunes, NetFlix, VLC, Quicktime or straight off the desktop; if there is new software available, I get that annoying message that appears in the upper right hand corner. I can slide it to the right but it comes back a few minutes later. I could stop everything and perform the upgrade 10 to 30 minutes later but is this really the way video on a Mac is supposed to work? I feel there should be a way, at least, to pervent this from happening when I'm watching a program/movie/TV show. If it happens between, fine but why does it always have to pester me when I'm trying to enjoy watching T.V.?
I know there is a way to turn it off, for the day, but come on- There's got to be a better solution than that. My U-Verse box very rarely bugs me about things. OSX and/or iTunes does it ALL the time. Can't it give me a break when I'm watching T.V.?
Hopefully, I just missed some setting but I've tried a few things that didn't work.
This is not a disaster but if someone knows a solution, I would be very grateful!
    Thanks!

    Mende1,
      Thanks for the super-fast response!
I believe I tried this once before but the check box for "Automatically check for updates" always comes back, the next day. However, this might be my best solution for now and I'll test it watching the latest "Ripper Street", in iTunes, tonight. If it lasts the length of the program, I'll have to decide if I want to select "This solved my question" or "This helped me."
I think I expected Apple to be a little more inTune with this. I absolutely love watching programs with my Mac Mini via HDMI. If they could find a consistent way to not interrupt programs, even with "Automatically check for updates" checked, the Mac video experience would be nearly perfect.
I do make sure to perform updates but, between my wife's Mac and my two, plus the fact that updates seem to be occuring on a weekly basis, it's not easy to update immediately. I just feel that if a person is watching a movie or T.V. program, it's very clunky to have the "update available" message continuously appearing.
    Thanks again!
    Teddy

  • How to get away the Update Available Notification?

    Hi everyone,
I have completely updated my OS X Mavericks, but since apple update the iTunes 11 to 12, i don't like the design as it won't match to os x mavericks since it make for yosemite( I update to iTunes 12 once but don't like it and make a clean install to reverse back, can reverse back without clean install?), and there will a Update Available notification keep show up, there is only "Update" and "Later" to choose from but there has no "NO" option since I don't want update my iTunes to 12 version(picture below), is there a way to get rid of the Update Nodification ONLY for iTunes 12 and allow for other application, I don't want to close mac app store update notifications, just want to disable for iTunes 12 update, it's annoying!
    thanks for help!

    You can hide the notification.
    Launch App store.
Click the "Update" tab on the top.
Right click on the specific update and choose "Hide Update".
    To reverse it,
App Store  > Store > Show All Software Updates

  • How do I disable the update/patch notification for 9.4.4

I am unable to install the update 9.4.4 - the error message tells me to re-install Acrobat 9 Pro as there have been changes to the original program. I imagine it is referring to the many updates I have faithfully installed previously. I am not at all confident that uninstalling and reinstalling the program will work, so have decided to take my chances and not install an update. So how can I stop the notifications for Acrobat updates? If anyone can help I will be grateful because these insistent messages are a constant reminder of just how flawed CS5 appears to be.

This screenshot though take from Acrobat X is almost identical to Acrobat 9's.

click highlighted item at very bottom window (you'll have to scroll down to see it).
You'll see the window shown in screenshot.
Choose the item opposite of what I have check The download will not look for update. Nor ask.

  • Is itunes 10.4.1.10 for real? I just got the update availability notice but it opened my browser and went to the itunes download page. Normally it just opens a small list with what is going to be downloaded (us. safari, quicktime, and itunes) and i am abl

(cont.) e to choose what is going to be downloaded. Im just a little suspicious what with the update coming differently than it usually does.

Check this thread out -> iTunes 10.4 & Multimedia Keyboard
It doesn't look like there is a fix yet, but some people in the thread are pointing to this workaround:

Following some suggestion i seem to have found a solution for the problem and my play/pause, next and previous buttons work with iTunes 10.4.1
    - You need to open a text editor (like notepad) as an administrator.
    - Open the SetPoint players.ini file (C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPointP\players.ini)
    - Edit the line under the [Players] section to match the line bellow (bold is the wndClass which is to be changed)
    iTunes=wac,iTunes.exe,ITWindow,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,0,1,iTunes
    - Save the file
    - Restart the SetPoint and hopefully play/pause, next and previous buttons should work (at least they work for me)

  • How do I stop the update banner from annoying me every few minutes?

How do I stop the Updates Available banner from annoying me every few minutes? I have tried to deselect the "Automatically check for updates" box in System Preferences==>Software Update, but it doesn't help.

I prefer to manually check for updates when convenient and install only those that I wish to install at a time of my choosing. Surely Apple wouldn't be so heavy-handed as to make this impossible?

  • I have an older mac and it wants me to update to itunes 10 but my mac is too old and I cant figure out how to disable the update

I have an older mac and it wants me to update to itunes 10 but my mac is too old and I cant figure out how to disable the update so I can use the store.

If Software Update is offering the update then it would be compatible with your model.  Unfortunately, you haven't provided us with any information on your hardware that would enable us to determine if it really is too old.
If you really wish to disable the update alert then the next time Software Update opens, select the update in the list then select "Ignore update" from SU's Update menu.

It is the same installer. You can run it as 30-days trial (CC version) and decide later for CC or stand-alone. To license as stand-alone, follow this guide.
If you already have the LR6 license key, you can enter it during setup and do not need to follow the guide.

  • How can I disable the HP Updates Agent from running?

    HP pavilion D4100Y
Windows XP  SP2 or 3 (not sure)
    No error message
    No recent changes
Problem: The program "Updates from HP Agent" runs frequently and on no particular schedule, certainly not one I chose.  It takes over my computer for hours and uses most of the CPU, fluctuating from 13% to 87% to 1 etc.3% to 6%, etc. The computer hangs and I cannot use it for anything else. On the HP Updates screen, I set the updates to "NEVER" but that didn't work.  The programs still run. On the Windows Task Manager window the program is called "Updates from HP Agent".
I cannot find anything about this problem in the support database.

  • How do I disable the Firefox 3.6 updater?

My updater cannot complete the updating because it claims that
my computer is running "another version of Firefox" when it
isn't. This message appears and my version of of Firefox will
not start unless the update is completed. The updating process
will then restart with the "another version of Firefox"
reoccuring, without the use of the brower.
I suspect that by disabling the updater I will no longer have
    this problem.
    What should I do?

After more research, I answered my own question. To load all group tabs upon startup, change the value of the following entry in about:config:
    browser.sessionstore.restore_hidden_tabs

  • How do I disable the hardware acceleration in Flash player on a Windows XP machine remotely?

How do I disable the hardware acceleration in Flash player on a Windows XP machine remotely?
I have a few hundred computers running Adobe Flash Player.
The operation system is Windows XP.
They are Compaq 6005 desktop PC’s, with an inbuilt ATI radeon HD 4200 video card.
We have a persistent issue where viewing a flash video (e.g. something on youtube) causes the video card driver to crash.  You are left with no video signal to the monitor.  Audio continues and the computer still responds to commands. This only happens when watching flash video.
    We have tried:
    Updating flash plugin (numerous versions)
Updating the video card drivers (we have tried the last three video card driver versions, including the HP drivers and ATI drivers)
Updating the browsers (this problem happens with IE8/9 and Firefox10/11/12)
There seems to be two ways to work round this issue.  One is to disable the video acceleration in the ‘troubleshoot’ section in the advanced part of the display settings area in windows.  The other way is to start a flash video, right click, go to ‘settings’ and untick the box marked ‘Enable Hardware Acceleration’.
Doing either of these things allows the user to view flash videos with no apparent issues.
Is there a way to disable the hardware acceleration in Flash without visiting the PC?  Perhaps an undocumented option in the mms.cfg file? I understand that you can use an option to skip the video card check, and so force hardware acceleration on, can you do the opposite?
    Thanks in advance
    Daniel.

    Hi.
I have had over 200 views, and no suggestions as to how this could be fixed.
I have also posted in the general flash forum, that thread has fewer views.
If I should put this question in a different forum please let me know which one.
If what I am asking is not possible is there a mechanism for escalating this issue or requesting a feature for the next version of flash?
    Thanks.

I just updated to Adobe Reader 11.0.07 on my Mac OS version 10.6.8 and now the video files don't work.  How do I uninstall the update and return to the previous version?

I received a notice from Chris Campbell at Adobe that stated : "....we are aware that Macs created between 2006 and 2008 are currently running into problems using the latest release of Flash Player (version 13)."  My question is will the update of Adobe Reader 11.0.07 cause this problem with Flash Player 13 on my Mac?  Sometimes when I try to view streaming video I get sound but no video.

  • How do I open the updates window in "Adobe Application Manager"?

How do I open the updates window in "Adobe Application Manager"? Or can I or should I....??
I am a brand new Cloud member.  I heard of the Retina update.  Assuming this was where the updates would logically appear I went to the "Adobe Application Manager" app first.  Without closing the "Adobe Application Manager" I opened Photoshop and went to the help menu and selected "Updates..."; a second window opened in the already open "Adobe Application Manager".
    I selected update all.

Now, I closed the "Adobe Application Manager" and opened "Photoshop" again and again selected "Updates..." from the help menu.  The "Adobe Application Manager" opened again with just one window this time and the updates happened correctly.
I was hoping one of the updates would be to the "Adobe Application Manager", I don't think so.
So, If I were you I wouldn't select "Updates..." from an Adobe app unless the "Adobe Application Manager" is closed until they fix it...
Current version: Adobe® Application Manager - Version 7.0.0.128 (7.0.0.128) Note the Two windows in the "Adobe Application Manager" in the attached image.

The updates are currently available by going to Help>Updates within the Application.  Once you invoke the Updater, which is a component of the Adobe Application Manager, it will locate and apply the updates.  It looks like most of your updates have failed to install.  I would recommend you begin by trying to apply the updates that are available on our product update page at http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/ and seeing if you face the same difficulty.
If you continue to experience problems with applying the updates then please review your installation log to determine the cause of the failure.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation log at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html.
