How do I Disable ThinkVantage Password Manager

I have a new Lenovo T400.  ThinkVantage has a password manager that pops up almost continuously when I'm browsing the web and, quite frankly, it's irritating.  How do I disable the password manager?

Hmmmm, as far as I know, the "Password Manager" is installed with the "Client Security Solution". Anyway, if you are using windows XP and you have not uninstalled the "Client Security Solution", you can run it manually as following:
Windows --> Start --> Run --> "C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Client Security Solution\css_user.exe" /startmenu
But there is another option. You can disable Password Manager per-application. For example if you want to disable it for Internet Explorer try this
Password Manager --> Set Preference --> General --> Application Support --> Uncheck the Internet Explorer.
You can turn it off for all applications by disabling available options.

  • Disable ThinkVantage Password Manager

    Hi there,
I'am a new member of this communitty and this is my first thread.
I'am using a T61p running Windows XP and I want to disable the ThinkVantage Password Manager and fingerprint reader but I cant find a way to do this. Hopefully ther is somone here that can explain this.
    Thanks

This is an old thread, but in case others find it (like I did), here is an update:
I had the same problem (ThinkPad X201s, Win 7 32, latest Msft and Lenovo updates).  I made the mistake of trying to use the fingerprint reader with my overly dry hands (gave up after hand cream, hundreds of failures and only a few successes).
I disabled the fingerprint reader in a"Biometric Devices" control panel.  I didn't try other ways, but I did find settings that might disable it in System->Device Manager, and in BIOS.
But once I had tried to use the fingerprint reader, the Password Manager wouldn't go away.
I found a way to turn this thing off by opening C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Client Security Solution, and then running the program called css_pwmgr_toggle.exe
This program appears to do exactly what I wanted (turns off the ThinkVantage Password Manager in the systray/notification area).
Note that this procedure does NOT remove Client Security from the Startup tab in msconfig (a suggestion I've seen in other posts).

  • How Can I Uninstall Thinkvantage Password Manager?

How can I uninstall or disable this without compromising my fingerprint reader?
Failing that, how can I remove an application so Password Manager no longer tries to "help" me with its password?

I've just upgraded to Windows 7, and I've yet to activate the Client Security software, so I can't be specific on what may have changed from Vista.
In the Vista version of Password Manager, I recall there was an "Options" or "preferences" item in the menu bar of the program. Within the options then displayed, it was possible to switch off the manager's recognition of Windows programs' password entry, or for internet browsers' password entry, and maybe one or two other classes of programs. So in your case, switching off recognition of all Windows programs might do it.
Oh, one more thing: I'm pretty sure both Password Manager and the Fingerprint Manager are dependant on the Client Security Solution (CSS) software package installation, since the latter contains the bits and pieces of the framework that connects them all together with the "Trusted Platform Module"  (TPM), the hardware encryption device that's soldered onto the main board of the notebook, as well as the biometric hardware.
Since the CSS has these dependencies (while using the TPM drivers provided in Windows), it's really an all-or-nothing proposition: either you use it, or you switch entirely to another security suite solution vendor such as UPEK, who will use their own security framework, password manager, and fingerprint software.
Windows 7 is significantly more flexible than Vista here: for instance the UPEK security suite uses the "Windows 7 Biometric Device Framework", meaning that any hardware device with drivers for that framework will work "out of the box" with the UPEK security suite, while Vista still depends on manufacturer's device driver kits--e.g. with Vista, the UPEK suite will only support UPEK fingerprint hardware, not the Authentec devices installed on some Thinkpads.

  • Thinkvantage Password Manager - Which Browsers supported?

I am currently using an Edge 15" running Windows 7 (64 bit) and Firefox 3.6.12. I have Thinkvantage Password Manager (3.20.0330.00) installed together with a fingerprint reader.
The password Manager is not opening when I log into web sites to capture the login info because Firefox has disabled the add in associated with it due to compatibility problems.
Can anyone suggest a browser that does work properly with the password manager?. If possible I would like to avoid IE and stick with an earlier version of FF - do any of the earlier versions work?
    What's been your experience?

    Hello guys,
    Here is a patch for Firefox 3.6 : http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-75278
    Works well for me.

  • X200 ThinkVantage Password Manager

Hi. We are in the process of removing Local Administrator priveledges for most of our users. One of our users uses the fingerprint reader and ThinkVantage Password Manager software to control his Windows login and his Lotus Notes login on his X200 tablet.
Since removing his local admin priveledges, the user reports that he can no longer login to Lotus Notes using his fingerprint. He is only presented with the normal Lotus Notes login screen. When attempting to launch the Password Manager by pressing the blue ThinkVantage button above the KB and then selecting Manage, nothing happens. If his local admin rights are restored, he can login to Lotus Notes with his fingerprint, and the Password Manager launches properly.
Does anybody have any tips to get this working without local admin rights? Thanks!

    Hi,
first I would like to make a short explanation on how Fingerprint and CSS (Client security Solution aka Password Manager) are working in this situation:
After you confugred the system and the user swiped his fingers into the FPR applications and sensor, it hase captured also all other metadata, like the user role, name, domain, etc.
In case anything changes, then the application will react accordingly and in your case it will just kind of react, like if it would not recognize the login for Lotus notes.
So here is what I would advice to do:
    - remove all the swiped fingers from the FPR for the user, that you want to change (remove the Admin account) and make the appropriate changes to the system and the account
    - first of all as an Admin enter Fingerprint console and configure it , so that also a non-Admin user can log on and use the Fingerprint:
Settings->User Privileges-> check all the boxes, that are in this tab
    - log on as the affected user
    - swipe the fingers and make sure, that also CSS is configured, as it was previously
    - reboot the machine
This should be enough, to get the metadata corrected and the new, or better say the old user will be able to use the ususal Fingerprint loging without any problem.
Please let me knwo, if you will have any add questions, or will have this situation tested.
    Cheers

  • ThinkVantage Password Manager incompatible with Firefox 7.0.1

I've updated my Firefox to 7.0.1 and have noted the greyed out message within the FFox add-ons that the ThinkVantage Password Manager is incompatible with Firefox 7.0.1   I have search for a fix or patch from Lenovo that address this issue with this version of FFox  but have not found any solutions. Does anyone have an ear to a possible solution? Thanks!

    Hi,
There is a patch for FF support.
     Please check  the link below,
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/Password-Manager-compatibility-issue-with-Fire...
If you are using FF8.0 and it is not working after the patch is installed.
    To the following steps:
Disable password manager extension from FF,
And find the file "tvtpwm_jstypes.xpi" and drag it into FF to reinstall the extension.
This file is usually in folder, "c:\swtools\css83_firefox5_patch"

  • T510 Thinkvantage password manager and hotmail

The thinkvantage password manager seems to recognize passwords in some sites but not others.  Most notably, no matter what I do, it does not seem to recognize hotmail, so no option ever comes up to add the hotmail password to the password manager when I log in to hotmail.
Does anyone know how to make password manager recognize the password field in hotmail?  Is there any way to manually add a website to password manager?  I can seem to find one.

    Hello mate,
Password manager doesn't work with Hotmail. Probably a compatibility problem. You can't do much about that, you can create a scratch pad if your are afraid to forgot your password but that's almost it.

  • Do any versions of FF support the use of Lenovo's ThinkVantage Password Manager s/w and fingerprint scanner?

Lenovo Edge 15" laptop running Windows 7 (64 bit) and using Thinkvantage Password Manager Ver 3.20.0330 and TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor (UPEK).
The password manager is to set to restrict logins to websites to fingerprint but when logging into websites I am not given the option to use the fingerprint reader -(the login info stored in the P/W manager is entered and login takes place). I have seen elsewhere that FF 3.6 has problems supporting this combination and wonder if any earlier versions of FF would be suitable or if FF 4 is likely to support it.
    Any help would be appreciated

    Kent1968
I would recommend, if you have it set, to go to a restore point before you uninstalled the password manager version that did not give you a problem and not use the new version until this bug is resolved.
If the fingerprint light is not showing up, then it is probably not limited to you and I hope Lenovo checks it out.
Too bad the newer version seems to load slowly - I will check it out as well.

  • ThinkVantage Password Manager unable to recognize fingerprint reader

Hi, I have a X220 running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. My ThinkVantage Password Manager version is 3.20.0333.00, and my fingerprint reader driver version is 1.5.0.289 from AuthenTec. My ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software version is 5.9.5 build 7038.
However, when authentication is required for the Password Manager, a Client Security Solution pops up showing "The requested operation requires fingerprint authentication, but the device is not installed. Please make sure the device is connected and retry the operation."
I am also unable to find the "enroll fingerprint" option in my Password Manager.
    Anyone have similar problems? Thanks.

Did this work previously, and it just stopped working?
What version of Client Security Solution is installed?  To use that version of Fingerprint software, it needs to 8.30.0049 (or later)

  • Does ThinkVantage Password Manager work with Firefox 3.6. Earlier versions it would not work.

Last time I installed Firefox it would not load Lenovo ThinkVantage Password Manager as a plug in. Since then I have not used Firefox. I would like to again try Firefox but thought I would ask the question first. Can I use ThinkVantage Password Manager with Firefox 3.6?

Lenovo have released a patch that will make the ThinkVantage Password Manager work with Firefox 3.6 and higher. You can download it from:

I've just installed it and it works perfectly now.

  • Need T420 ThinkVantage Password Manager for Dummies

OK.  I"m an idiot.  How is the password manager supposed to work?  The "help" section says this about making a new entry: When you type in a user name and password for the first time in a particular Web site or Web page that requires this information, Password Manager automatically displays the following prompt: "Would you like to save this Web Site with Password Manager?"
I have created several new user names and passwords at sites since using this new computer, and I have yet to see the Password Manager ask any questions.  What am I missing?

you have to have at leased a windows password set before you can use it for web logins
also in the settings make sure the check box is checked
    your will look different

  • How do i turn off password manager on firefox 18, the option box is ticked but shaded so i can't untick it

I am prompted every time i visit a site that i enter a password on to save it in firefox 18, it's now getting annoying. I have tried to turn it off, but the box in firefox settings is shaded and won't allow me to turn password manager off, i know i can choose "never for this site" in the settings but with just about every site you go to now requires you to sign in it is really getting on my nerves. if this can't be resolved i may reluctantly have to change browser.

Same problem, I want firefox password manager GONE.
