How do I discover what font Firefox is actually using?
Inspect Element does not tell me what font is substituted.

There is a panel for that in the Inspector. On the right side, where you normally see CSS rules, look for the Fonts tab. It should show the actual font being used by the element selected in the HTML "tree" on the left side.
Oops, you posted using Firefox 24. It might not have been in that version yet. Are you waiting to make the leap to Firefox 31 ESR because of... ??
Note that you are a little behind on updates: 24.8.1ESR was released on Sept. 24.

I have a copy of what I did if that's what you mean. And it's funny because it happened again. I was just randomly messaging someone and a picture popped up with the Aa key and the color slide on the right edge . Normally if I hit the pictures my pictures come up small on the bottom of Messenger and then I can send them or do other things. But when it happened yesterday I don't know if I hit a combination of keys or how I did it but I did but a large picture came up that I took of Facebook (both times were pics of f/b) and instead of the normal Airdrop, then Facebook, Messenger, Mail, Twitter and the More button and under that the copy, slideshow, print, etc. I get the Aa and the color thing. Can someone be hacking me. Can it be an error.

There is no way to view a list of authorised computers. You can only tell a computer is authorised from that computer itself, from the store menu in iTunes.

They can provided you remove them from the Exclude list. Normally, Time Machine does not automatically backup external drives.

I have some foreign songs that I am importing into itunes. When a song called "04.公路塵埃北合起." gets imported, it comes up in itunes as "04.§Ω∏Ù π–ÆJ •¶X∞"
Now I don't know a lot about different text encodings, but from what I've read on the forums is that the problem is that the tags that are encoded on the srcfiles are not unicode. I have tried the java application "UnicodeRewriter" recommended elsewhere in the forums, but both the commone Chinese ecodings, viz Big5 GBK etc.
Is there a way to cut a world from (eg a chinese glyph) and somehow find out what text encouding has been used?

Is there a way I could take the original glyph in the file name (which shows up correctly on my desktop) and paste it into some sort of table. That table will then show me how that glyph will look in all different encodings without the correct conversion. So if I can match my "公" to my "§" I'll be able to see what the src encoding is.
I know this is a longshot, but any help appreciated.

i use a smallish SSD as my "C:" drive. it contains Windows and it's files, but I don NOT want to install all my programs on this drive. That is what the 1Terabyte second drive is for.

How do I see what Fonts look like?

I have been using Appleworks for the past 8 years and I am switching over to Pages. I miss the simplicity of the word processing tool bar of Appleworks particularly, the font selector which I was able to quickly see what the fonts looked like. Is there an easy way to replicate this with Pages or do I need to open up the FontBook and just use that?

To see what the font looks like go to Format - Font - show fonts. This gives you the font window. At the bottom left hand corner of the font menu there is a +, - and a flag keys. Click on the flag key and choose 'show preview'. A window comes up above the menu with sample of font chosen.

You just need to monitor your list of cookies before and after visiting the site. Of course, it is probably easiest to delete all cookies before performing the experiment.
Safari > Preferences > Privacy is where you can get access to all stored cookies.
And, yes, the cookie thing is a design decision, not mandatory.

What font is my UXterm using?

I'm using UXterm. This is my .Xresources:

Neither community/terminus-font nor aur/terminus-font-ttf are installed. This is what happens when I look for files named "Terminus" on my system:

The problem is that I'd like to patch the currently used font for Powerline, but don't know which font I'm using. I always thought I was using Terminus, but if you look at the shapes of the lowercase L character, you see that this isn't Terminus:

When I remove the "UXTerm*faceName: Terminus" line from my .Xresources, the font changes and looks like this:
So the line clearly does have an effect. Something else I discovered was that if I ctrl-rightclick in the terminal and remove the checkmark next to "TrueType fonts", the font immediately changes and looks like the last screenshot above.
So apparently adding the "UXTerm*faceName: Terminus" line to .Xresources makes UXterm switch to some true type font which is not Terminus.
Is there a way to find out which true type font is currently loaded in UXterm?

The default TrueType font for xterm and its variants is set to use the font matching the name 'mono'. Check with:
$ fc-match mono
It is most likely DejaVu Sans Mono.
The bitmap fonts selectable from the Unicode Fonts menu are specified in '/usr/share/X11/app-defaults/UXTerm'. "Default" is given as:
*VT100.font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-iso10646-1
Other than the ISO encoding, this is the same font as 'fixed' and '6x13'.

How do i know what app store account was used to install an app on my macbook pro?

Hi All,
For about a year i have been bugged by the app store that i a couple of apps that are not up to date. I have tried to find the account that the app was installed with. I have found three accounts on my name, i logged in with all of them but no luck. How can you figure out under what name an app was installed?

PS: I the maps fiasco was enough to get some people fired, then this should even lead to more job changes :-)

Please try each of the following steps you haven't already taken, until the issue is resolved. After each step, relaunch the App Store and try again.
1. Follow the instructions in the Apple Support article linked below:
Mac App Store: Cannot update App Store purchases or updates do not seem available
2. If any App Store purchases were made under a different Apple ID, or if the bundled iLife applications were accepted under a different ID, sign in to the App Store with that ID to update.
3. Alternatively, delete the probem applications and re-download them with the ID you're using now. If you haven't already purchased them with that ID, you'll have to do that first, because purchases can't be transferred from one account to another.
4. Select the Purchased tab in the App Store window. If you see an item in the list marked "You have 3 apps to accept," click Accept.
5. Triple-click the line below to select it:
/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select Services ▹ Reveal from the contextual menu. A Finder window may open with a file selected. If it does, delete the selected file. You may be prompted for your login password.
Then repeat step 4.
6. Select Store ▹ View My Account from the App Store menu bar, then select View hidden purchases. If you're trying to update any hidden purchases, unhide them.
7. Launch iTunes and select Store ▹ Authorize This Computer from the menu bar.
8. If you've moved any App Store apps out of the applications folder, or into a subfolder, put them back. Never move or copy those applications.
