How do I display a hyperlink in a Spry data set from static xml?

I have a page that should display files available for clients to open and save.  The xml works because all info displays, but I get no link. I've tried putting the <a href></a> tag in, but get an 'undefined' .  The current iteration gives me the title, but no link except in Opera where I still get undefined.  What am I missing here?  Here is the XML line in question:
<doc value="docs/MCB_Landfill_II_75_dwgs.pdf">Dwgs</doc>
This worked in another site, but that used xsd and xml docs rather than the spry dataset. Active link below.

Never Mind.  HTML & XML 101.  I put the <a href> tag in the html doc and not the xml.  I DID have to add an additional line to separate the name from the file name, but who cares.
See ya, ya'll.

    Hi,
    thanks for taking the time to haul through the Code I produced!
    Although the website isn't launched yet, you can have a look at the site on this online "test-site": http://www.media-powerplant.de/media-powerplant-referenzen.html (on the left side you'll find the Spry-master region and on the left-hand side there is the Detail-region which should include the hyperlink)
    Here is the HTML-Code for the site: (the green text is the part with the embedded Spry data set that works and the red line is the part which is not working)

  • How to do something - Spry Data Set?

    Hopefully David Powers is online this afternoon.
    I would like to design a web page so that one record, and one record only, can be pulled from a XML file.  Everything is in place but I am totally confused on how to do what I want to do using Spry.
    The page in question can be viewed here.  By clicking on the "Image Info" button in the navigation bar it opens a sub-window in the browser window displaying another HTML file.  You can view the other HTML file here.  This sub-file uses a Spry Tabbed Panel for ease of display for the end-user.  Each tab is populated with data strings from a XML file.  This XML file contains metadata for a collection of TIF images.
    At present I am copying and pasting the data strings from the XML file into the second (overflow) file.  As the records grow this will become extremely cumbersome and fraught with possible miscues.  I would like the second file to call for a particular record from the XML file and display it.  If the file 001-ovrflw.html is being opened then populate the placeholders with the appropriate record's information (001.tif) from the XML file.
    Can someone show me just how to accomplish this using a Spry data set?  And I am totally confused with Spry so please, be gentle. <grin>  All I need is one sample using my set of data and then I am off and running.  I have to do this for, at present, some 4,000 images.  Each XML file will only contain about 800 records but there will be a XML file for each year.

    If a database is what I need then so be it.  My hosting service allows me 25 databases and I have XAMPP and MySql already installed on my computer.
    So then just how in tarnation do I go about setting up a database and hosting it to my service for use?  And then how do I set up my files to access this database and extract that one record each file needs?  I'm also assuming that I will have to somehow convert my XML file to a database.
    The real shame is that the XML file has a header portion that is the same for each and every record.  This information would have to be copied into each record in the database really ballooning the size — size equates to slower database access.  And then it would take several days to convert the XML file by hand.
    As I hope you can see; I am a total neophyte when it comes to databases.  At least I have read about Spry data sets and was hoping that would serve my needs.  And yeah, I don't want to purchase another book.  I have enough of those laying around without the time to read them all.  Of course such a book would dictate that I read the whole thing to learn how to change a light bulb.  Kind of like a degree in mechanical engineering to flush a toilet.

  • How to use multiple Spry Data Sets in one page

    I'm using two spry data sets in one page. When I add the first spry data set to my page everything runs OK, When I add the second spry data set to the page the first data set stops working. Does anyone know what the problem is?
    This is how I have my data sets listed.
    var ds1 = new Spry.Data.HTMLDataSet("/accounts/tower/list.php", "list");
    var ds2 = new Spry.Data.HTMLDataSet("/accounts/tower/numvisits.php", "chart");
    Thanks, let me know if you need more information.

    Good News!
    There is nothing wrong with what you have shown.
    Bad news!
    The problem could be in that part that you have not shown.

  • Spry data set not displaying in IE8

    Hi,
    I have inserted a spry data set based on an HTML table onto my page. The data displays in live view and in Safari, but when I try to preview in IE8 I get nothing. Here's the page:
    http://www.emiliocorsetti.com/publish/maps.html
    Any ideas? I didn't modify the CSS one iota.

    Ben,
    Not sure what happened there. I was changing and deleting the spry data set so many times that I must have put the file up after I had deleted it. In any case, I put the correct file up. And a funny thing happened. The page works online but it won't work in browser preview. Any ideas?

  • How do you set up Paged View with Spry Data Sets

    Hope someone can help. I have constructed a Spry data set using a html table and want  to use the paged view javascript to limit the amount of rows displayed on one page at a time to 10 then forcing a new page. Have found the java script file in the spry 1.6 download and attached it to the spry assets folder and have followed the instructions found at the Adobe development center   http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/articles/pager/index.html        with no luck. Have attached  files to show what I have done. If someone could look at this and point out my error or suggest a better way I would be grateful. I am not a code warrior so simple  instructions would be so helpful. Many thanks in advance.

    Your region needs to refer to the pageview, not the dataset.  Your paged view var is already looking at/pulling in the ds.
    I would change the following code:
    <div spry:detailregion="ds1" class="DetailContainer">
         <div class="DetailColumn">{Name}</div>
        <div class="DetailColumn">{Product}</div>
        <div class="DetailColumn">{Contact}</div>
        <div class="DetailColumn">{Phone}</div>
      </div>
    to read the following:
    <div spry:region="pv1">
    <table>
    <tr spry:repeat="pv1">
    <td>{Name}</td>
    <td>{Product}</td>
    <td>{Contact}</td>
    <td>{Phone}</td>
    </tr>
    </table>

    Hi all,

    How can we do this?

  • How to make a data set from this???

    Hi all,
    I have to read an XML file and then display each item on my
    page.
    Now, I have no problems doing this with simple, one level XML
    files like an RSS file for example. But the XML I have to read is a
    little different to what I am used to:
    quote:
    <SearchResult CartNumber="A418 " CartType="M"
    StartTime="2008-06-11T14:44:29.323"
    EndTime="2008-06-11T14:47:46.15" CartComplete="true" StaticText=""
    NextPlayTime="0001-01-01T00:00:00"
    GUID="e76df096-139e-4270-a5dc-4a2cf0cddf16">
    <CustomProperties>
    <CustomProperty PropertyName="iTunesLink"
    PropertyValue="" />
    <CustomProperty PropertyName="SongHookLink"
    PropertyValue="" />
    <CustomProperty PropertyName="RingToneLink"
    PropertyValue="" />
    <CustomProperty PropertyName="AlbumArtLink"
    PropertyValue="Stranger In Town Album - Bob Seger.jpg" />
    <CustomProperty PropertyName="TicketLink"
    PropertyValue="" />
    <CustomProperty PropertyName="SongLyricPhrases"
    PropertyValue="" />
    </CustomProperties>
    <MusicData CartNumber="A418" Title="STILL THE SAME"
    Artist="BOB SEGER" Length="3:11.0" LengthSeconds="191"
    CategoryName="Exile" CategoryCode="X" Note1="." Note2="." />
    </SearchResult>
    You can see it has multiple levels for each search result.
    Can someone help me work out how I would display the results
    on a page, repeating. (There will be 5 of these 'SearchResult'
    items.
    Again, I am fine with single level XML.. but as you can see..
    this one has Custom properties which is a level deep, then all the
    MusicData in one bit..
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
    I'm beggining to understand a bit better what it is you want
    to display, and I realize you're still a bit confused as to what
    Spry actually does to the XML.
    If you call {data::@iTunesLink} on the HTML, according to the
    definition of the "data" dataset, Spry will lookup an attribute
    name iTunesLink on the following XPath:
    "SearchResults/SearchResult/CustomProperties/CustomProperty". The
    problem is, that attribute does not exist on your XML.
    Valid calls would include {data::@PropertyName} and
    {data::@PropertyValue} and would yield, respectively, "iTunesLink"
    and "
    http://bigpondmusic.com/Album/Snow-Patrol/Eyes-Open.aspx?search=2304296&h=30081101"
    as an example first result (considering there is no "repeat" set).
    Does that make sense to you?
    If I've interpreted your XML correctly, I think you are
    making an assumption that Spry understands that PropertyName and
    PropertyValue are related. It does not make that assumption, and it
    shouldn't - they are completely different things in your XML, they
    just happen to be attributes for the same tag ("CustomProperty").
    Why don't you try to trim down your XML to something more
    straightforward like this:
    <CustomProperties>
    <iTunesLink value="
    http://bigpondmusic.com/Album/Snow-Patrol/Eyes-Open.aspx?search=2304296&h=30081101"
    />
    <SongHookLink value="" />
    <RingToneLink value="" />
    <AlbumArtLink value="Eyes Open Album - Snow Patrol.jpg"
    />
    <TicketLink value="" />
    <SongLyricPhrases value="" />
    </CustomProperties>
    Then use subpaths instead of NestedXML (better for your kind
    of XML), and call the attributes like this (placeholder >>
    yield):
    {iTunesLink/@value} >>
    http://bigpondmusic.com/Album/Snow-Patrol/Eyes-Open.aspx?search=2304296&h=30081101
    {SongHookLink/@value} >> yields blank
    {RingToneLink/@value} >> yields blank
    {AlbumArtLink/@value} >> Eyes Open Album - Snow
    Patrol.jpg
    You get the picture...
    Unless there is a reason to use that particular structure on
    the XML, I recommend you streamline it...
    Give it a shot and then come back again when you hit the next
    obstacle.
    Regards,
    Tomas

  • How to save an n-ary tree of nodes to and from an xml file

    Hello,
    I am trying to represent a n-ary tree of nodes in xml.
    More accurately, I am trying to save/instantiate a
    tree of nodes to-from an xml file.
    How do I represent the parent-child relationships?
    Java: (simplified)
    class Node {
    Arraylist childNodes;
    Node parent;
    XML:
    From what I have been learning about XML,
    DTD:
    <?xml version="1.0" ?>
    <!DOCTYPE acd
         <!ELEMENT Node (childNodes, parent)>
         <!ATTLIST Node id ID #REQUIRED>
         <!ELEMENT childNodes (Node*)>
         <!ELEMENT parent (Node?)>
    ]>
    Qs:
    1) How do I represent the relationships? What would
    normally be a reference in Java, how do I represent in
    XML?
    2) Do I use ID, IDREF? I have been trying to find some
    examples to learn how. i.e. Does the IDREF, ID
    automatically become an in-memory reference (or pointer)?
    3) Is it preferable to use XML schema?
    thanks,
    Anil Philip
    Olathe, KS
    for good news go to
    http://members.tripod.com/goodnewsforyou/goodnews.html

    I downloaded XML Spy and used it to correct my earlier schema.
    Qs:
    In the instance document xml file;
    1) How would one display the parent node?
    2) If a child has a reference to a parent node as in the schema below, how can one know that the references are the same?
    i.e. when the parent node is first declared and when it is referred to by the child.
    Perhaps this raises a larger question - how does XML handle recursive references?

  • How to get email thru WiFi without a Bb Data Plan from Provider

    Can a blackberry Torch 9800 be configured to connect to mail servers online and download email via wifi instead of getting it through the cellular connection. I am travelling and have SIM and WiFI but no Blackberry data plan from provider. So I want to use wifi to receive and send email.
    Can this be done and how?
    Thanks!

    You both are correct.
    You must have the BlackBerry data plan on your home account.
    When you travel, you will roam on other mobile providers. Turn your wifi on when at a hotspot, and mobiile network > data services on. When off of wifi, ueen your data services off not to consume expensive roaming data.

  • How can I reference a dtd in the Web-Inf directory from an xml file?

    Hi,
    I've placed my test.xml and test.dtd files in the following
    direcory (part of my web application)
    weblogic\config\MyDomain\applications\sample\Web-inf
    When I refer to the dtd from the xml file, as follows,
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>
    <!DOCTYPE application SYSTEM "test.dtd">
    Weblogic tries to look for the dtd in the weblogic directory(the
    place where I started the server from). How can I get it to read
    the dtd in the Web-inf directory?
    I'm using Weblogic6.0 SP1 on Windows NT 4.0
    Thanks.

    Two options:
    1) Use SYSTEM "http://localhost:7001/sample/test.dtd"
    2) Or use XML registry in WLS6.0

  • IE doesn't display part of spry data set!?!?

    Hi there,
    I hope somebody can help me out with a problem I got with the spry dataset I use on my website. -> http://media-powerplant.de/media-powerplant-referenzen.html
    The thing is that the IE doesn't display text in the "master" region. There are no problems with the Details region, and pictures are also diplayed in the master, but strangely enough no text! :-(
    When i visit the site with firefox or any other browser the text gets displayed. I have no idea what the problem is, but this is really bothering me.
    I hope that somebody is kind enough to help me out here. Big thanks in advance! :-)
    Here is the HTML-code of the site: (the red highlighted lines are those which doesn't get diplayed)
