How do i dissable a Windows XP user acount from accessing games online?
I'm trying to create a study user for my brother. I want to disable games so he just doesn't play online. I created a whole new Windows XP account and disabled as much games possible on the computer.
Try posting in the Boot Camp Forum and the Windows Compatibility Forum. The users over there should be able to help you keep your window enviroment clean & healthy.

Windows XP users can't access SMB/CIFS shares on MAC OSX10.4.4 Xserve bug?
The Xserves are new for us. This problem involves two of the 10.4 xerserves.
1 serves as an Open Directory System Master(10.4.3). 2 Serves as a file share & backup (10.4.4).
Both are production machines and cannot easily be restarted.
There is no Windows network, Active Directory or Windows domain in our network.
We created a SMB and AFP share on the file server which is a member of the Open Directory. (It is bound and kerberized to server 1).
The users all have accounts in the OD system and all passwords are Open Directory. Our users can ssh into the various xserves (including the file share server 2) and authenticate against OD.
We made the shares available via smb under Protocols --> Windows File Settings. We turned the Windows Service on in Server Admin. I'ts a standalone server and all the authentication types are checked under access.
The MAC (powerbook) users can access the share fine. The Windows users can't. The Windows laptops can see the file share server (through search - not visable is Network Neighborhood) but when they try and connect they are presented by an authentication box that just keeps cycling over and over regardless of what the user types as user name & passwd.
I tried to access the smb share with my powerbook(10.4.4) and have the same issue. I'm presented with an authentication box but authentication fails.

I've googled this error and it seems that there a lot of engineers out there with the same problem but no answers. Could this be a bug with Apple's SMB process? Is there something I've missed? (I've looked at the smb.conf and have even turned off deny clear text passwords - I've even tried granting guest access) Anyone have any ideas?On the server itself, run the following in the Terminal:
(from a few different sources):
run ps -auxw | grep Password
to see if Password service is running
Also check the logs in /Library/Logs/PasswordService
Try: id username
and see if you get some info returned.
Ex: id jimguy
You should get some info about uid, gid, groups.
sudo killall -USR1 DirectoryService
Then try to login from a client machine.
Be sure to re-issue
sudo killall -USR1 DirectoryService
in order to stop the (far more) verbose logging.
Then check the logs in /Library/Logs/DirectoryService
In Open Directory, you might want to revert to standalone (this will destory the existing OD setup) and then re-promote to OD Master. You'll lose all OD users however when doing so. If you don't have many, this may be best.
You'll want to verify the hostname, and forward & reverse DNS lookups before re-promoting, and watch for any errors when promoting to OD master
See, when you say "The real clue is that I'm unable to access the shares from my Powerbook G4 with my Open Directory account. I can log in to the file share as the local admin though and that's why I'm thinking there is a bug in the samba/OD relationship. " - that's the real clue indeed.
The local admin account, the first admin account you setup on the server, is indeed local, and resides in NetInfo, not Open Directory.
So something is afoul in your OD. -
Running Mavericks on a 2013 iMac 21.5". I want to set up a second user account with different settings that meet the requirements of specific software. I need the files to be accessible by both users. I have made both the main and secondary accounts administrators. I have also enabled file sharing for both. Neither account can see the other's files in Finder.
How can I make all files accessible to both accounts? I read that administrator accounts automatically can see all files on the computer, but it is not working out that way. How to get record created and modified user name from SharePoint Database?

My SharePoint Portal is in Window Authentication. Some users have added requests to Lists. I want to find user name of the Created By and Modified By.
Only ID is available in the corresponding columns in Content Database table. In which table the users details would store in Content Database.

Poomani Sankaranhi, you can find the user details inside UserInfo Table in content database. But i would suggest not to directly query the content databse not even for select as it will affect the indexes.

Saving an image into Azure Mobile Services doesn't scale very well and it's not recommended. It's recommended to use Azure Blob Storage for blob storage. It's cheaper and can store larger files.
You can definitely use both Azure Mobile Services and Blob Storage together by saving the name of the image in your Mobile Services table and storing the actual file in the Blob storage. This way when you need to retrieve the actual image, you would retrieve
it by it's name from Blob storage.

How to display all site collections to users for site access
Currently when our users clients/internal log in, they are directed to a site directory. The site directory only displays sites that the users have access too. Which is great because I don't want our clients to see our entire client list.
Currently we have one site collection with 700+ sites.
We are changing the architecture of our SharePoint environment to create a new site collection for each client. So, we may have 700+ site collections in one web application.
My question is, how can I display all site collections to our user for access, similar to a site directory?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,This is not possible OOTB. your requirement is get the list of all site collections on root site then security trim( which means user can see only the sites where they have permission.)
I think this required alot of effort(developing a solutions and checking the permission on all sites). Issue is you have more than 700 sites collections and tons of user for each site collections and also 700+ clients.
May be think about creating a list and fill that with all site collections(using script). then trim configure the item level permission( but lot of work).
if you have user profile services then may be check about the memberships feature.

How do I bring a window to the front from a different VM ?
The problem I am facing is as follows:
We have an application the loads a plugin which the starts another VM. This VM has some UI components as does the initial VM. I need to be able to bring a window from either VM to the front. It appears that Windows 2000 doesn't allows this.
Any ideas ???

How to keep default Finder window size and location from Mac server
Working in an office of three people. Mac mini server (not sure of the OS; I think it's Snow Leopard). We each use iMacs with Mavericks. I have my default new Finder window set to open "customers" folder, which resides on the server, in a specific orientation. If either of my co-workers opens "customers" and resizes that window on their machines, it retains that size & location when I open it again on my machine (as I'm sure it does to them after I "fix" my own window).
Is there any way to change this so that one's own machine will remember the window prefs? I mean, we're not opening on the server itself, so in my mind it should not retain the last open position, right?
I know I could set my default folder to Home, then go to customers from the sidebar, but that almost defeats the purpose of the default folder.

This happens all the time with our server at work. The server window never opens in the same place twice, and it can be annoying.
There are third-party window management tools out there, but what I did was use a macro program called Keyboard Maestro (since I already owned it).
Among the many things Keyboard Maestro can do is manipulate a window. I created a macro that moves it to a specific point (in my case, the upper left corner of the screen) and then resizes it to a specific width and height in pixels. I then assigned the macro a keyboard shortcut.
Now, when I mount the server, I can use the keyboard shortcut and the window is right where I want it.
There are other programs that just move windows, and I tried a couple. But Keyboard Maestro is more elegant in my opinion, and it does a whole lot more if you choose to go that route.

Not able to restrict user groups from accessing certain entities
We have created user groups and are trying to give them restricted access to certain entities so that they can perform consolidations only for those entities. But even after creating Security Classes (and assigning them to the entities in the metadata) and assigning [Default] security class access as Read Only, the users are still able to access and consolidate all the entities using process control.
Can anyone please let me know how to restrict consolidation to only certain entities?To solve this you need the following information:
-- What roles do the users have? Anyone with the Administrator role has full access to all classes.
-- Examine the groups. If any users are members of a group which has more access than the users have as individuals, they get the greater access level. You can generate a report which shows all roles for all users including the derived roles.
-- Examine your metadata. Do the entities in question have the classes you intend? If you omit a class (the field has been left blank), HFM treats it like the [Default] class.
With this information we could help you troubleshoot the issue.

Prevent users from accessing Exchange online from non ActiveSync Device

We recently switched from an on-prem Exchange to Exchange online. Previously, the only three ways of accessing our email was VPN, ActiveSync and webmail. However, it now appears that any user can use any device that accepts an Exchange email account and
start getting their emails. I understand this is the idea of cloud email, but as a HIPAA organization, this presents a serious security risk. My question is this-how can I track how users access email? I know I can limit things based on IP(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh526961(v=ws.10).aspx),
but then it would work if they had a VPN connection and we allow certain users to access our servers using their home PC if they use a VPN connection. But now they do not need that.

using Office 365 / Exchange Online you are able to limit access to the Mailbox to OWA and ActiveSync only.
1. Please logon as an Administrator to the Office365 Admin Center and choose "Users" -> "Active Users".
2. Now click on your user and view the users properties. Choose more from the menu on the left.
3. Now choose "Edit Exchange Settings", and choose "Mailbox functions" on the left.
Now you find some Settings how to access to your mailbox. Disable POP3, IMAP, MAPI, .... so you can get the desired result. On that page you can also check for connected devices via ActiveSync.
You may also use the set-casmailbox to do the same
