How do I divide a long song file?

I have two sound files in my iTunes library which are each about 2 hours in length. If I want to burn them onto an audio CD they obviously are too large for one disc. If I attempt to burn them onto a CD in normal CD audio format, will the beginning of the file (I would guess the first 80 minutes) be burned onto the first disc and then will the remainder (about 40 minutes) be burned onto a second disc which I will be prompted to place into the drive or do I have to split the files myself before attempting any burning? How do I divide these lengthy files if that is what I will have to do?

Thanks NikkiG. The playlist will contain only one track - a 2 hour operetta with no breaks i.e a single 2 hour track. In other words, it will be a playlist containing only one file (song). I assume from your comments that this one file will be split automatically onto two discs when I burn unlike a more normal situation in which a playlist contains a number of items (songs) some of which are burned onto the first disc until it is full and the remainder onto a second disc.

  • How do I divide a long recording?Hope that I am in the correct forum. Next

Hope that I am finally in the correct forum - I've tried ITunes and another Garage Band (wrong one I guess) . Next week I plan to record a 12 hour radio program featuring Xmas music from around the world. This music is virtually unavailable on any recordings as much of it is live performance. The program will be saved into my iTunes library as a single file. Is there any way in which I will be able to divide this 12 hour file (include, delete songs) so that I can save individual songs which I wish to keep? I posted this on the iTunes forum and I was advised to use Garage Band however, I have never used this program and just found out that I had it installed on my HD when I bought my iMac two years ago (version 3.0.4). In other words, I am clueless about Garage Band. I would really appreciate clear, step by step instructions on how to divide this 12 hour file.

A 12 hour recording is really to long for GB3 to handle. Follow the link to the audio editors that HangTime gave you! There's a free one (Audacity) and shareware programs that will do exactly what you want. Or get QuickTime Pro, you can copy and paste sections of an audio file in the QuickTime Player too.

Thanks. I just checked and found Garage Band on my computer. I did buy my iMac from an Apple Dealer so it must have been included when I bought this machine 2 years ago. However, I am absolutely clueless as to how to use it and didn't even know it was on my HD. Any specific, clear, step by step instructions on how I divide this 12 hour recording using Garage Band would be much appreciated or do I need to go to another forum?

  • How do I divide thousands of songs currently in a single iTunes account into 2 separate iTunes accounts?

When my daughter was small, I set up a single iTunes account that we both could use. Now, years later, she has amassed thousands of songs and apps that I have no interest in. Is there a way to set up a separate iTunes account for her and move her music, videos, etc to that account and delete them from my existing iTunes account?

Some related discussion at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1965166?start=0&tstart=0  Note that this starts in year 2009 when much music required authorization to play.  This no longer applies to new music or old music upgraded to iTunes Plus.  It still applies to video.
I am no itunes account expert but I do not think it is possible to transfer file ownership between accounts.

  • How do I divide a long h.264 .mp4 into smaller movies?

I have 2.5 hrs of .mp4 movie in h.264 format that I would like to divide into 1/2 hr units.
    1. I find it very difficult to get my crops accurate in QT.
    2. When I save it it saves a .mov, just changing the file type to .mp4 in Finder renders it unreadable
    3. Exporting to mpeg4, which I presume will create an .mp4 file, takes forever
There has to be a better way surely.
    Can anyone help? Much appreciated.

Use the Movie Inspector window and some keyboard shortcuts to get accurate "cuts". The left/right arrow keys move one frame at a time. Hold down the Shift key as you tap the arrow keys to expand or reduce your selection. Letter i and o keys set in and out points to make a selection.
Once you have your selection use Command-C (copy), open a new (empty) Player window and Command-V (paste). Save As to make a new file.
Switch back to your longer file. If you no longer need your current selection simply hit the delete key. Repeat the steps above until your made all your "parts".
When you get to your final selection and just Save As to make a new file. Close the older window and make sure not to save "changes" when you close the window. This will leave your original file untouched by these edits.
These new files will be identical to your source but will be in a .mov container. No need to edit the file extension or export again.

  • How do you get a corrupted song file from iTunes to be fixed by them so I can download the song?

I have tried to download a song several times and everytime I do I get a message saying that the file is corrupted.  Since, you cannot seem to report anything to Apple or iTunes, has anyone else had this problem and have you successfully resolved it?

  • HELP! how do i remove old duplicate song files now iv moved my music?

I moved all my music from various folders into pretty much one place on my other hard drive to help clear some space. When i then re-added the folders to my library, I am left with apparently 2 versions of every song, but one version I assume is trying to access the file from the old location as it asks if i want to find the file manually becuase itunes can't find it. Is there any way at all to get rid of all of these files that don't contain songs, that doesn't involve clicking through every single song of my many thousands manually? It's making my life a misery even thikning about it.

Try ordering your songs by date added. The ones you just added will be at the top (or the bottom) - then you've just got to find where the newly added list stops and the old tracks begin and select all the tracks from then onwards. Sorted.
    Hope that helps.

  • How do I navigate a long song quickly?...markers?

Hey there...I'm new to logic express. Just trying to find ways to work quickly.
I understand that logic pro has markers but xpress doesnt...I assume they are used to set up sections for quick navigation.
Can someone tell me the best way to navigate a long composition in logic express?
Is there some way to create sections like intro.verse1.chorus1 and jump quickly from one to the other.
I find it strange that Logic only has 2 sets of locators. It would make sense to me to have as many sets of locators as I want to create and simply have a key command to to jump to any particular set I choose.
    Any help would be appreciated.

The original LE 7 didn't have marker capability IIRC.
logic express 7.1.1 does have markers, and you can name the markers. You can shrink the width of the tracks screen to get a comprehensive view of your piece and click to the marker you want quickly.
If you're on 7.2, I can't address it because I don't have my copy yet. Hopefully they didn't remove the markers again....

  • How DELETE song file...won't allow me!?

Imported songs from my husband's iPod into my pc. Cannot delete songs! Info is greyed out (cannot edit, etc). Says it might be write-protected. Used Windows Explorer and directly deleted file, but now there's an exclamation point next to file in iTunes. How do I COMPLETELY delete these song files!?

There was a recent iTunes bug that prevented deleting. For now, just leave it in your library with the exclamation point. Next time you restart Windows, try again to delete it and it just may work. It did for me.

  • Trouble with Long Song in Logic

Has anybody ever run into this:
I have to record a real estate book on tape type deal, total of 2-3 hours, each song is set to tempo of 60 so I get more time. There are a total of about 200 takes, 2 tracks.
Here's the problem: when I close out the song and then load it back in, logic tells me that 37 files aren't referenced and when looking at the files they are blank!
After about a week of loading that same song up, the number of ref'd files goes down and then all of the files load up properly. ?????????
I am recording to a SATA drive on the G5 and I tried correcting permissions and even loading the project manager to see if that helps. It only happens when I'm doing a particularly long song file.
    Any thoughts?

  • Exporting 7.2 song files

does anybody know how to export logic 7.2 song files to logic 4.8 or equivalent. read manual but that option doesnt appear in my > file > export menu.
    G5 2.0 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I don't think there is a "Direct" way anymore. In version 6, there was an "Export as 4.8" option, but that has been removed. If you, or someone you know, has version 6 still active on their system, you could perhaps get the song back to version 6, and then go from there.
Keep in mind the differences between version 7 and version 4 are quite significant, so it's possible that option was eliminated simply because they aren't even close to compatible anymore. For starters, the OS's are different. version 4 was OS 9 only, and version 7 is OSX only.
Another option, would be to "Export All Tracks As Audio" from version 7, and then simply import all the audio files into 4.8. Or if it's MIDI only, perhaps Exporting as a MIDI file would work, at least as far as getting the MIDI information transfered.

  • How do I fix broken song files in iTunes with songs transferred from my iPod to my computer?

Recently got a new computer but when I tried to transfer the files in My Music>iTunes to my new computer I realized that only about half the songs in my library have folders in the iTunes folder, even purchased songs (no idea why). I could download mp3s of every broken song and re-do it that way, but I would rather figure out a way to restore the files from my iPod and save a lot of time.
I enabled disk use on my iPod and dragged the folders from iPod_control>Music to a folder on my desktop but the songs are all assigned random four letter names. I don't know if iTunes will be able to detect the right file to restore each song if I just direct it to this folder (using the prompt when you try to play the song), not to mention that the random songs are broken up into 49 separate folders so I would just have to randomly guess which folder to direct it to (I have 1993 songs). If I drag all the files into iTunes will it just create doubles of each song? I don't care about play counts, I don't know if that's stored in the song file, but it's not a big deal for me to replace all the songs in iTunes with the files from my iPod as long as all the files work.

Thank you so much! I now know how to convert AIFF audio files to ACC files, and I can keep the original AIFF file! One other concern though -- how do I tell which is the bigger AIFF file and which is the new smaller ACC file? iTunes doesn't have an obvious place/window that tells me the audio file size. Is there a way to tell the two apart. It looks like it creates an identical file name, not even a "copy" extension or anything -- so it's impossible to tell them apart. Is there another secret here?

  • How can I use a downloaded song as an alarm on my timer? Not a ringtone, a song. It is only 30 sec. long.

How can I use a downloaded song as an alarm on my timer? Not a ringtone, a song. It is only 30 sec. long.

This is not particularly helpful. I've looked on 3 websites and none of them match my configuration of iTunes. I've gotten as far as creating an AAC file and that is it. Can't find the .m4s designation to change it.

  • How come some of my itunes songs have a "check mark" and ones that do not say the file cannot be found.

How come some of my ITunes songs have a check mark next to them and the songs that do not have it, I receive a error message " the file could not be found"  The songs are on my Ipod and Ipad2.  Is my itunes library screwed up?  Can someone tell me how to clean up my library?

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.
