How do I do a complete restore of my Mail from TM?

If my Mail database is corrupt and Rebuild does not help or I can't start Mail because of the corruption, how do I restore the entire Mail database from a Time Machine backup?

I asked this question because I was about to upgrade to Yosemite and wanted to be prepared for this.  (The Yosemite upgrade worked flawlessly.)
During the Mavericks upgrade, a rash of people
in the Support Community complained that
when they upgraded,  OS X corrupted their Mail database.
No one in the community, including the Apple experts watching,
found a solution for this.
Multiple people lost all of their Mail.
Restoring V2 did not work because OS X had not converted it
into Mavericks format
I think this is the  secret handshake:
Delete or move V2 and its associated Preferences.
(Are there other hidden Mail files?)
One should see no On My Mac Mail
and Mail should download all the Mail stored in the cloud.
Enter Time Machine.
Restore each On My Mac mailbox, one by one.
Recreate the mail-accounts.
Any other actions needed?
What about the folders from com.apple.Mail.Backup down to Import?
Will Drafts, Sent, Junk, Trash, and Archive be reloaded from the cloud?
If not restore these.
I do not plan to attempt this procedure.
I just worked it out in case the Yosemite upgrade corrupted my Mail.
I'll sleep better at night knowing I probably can restore my Mail.

  • How do I perform a complete restore to Mac using Time Machine

I need to restore my MBP (10.8) from Time Machine backup.  Problem is, when I attempt to perform a full restore it says the last full backup available is a month ago.
How can I recover all the changes since my last full backup?
I've reestored the last full backup, but I've now "lost" all changes made since the last full backup.  I can open Time Machine and view or restore individual files, but that's tedious and error prone (bound to miss a few).
How can I perform a FULL restore.  ie. Back to the last backup (the full backup from a month ago), and then recover all changes made up until the last "incremental" backup - which only included the changes?
Alternatively, how can I identify all changes from last FULL backup to the last "incremental".

Insert its first original DVD, restart with the Option key held down, click on it, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install a new OS.

How long should it take to restore new 4s iPhone backup from iCloud?

That depends mostly on your Internet connection download speed, and how much data you have on the phone. It could take anything from a few minutes to several days. There is no "one size fits all" answer.

  • Restore Archived Lion Mail from Time Machine

I deleted a mailbox, thinking I could add it back, and synch with the server.  That worked fine, but I forgot that I had archived a whole bunch of mail on that account.   Now I want to retrieve the old mail.  I have a fresh Time Machine backup.  How do I retrieve my archived mail from Time Machine for a deleted account?

If Time Machine was backing up before you deleted the account, you can try to enter Time Machine from
~/Library/Mail.  See if the deleted account is in there.

  • How do I set up my Ipad to receive mail from Verizon?

I just bought an Ipad 2 with Verizon.  I cannot receive mail through the Ipad, only through Verizon.net.  How can I set it up to get my mail?

No. You made it sound like you were not able to do it and that is what I was asking, look here for help. This shows you the steps for Verizon email on the iPad.

If you set up like this it should be fine. Then all you have to do is launch the mail app in order to send and receive email.

  • How can I restore saved e-mail from time machine in 10.7.2?

My saved e-mails just vanished. I have dire need to restore them. They contain vital information. Where are they in Time Machine and exactly how can I restore them? Thanks in advance for any help.
    Jim

    Hi James,
    sorry for my delay.
You mean that you found the folders in your Library/Mail/etc...  ??
Strange that you have the messages there and not in your Mail program. It is clear a matter of a database corrupted.  Inside Mail there is a command Rebuild. this should do the job but there is a risk of a demage to the present Mail.  Of course you can explore each single file in the librari folder but you see they are down in a comples structure and you may not find everithing.
I am not so expert to give you a safe suggetion.
Before tryoing a rebuilt I would do as follows to be more safe about the possible result.
Create a new user Account in your Mac and copy your complete Mail folder into the Library of the new account.
Then try the rebuild option in the new user account and see what happens. You today mail system will not be affected and you can decide what to do.
To postpone a rebuilt can be an option but if you have a demaged database and you se you can live with the result of a rebuild in the "test" account I would rebuild also your.
For some reason before doing any action I wouyld repair the permission and also check the HD to be sure you do not have any write-read problem.
Let me know if it works.

  • How do I remove/erase completely the store Apple ID from my computer?

I recently bought a used MAC w/OSX Mavericks downloaded into it and I just got an update for 3 apps.  Trouble is I can't update them because the store that I bought the computer from, their Apple ID is in the Apple ID field. The computer will only let me enter in the password for them.  After I got home from buying the computer that day, I immediately changed the email address, the password and I downloaded McAfee into the system so as to protect myself from "outside use".  I can't figure out how to delete the store ID from my computer.  I want to totally erase them from my computer system. I thought I had but obviously not.   I would call the store and ask how but I haven't been too impressed with their service since and prefer not to do busines with them again.  Funny thing is, I just updated the OSX Mavericks update with my current AppleID and password, but the computer is asking for the store password for the other 3. Can someone out there in Apple world help??!!  Please!!  Thank you in advance!

Erasing it completely is the only way to ensure that you will not encounter the periodic requests for passwords that you do not have. It's a condition of sale Apple's OS X license requires, and the store was remiss in not doing so. It's up to you but I'd be inclined to return that Mac for a cash refund and use the proceeds to purchase one from a more competent vendor.
The Mac's original OS can be reinstalled using OS X Recovery as explained in the above referenced Support document (step 5). If that was not Mavericks, it can subsequently be upgraded to Mavericks at no additional charge.
Follow that document - it explains how to archive your photos, music, and other essential files before erasing the Mac, so that you can subsequently reinstall them.
Apps obtained from the Mac App Store that are not already included in OS X cannot be transferred to an Apple ID different than the one used to purchase them. It's simply impossible.
Why shouldn't I have McAfee on my computer???
Because not only is it totally worthless, it is likely to cause problems.
If I don't use that for virus protection then aren't I leaving myself vulnerable against viruses and the such?
There are no Mac OS X viruses. As for "and the such" nothing improves upon what is already incorporated in OS X and most garbage like McAfee will only cause problems. Those that don't cause problems will accomplish nothing beneficial.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • How to restore Emails to Mail from Time Machine?

Does anyone know how I restore my Mail contents?
I have restored my User to a Mac mini from Time Machine.
But my Mail contents were not restored.
I have not been able to find any intructions to restore my Mail contents.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • How to create new schema or restore on full version from 11g xe backup.

    hi,
the situation is i get bakup of  a 11g xe installation at remote place and i have to restore only one schema out of it into
a running enterprise version of oracle database.
please tel me how many ways i can transfer one schema to full version of oracle.
i know one way is to export import schema from one data base to other.
please tel me is there any other ways to do it. which  is better, if not better then at least it should be practical.
--i want that same schema be present at both places and when ever i get backup from xe it will be resorted on existing schema in full version of oracle
--or i am ready to create new schema at full version from backup of xe installation also, optionally if i can restore on it, than it will be comfortable for me.
note: schema at both end will be same.
    afteter

1)can exported schem from xe be imported on full oracle ( enterprise standerd etc ,that is the paid one) ?
2)i thought , people will say when u have bakup use bakup, it is more practical than using export import.
this is where we need help.people who are working in oracle they can help us in deciding.

  • How long should it take to restore the iphone 5 from iCloud?

I had 3.8 gb in my iphone 4 backup and this new restore seems to be stopping at 6.1 mb. Restored twice with same results. Said device is still restoring. Nearly 24 hours.

    Something is wrong.
    - Reset the iPhone.
Reset iPhone: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - and try again.

  • How can I do a Session Restore after a crash from a week or so ago (i.e. not most recent)

After a recent FF crash (Vsn 13.0.1 - I know) on the next start up it asked if I wanted to restore session, said yes - then realised all previous tabs were missing. Shut down and re-started nothing happened so checked Task List and found multiple versions (2) of FF in memory - ended those sessions.
Tried to rename/re-use sessionstore.js and sessionrestore.bak but didn't contain tabs wanted, so I need to know if there is a way to 'undelete' previous sessionrestore.js files and use the one from a week or so ago to restore the tabs from then? I presume the same renaming procedure is used - could someone direct me to the procedure to do this?
    Thanks.

I can find multiple (deleted) Sessionstore.js files with different dates and times in the n33mpvib.default folder, in 'good' condition. I have tried to save 1 from last week (to a different drive, E:) and then renamed sessionstore.js to *.old and copied in the recovered sessionstore.js from E: into n33mpvib.default folder, and restarted FF - didn't work.
I can see all the tabs I had previously opened in the History, but can't remember which were still open (active) at the time of the crash.
Is there something I am not doing correctly in the first paragraph procedure?

  • How do you stop an email from continually being recovered that has completely stopped any new mail from being received?

In trying to send an oversized video via email (exceeded 25 MG) size limit, I got an error message. I thought I deleted the email. However, whenever email is open, the message continually gets recovered, blocking any email from being recieved. I am able to create and send emails. Internet checks out ok. Using AOL.iMap. It seems that I am not able to interrupt the continual attempts to send the original email.

To those who have viewed my question, thank you. I found the solution under "Mail sending and recovering emai!" I went to Email Preferences, Advanced, and selected "Dont't keep copies of any messages" on the pull down of Keep copies of messages for offline viewing:, saved changes and problem solved. Thanks,

  • How do you sync the auto-complete facility in mac mail from one device to another?

Hi - Autocomplete in mac mail works fine on my macbook pro. I just got a Mac Pro and it want to do the same but it doesn't. It seems only to read the addresses in my address book and not memorize any of the ones from the "TO" field in Mail? Thanks....

As Studio X pointed out, you open a huge can of worms when you work with sequences of different specifications, but try this -
once the clip has been pasted into the sequence, click on it on the timeline so that it is selected. Now Control-click on that clip, and from the drop down menu, choose Remove Attributes.
When the remove attributes pane opens, check the box for Basic Motion and Distort (if they are not grayed out) and click OK. This should reset the clip size.
If this is successful, you can do this to multiple clips all at once by selecting them, then clicking on any one of the selected clips and doing the above.
