How do I do a reverse pivot in 2010???

I have one question.
I have source file in XML format which contains data :
<Industry_Sector>Z;A;D;F;G</Industry_Sector>
my need is to upload data as Industry Sectors

D
F
G
I need to map it to the field Industry Sectors in MDM.
I followed steps :- 1) Split into multiple fields with ; as delimeter on the source side of import manager.
2) Selected all split fields and did reverse pivtoing.
When i tried with XML file its hows error "Unable to Create Reverse Pivot"
while when i tried with access i was able to do.
What may the error? or there is any other improve process that i can follow?

As far as i know XML is an updateable data source,so it should allow you to modify the data source.
Pivoting and Reverse pivoting are the options in MDM that need to work with an Updateable data source only.
Please check the READ ONLY option .This option will be checked by default for an XML source.It should be unchecked for updating the XML source file.

It's pretty awesome how you can define Extract Transform and Load processes within Power Query without having to type in a single line of code. However how do I reference a Power Pivot table from a Power Query query to avoid me repeatedly accessing
the same data source (CSV) file with a view to increasing performance?
We are aware of the reference sub menu option with Power Query. However the new query created by the "reference" option still seems to refresh data from the data source (CSV) rather than just referencing the base query. Is this understanding
correct? There does seem to be a lot of hard disk activity when re-running the new query which is based on a base query rather than a data source. So we were hoping the new query would just need to reference the base query in memory rather than rescanning
the hard disk. Is there any way to ensure that the reference query just rescans the base query in memory?

This sounds like something to be suggested for a future release. At the present time, Power Query will always re-run the entire Power Query query when refreshed. The Reference feature is analogous to a SQL view whereby the underlying query is always re-executed
when it's queried, or in this case refreshed. Even something like using the Power Query cache to minimise the amount of data re-read from the disk would be helpful for performance but the cache is only used for the preview data and stored locally.
It would be a good idea to suggest this feature to the Power BI team via the feedback smiley face.

Unequal records Reverse Pivot?

I have to merge several records into one.
For example in source i have two cols one with ID in COL1 and text with COL2:-
COL1 COL2

567 LMN
324 PWS
324 SWX

Output
123 ABCDEFGHI
567 LMN

I tried reverse pivot but the variable COL1 value could not be captured.

I did as you suggested and wrote a custom function like this:

There is no error in this, but i am not getting the desired output. Could you help me with the custom function script?

How to save layout with ALV Pivot format

In ALV report I have 25 fields but I want to use 10 fields out of 25 fields in Pivot Table. My problem is how to save this layout with Pivot format for on going use. At every time execution of report I need not required to set Pivot Table.

Are you using FM REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY? If yes, then pass 'X' to the parameter I_SAVE while calling the fm.
if you are using Object Oriented ALV, then call the below method before calling the method for display

My issues using an Example,
I've a power pivot with 3 related tables, (two dimension tables and one measure table), then I created a pivot chart using
that 3 tables as source...
The pivot chart is a little complex... it takes some time to rebuild from the scratch... I have added 3 measures to the chart,
M1, M2, M3... but due to a business changes I need to refresh the measures M1, M2, M3 with information from a different source...
i.e. I need to drop the 3 measures from the Power Pivot, then I need to add them again with the same names, but when I drop
them from the power pivot table the pivot Chart Fields Values disappear and the chart obviously is refreshed without the 3 measures... :S
Question: How can I drop a column from a power pivot table, then add it again with the same name without affect the Pivot
Chart Fields... i.e. only when I do the refresh manually the charts are affected... but once the name of the columns are the same.. the charts don't change the layout....

I have one problem regarding my Pivot report.
I have to calculate MTD an YTD in my single report so i have calculated MTD in one criteria (UNION) YTD in second criteria.
In my MTD i have to show 4 column: A B C D
and in YTD I have to show only 3 column : A B C
So how to hide column D in YTD.

1. when i do cast as null to my D column in second report. I am getting error
(Union for non compatible)
2. so i done the cast in first report also..
3. Done the union all
4.and done the HIDE for column D in Result Column..
But still i am seeing it in my report in YTD...

How to control the default Reverse Date at VL09

At VL09 (reverse goods movement) screen, the default Reverse Date is today.
If users want to modify the Reverse Date,
users have to select a line, click on define date button and input date into the local date field at pop-up screen.
I want the default Reverse Date at VL09 screen to be the same as the Actual GI date of delivery.
Please tell me how.
