Home Sharing has to be specifically enabled on all your devices: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
From the above:
Make sure the firewall in Apple () menu > System Preferences > Security > Firewall are not set to:
Block all incoming connections
Allow only essential services
...but read all the steps to be sure you didn't miss anything.

  • How do I use Home Sharing to share apps between multiple Apple ID accounts on differect PCs in the same house?

    I purchased an app called "Where's My Water?" on my iTunes account. My iTunes account and iTunes library is set up on my desktop PC. Anyway, my mom wanted the app. She has her iTunes account and library set up on our laptop PC. So, I connected both my desktop and her laptop via Home Sharing by entering my account information on both computer's Home Sharing screens. The app was transferred from my library to her library. When I synced her iPod to her PC, it did not move the app to the iPod. So, I figured I would just manually download it off the app store on her iPod and she wouldn't get charged $0.99 because the app was already in her iTunes library. It turns out when I bought the app on her iPod, it actually took out money from her account. I want to know what went wrong. Why didn't the Home Sharing thing work so she could get the app I bought without having to buy it herself?

    The short answer: because Home Sharing isn't designed for sharing apps, and apps aren't designed to be shared.
    The longer answer:  Think of it like this...
    You download some music in iTunes.  With Home Sharing, another user can listen to it by streaming it over the network.  But the data itself is on your computer.  If you turn off the computer or take it off the network, the other user can't access it.
    But if you send another user the app, they aren't just streaming the data- they installed it on their iOS device.  Because they weren't the one that purchased it, such a transfer could easily be considered "piracy" or "stealing," and nobody likes that (least of all, Apple).
    When iTunes sees this app, it obviously recognized it, as if saying, "Hey, how did you get this app on your device, if I have no record of you purchasing/downloading it from the iTunes store?"

  • How can I distinguish multiple computers with home sharing?

    I have 2 computers which have Home Sharing turned on. When I use Apple TV it shows both computers and can play videos from both without any problems.
    What I cannot work out is how to change the names of the shares. They both have the same name which appears to be determined by the first name from my itunes account which is sharing files rather than using the name of the library on the computer. So, both computers look identical. I cannot tell which one I am choosing from the list.
    Since most of my videos are on an external hard drive which will only be connected to one at a time, I can only tell if I have selected the correct one when the video plays or shows an error.
    Why does Home Sharing not care what I want to name my library or about the name of the sharing computer? Have I missed something? I know how to change the name of my "shared library" but it is irrelevant to what Apple TV can see.
    It seems pointless to show the name of a shared library if that name is determined by the sharing account when Apple TV can only use one account at a time. Every computer it will allow will be called the same thing.
    If it's relevant, my sharing computers are using Mac OSX 10.7 and Windows 7.

    When I change it to say Matt's library from administrators library, the name changes on my apple tv. I'm not sure about 2 computers though. I would think changing the library name under preferences would work.

  • How do I connect both a Mac and PC to Apple TV Home Sharing?

    Goal
    - I am trying to share both my PC and Mac through my Apple TV2 on the "Computers" home sharing menu.
    - These are 2 seperate iTunes accounts as they are 2 different owners of the PC and Macbook.
    - However, home sharing only allows me to have one at a time, can I not have 2 computers connected?
      (The menu is in fact plural and says "Computers" not "Computer")
    Attempt
    -I turn on home sharing on my PC with my PC iTunes account, it then shows up on the "Computers" list as PC
    -I turn on home sharing on my Mac with my Mac iTunes account, it then shows up on the "Computers" list as Mac, but it deletes the PC share
    Troubleshoot
    -So I started from scatch and connected the PC share with my PC itunes account, it shows up,
    -Then I connect the Mac home sharing with the same iTunes login as my PC, but it also erases my PC from the "Computers" list and just displays the Mac.
    Question
    -How do I connect both a Mac and PC to Apple TV Home Sharing?
    -I want them both to show up in the "Computers" list.
    -So the final result will look like this on my Apple TV menu:
    Computers
    -PC
    -Mac
    whew... I'm out of breath... I hope there is an Apple Genius out there that can help.
    Thanks!

    After retrying the home share with the SAME ITUNES ACCOUNT ON HOME SHARING I finally got it to work.

  • HT202667 Hi - My daughter was using her Apple TV until recently when she got a Smart TV.  Now the Apple TV is not needed so she passed it on to me.  How do I get it transferred over from her Home Sharing account to mine so that I can use it with my PC?

    As  Winston Churchill wrote, however you might want to do a factory reset on the Apple TV.
    This way all information pertaining to your daughter will be removed from the device. Specifically if see was sign into any of the streaming service, Netflix, Hulu, etc. her credentials will still be associated with this Apple TV, doing  a factory reset will remove all that and make it as if you purchased the device and just plugged it in.

  • Can't figure out how to use home sharing

    Since the latest couple iTunes updates, my family and I can not figure out how to use home sharing. Everyone in our household has their own iTunes, and for a long time we would just share our music through home sharing. But with the updates, so much has changed that we can no longer figure out how to use it.
    I have a lot of purchased albums on another laptop in the house, that im trying to move it all over to my own iTunes, and I have spent a long time searching the internet, and everything. And I just can't figure out how to do it. So.... how does it work now? I would really like to get these albums from my moms iTunes, onto mine. I would hate to have to buy them all over again.
    If anyone is able to help me out here, that would be great! Thanks!

    The problem im having is that after I am in another library through home sharing, I can't figure out how to select an album and import it to my library. They used to have it set up so that you just highlight all of the songs you want, and then all you had to do was click import. Now I don't even see an import button, or anything else like it. So im lost... I don't know if it's something im doing wrong, or if our home sharing system just isn't working properly.
    Thanks for the help.

  • How do I use home sharing if I have a different apple ID than my wife?

    My wife and I have two seperate accounts.  Do we need to create one apple ID for our house and keep our seperate ID's?  If thats the case how do I listen to my music with my apple ID if it is for a different account?  We want to share our libraries since we have different music.  Dont tell me to copy our music to  DVD or CD and transfer it that was, that defeats the purpose of home sharing.

    Keep in mind we both have our own iPhones and iPads under our own accounts.

  • Multiple users, devices & Apple IDs in the house. Can we, and how would we, use Home Sharing?

    We have three users in the house, each with their own Apple ID, using multiple mac/PC devices.  Can we and how would we use Home Sharing to share music, apps, etc?

    Do you have a computer. You can't share music or apps from one mobile device to another. To share photos you need to use photo stream shared albums.

  • How can I use home sharing between our iphones (create playlists from both accounts at once)

    How can I use home sharing between our iphones, so that we can create playlists with songs from both of our libraries?  We share a Macbook Pro (separate accounts) and each have the new iphone, but when I have my iphone and try to create a new playlist, I can only grab songs from one account.  Is there a way to create a playlist using both accounts since we are sharing?
    Does it have to be created within iTunes first on our Mac?

  • How do I share my iTunes library to an iPad without using "Home Sharing"?

    I have set up my iTunes library to be shared with others over our home network.  This is the "Share your library" option, and NOT "Home Sharing" since my wife has her own Apple ID and I, unfortunatly, have 2.  She was wanting to listen to our music on her iPad but could not figure out how to access the shared library.  The "Music" app (click more, select library) only seems to work for Home Shared libraries.  (In fact, I had tried Home Sharing first and when I turned it off, all of the buttons at the bottom of the Music app's screen disappeared - note:  she has no music stored on the iPad.)
    So, how can an iPad access a shared iTunes music library without using Home Sharing?
    (iPad 2, iOS 6; Mac 10.8, iTunes 10 because 11 totally inhibits my ability to use my iPod the way I want.)

    -> Home Sharing is different than logging into the iTunes store.
    You enable Home Sharing using one AppleID. Doesn't matter which you use but all devices must use the same AppleID for Home Sharing.

  • HT202213 I have 3 users on one computer with 3 unique user accounts.  Each have unique ITunes accounts.  How do we share our music libraries using home sharing?

    I have 3 users on one computer with 3 unique user accounts.  Each of us have separate and unique ITunes accounts.  How do we share our music libraries using Home Sharing?  Everything that I can find talks about sharing between networked computers, but this is all on the same computer.  I just want to share between ITunes accounts.  Thanks!

    Hi b noir, I also have two users on one pc with two different iTunes libraries.  But I also want to put them onto an external hard drive so that I can free up some memory on the pc.  So I figure I need to consolidate the two users iTunes libraries first before moving to hard drive?  But not quite sure how to do that on the iTunes 11?  Thanking you in advance!!

  • My Ipod wont sync with my new library and I dont know why not. It will show that it is connected through home sharing, but it is only avalible when i am with my laptop! I dont know how to get this current library as mine on my ipod, help!

    My ipod will not sync with my laptop. I have had previous Ipods in the past, but since then I have grown out of most of my music. Also about a year and a half ago I got a new laptop. I used the same Itunes name, but now on my new Ipod it has all of my old music and it refuses to download any of my new music. When I am using home sharing though, it says that I can turn on my "Library" but that my "music" is what is perminately on the computer. This only works though if I am near my laptop. When I try to transfer my library onto my ipod it wont let me. My music on my ipod is completely different than my normal itunes library on my computer and I have no idea how to transfer it. When I plug it in, it wont sync at all, or show that there is any device even plugged in. I am frustrated and tired of not having any  of my music, so someone please help!!!

    You can only sync to one computer/iTunes library. To make this your syncing computer:
    Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities

  • How to get all songs to show up between computers in home sharing?

    I have a laptop that has all of my 1000+ iTunes songs downloaded from the iStore and CDs. I downloaded iTunes on my desktop and connected them with Home Sharing. At first iI thought it worked great but noticed less than half of my songs showed up in iTunes on the Desktop. All of the songs are checked in iTunes on the laptop so I am not sure what I am doing wrong and how I can get all of my songs to show up on both computers.

    Here is a (ugly?) solution that allows you to use the keyboard more effectively. When you are on a cell you want to edit, use the enter key to put you into edit mode.
    table = new JTable(model)
         protected void processKeyEvent(KeyEvent e)
               if (  e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_ENTER)
                    if (e.getID() == KeyEvent.KEY_PRESSED)
                        int column = table.getSelectedColumn();
                        int row = table.getSelectedRow();
                        Rectangle r = getCellRect(row, column, false);
                        Point p = new Point( r.x, r.y );
                        SwingUtilities.convertPointToScreen(p, table);
                         try
                              Robot robot = new Robot();
                              robot.mouseMove(p.x, p.y );
                              robot.mousePress(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);
                              robot.mouseRelease(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);
                              robot.mousePress(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);
                              robot.mouseRelease(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);
                              robot.mouseMove(0, 0 );
                         catch (Exception e2) {}
               else
                   super.processKeyEvent(e);
    };

  • I am having a problem with homesharing on my apple tv. The email address on my tv is different than what I am registered with. How do I correct the email address that is being displayed under home sharing on the apple tv?

    Somehow my apple id email address under homesharing on my apple tv is different than that used for homesharing on itunes in my imac. I can't access home sharing on my apple tv because of this. Can you please tell me how to change it on the apple tv in order to get homesharing to work?

    turn off home sharing on apple tv, then turn it on again, entering new credentials. Apple-TV works very reliably with home sharing unlike iDevices which don't

    Did you purchase your MacBook Air new?  Do you still have its box?  Locate its serial number and telephone Apple at the number shown at the bottom of this page (1-800-MY-APPLE if you're in the U.S.).  They can help you.
