How do I do this: "This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk?"
"This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk."
Stick the disk in, reboot holding c.
Disk Utility is a menu option about the 2 or 3rd screen in the installer. (don't install OS X!)
Because your booted form the installer disk, you can repair the disk.
Quit and exit the installer and reboot.
If your drive is not repaired, make a note of all what it says, for Apple to use.
Reboot and get your files off to a external drive,
Take the note and your comptuer to Apple for a warranty/Apple care call, they will replace the drive.

I have a boot disk that needs repair and I would like to know the correct way to repair this disk using another install disc. I guess there is an issue with the volume free block count.
Please advise.
Thanks.Insert/connect that disk if needed, start up with the Option key held down, tab to it, and press Enter. If it's a Mac OS X install DVD, choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. If it's a different Mac OS X installation, open the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder. Repair the drive.

I'm running Lion on a 15" 500gb Spring 2011 MBP. Ran Disk Utility and got this message. Since I don't have an install disk for Lion, what do I do? Thanks!
P.S. I searched the database and all questions with this were pre-Lion.Restart your Mac and press command R.
This brings up the invisible Rescue/Install partition placed on your drive when Lion was installed.
Alternatively, you can hold down the Option Key at Startup and choose "Recovery HD".
In either case, proceed as if you had booted from a DVD, answer only the "What Language" question, but do NOT Install. Wait for the MenuBar to be drawn and choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. -
hi there!
the disk in my Mac desktop need repairing.
the Disc Utility is asking me to start the computer by running the Mac OS X TIGER installation disc and then repair the disc.
my question is;
by running the disc MAC OS X TIGER in order to repair it do i run the risk of downgrading the actual operating system of Lion to Tiger (which is 5 years old)?
thanking you in anticipation.

the computer was bought 5 years ago so i have only one disc which is Tiger.
the lion was bought on line 4 months ago so i have no disc.
so it meas that i will be downgrading 5 years back if go ahead and do it?
No, don't do that. As Dave said, if you're running Lion, use the Recovery HD (partition, actually) that should be on your internal HD already. See Using the Recovery HD for details. -
Verify disc and repair disc are not working. They give me the option to install the "installation disc" click on utilities>Disk utility from there. When I try this, there is no option to do this that I can find. Can anyone help me to do this?
You can't run Repair Disk from the Utilities folder. With 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6 put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
Or if you are running 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion, boot from the recovery partition (Command +R on boot) and use Disk Utility to repair your OS 10.7 or 10.8 partition.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is, then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive. -

How to Sync Your iPod With Another PC Without Losing Your Music?
So, my computer crashed and is completely unusable and now it is time to update my ipod touch and I would like to download new music but when I try to connect it with a new computer, it says my ipod is needing an update and to go to itunes.com to download the latest version. I click OK and go to itunes.com and it has me download itunes, not update my ipod. Any ideas on how to update my ipod???
Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

I have a 13-inch MacBook (Model No. A1181) that was purchased in the summer of 2006 with Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) on it. I have been trying to clean up this MacBook in an effort to get it to run more efficiently. First, I Verified and Repaired Disk Permissions using Disk Utility. That completed successfully.
Second, I tried to Verify Disk using Disk Utility. This process stopped before completion with an error. The error reads,
Disk Utility stopped verifying "Macintosh HD"
This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), an then use Disk Utility to repair this disk.
I do not have the installation discs/DVDs that came with this MacBook (2006) anymore. However, my mom has the installation discs that came with her 13-inch MacBook, purchased 12/2009. Can I use the Mac OS X installation disc (10.6) that came with her MacBook (2009) in my earlier model MacBook (2006) to repair the disk (Macintosh HD)?
Are there any other solutions?
Thank you,
ColinHi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
You need the discs that came with the MacBook.
For further information, you may want to post in the _MacBook Forum_.

As stated above. I get this when I try to resize my HD. Was having issues with BootCamp so I removed it and got this.
This disk doesn’t contain an EFI system partition. If you want to start up your computer with this disk or include it in a RAID set, back up your data and partition this disk.the same problem...

Last week I've install Mac OS X Mountain Lion and then after the installation finish my IMAC start up in verbose mode. How can I turn off this mode and start my IMAC normally. I've try to key in the code "sudo nvram boot-args=" in terminal also.
Thank you for all of your answer.I've seen it mentioned on here that a PRAM reset may solve it:
Reset PRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P and R.
You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys. -
Since updating to OS X Yosemite, I am unable to save files into another computer or server. I have to save it on my desktop and then drag it into the server. How do i correct this?
Ok this worked to solve the error.
Use cmd prompt in windows 7 or 8 and run as admin:
sc config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi
sc config mrxsmb20 start= disabled
No need for all that power shell nonsense as shown elsewhere for windows 8.
That's it. Also force smb2 disabling on the apple side for good measure.
With the above I was able to network mavericks and windows 8.1 pro flawlessly. He issues I had before where I could not read video, ISO and audio files (but could open documents and pictures from the windows machine connected to an apple network share folder went away. -
I get an error message when trying to sign into the support community with another Apple id. On the <pick a username> screen I get "an account utilizing this address already exists.Only one account per email address is allowed on the Apple Support Communities" despite trying a few usernames. Anyone know how I can resolve this?
This problem has been driving me demented. The instructions that Ivan gives have partially worked for me. By following his link
"How to find out if you have multiple Apple IDs" I was able to identify that yes I did have two apple accounts using the same e mail address. One was very old that I used to use for the forum boards and one is my much more recent ID that I use for everything these days. So I changed the e mail address for the old account which is associated with these discussion boards and that's the account that I am now posting this from. However even though the two accounts now have different e mail addresses when I try to log onto the boards with my more recent main apple ID I still get all the same errors as described at the start of this thread by rodgers_j. And of course that's the one I want to use so that I only have one itunes account for everything.
So if anyone has any more hints I'd be very grateful. -
How to copy and paste the graphics from illustrator to MS word. What I tried is exporting in png with highest resolution and then inserting in to word. This loses a bit of resolution in comparison to direct copy and paste as EMF. But if I do a copy and paste, and then take a print of the document, all the graphs and text is printed upside down, flipped back.
Use the Pencil Tool

I just bought a newer Nano and I need to upgrade my itunes for a laptop (with Windows) that no longer has the capability to go online. Is there a way to do this?
Hi John,
Thanks for your response, but if you read my first mail, it's the original serial number that I don't have. I bought the original LR as download and have misplaced the serial number. Is there any way to find it???

When I highlight photo's in bridge and then click open in camera raw this message comes up... Camera Raw Editing Is not enabled...Camera raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature. I have used camera raw a different way but it won't seem to work with bridge.
Have you opened Photoshop or any other Adobe app that Bridge works with? You need to do this if you've upgraded PS or just signed up for CC.
