How do I down-grade from Aperture 3 to Aperture 2?

With great gusto I installed Aperture 3 on release. I now have an unusable piece of junk instead of a photo app. I've tried to get work done with it, I just can't. It simply isn't usable.
I need to down-grade, but I'm worried that just copying back my library and my old program files won't be enough. for a start, Software update installed an extra package for Aperture 3 - so what will happen if I try to use Aperture 2 when that's still installed? Or can I un-install that update?
Any guidance would be much appreciated. I can't be the only person trying to turn back time on this dud update!
Bart.

Hi Bart.
I am sorry you are having problems. Until a few days ago I felt similarly to you but, having contacted Apple Aperture Support and implemented their suggestions, I have had no further lock ups or crashes.
Some background:-
I have been using Aperture since 1.5 & I have used Lightroom since Beta 1. Because I rely on these apps. heavily and because Adobe and Apple appeared to be leap frogging each other with better and better features as each app. matures, I have run BOTH apps. side by side since the early days. A bit of an over kill perhaps but that`s what I do.
Now, Aperture 2 was a huge upgrade from 1.5 and superior to the currrent LR version. When LR 2.0 was released I foolishly purchased and installed. Well, this version was appalling; local adjustments were almost unusable but I was also experiencing other issues. I contacted Adobe LR support and found them arrogant and rude at the extreme!! I wrote to the head honcho in an extremely strongly worded letter and demanded a refund as the software was not fit for purpose. Very quickly I received a reply with a series of helpful suggestions. Those I duly implemented and LR 2.0 worked reasonably well BUT, the local adjustments were still a sack of C**P! I returned LR 2.0 to the background and used AP 2.0 in my primary workflow. LR was upgraded, local adj. became useable, quite good actually and I then implemented LR into my primary workflow. Aperture was becoming a bit long in the tooth by now with lots or rumours about it`s demise. Well eventually AP 3.0 was released! I downloaded and started to use it with some newly imported images, leaving my AP 2.0 library alone and VERY well backed up (obviously). I experienced a shed load of problems - crashing, lock ups and other weird things! I had no problems with any other App.
I decided to ring Apple Aperture Support. The difference between Apple Support and Adobe Support was like chalk & cheese! Apple were punctual, pleasant, efficient whereas Adobe were just plain slow and arrogant (mostly).
The guy from Apple asked me loads of questions about my system, workflow etc and we spent about 30 mins chatting. He suggested a plan that I invoked as he talked through this on the line.
Now, I know you are a computer scientist and I am NOT but I do know my way around the Mac quite well and i am a professional photographer with not a little experience. To that end I can only explain to yoou what I did and the effects.
1. We created a Guest account and ran Ap. clean. New library and new imports - worked well.
2. Logged in to my account, deleted the Aperture plist, deleted the library and re-imported a small number of images.
3. To date I have had NO crashes or lovc ups, in fact Ap 3.0 is working beautifully if not a little
resource hungry! I Have FACES switched OFF).
4. It was also suggested that I reinstall the app. but I have not found that necessary.
5. Support also suggested that as it is "early days" with 3.0 users are better placed to install and use initially with a new library BEFORE importing AP 2.0 libs.
6. Images I process in Aperture 3.0 using NIkon D700 & D3 look fantastic and I am very happy with the results.
7. I have used virtually every aspect of Ap. 3.0 and have not had any problems with Export to Mobile Me, Places, Slideshow etc.
8. There is no doubt that AP 3.0 is resource hungry. I have the Activity Monitor open when using Ap. and at times both Memory & CPU resources appear to be very "stretched".
As I say I am not a super geek but I do know Aperture (and Lightroom) and cannot explain fully why I no longer have any problems? I do know however that Ap. is working beautifully and I will almost certainly be using this in my main workflow whilst continuing to use LR in the background.
There is no doubt that this upgrade was immense and if Apple continue to evolve this app. quickly AND update RAW support in a timely fashion I will probably use it.
MY Hardware:-
iMac 24" - 2.4 GHZ Intel Core Duo 4GB Ram ATI RadeonHD2600
I hope this of interest and also hope that if anyone is experiencing any problems with AP. 3.0 that they are resolved in a timely fashion.
Hope your AP 2.0 Library was backed up - you are a computer scientist after all (:-
Regards.
Nick

You need the origianl method (or a new copy of it) and then hold the option key down to boot from it.
Then erase the drive in disk utility first,, then install 10.6.earler on it, the don't Software update as it will download the 10.6.8 Combo Update.
Naturally erasing the drive will remove all programs and files, but that's the only way to downgrade OS X to a earlier version.

Had to down grade from OS 10.4.7 to 10.4.6 so AVID will work, don't hold that against me. Now compressor 2.0.1 is not opening. Also grayed out in Final Cut Pro. How do I get Compressor to work again?

Hey Big, i love avid's, especially our perty DS NITIRS they have here at work.
ok, sounds like your "problem" is no big deal at all. i would just uninstall compressor and ALL her components and do a fresh reinstall.
also, make sure you have all the pro updates (i see you installed them once already, so unistall those as well) and you should be fine. might be just a slight conflict with your new avid install.

  • How do I get images from Aperture into print shop for mac?

    Friends,
I have Print Shop for Mac and Aperture. How do I get images from Aperture into Print Shop? I'musing managed images with previews. Is there any option besides exporting to the desktop and importing?
    Thanks!
    Steve

if you have previews turned on in Aperture and they're all genereated, you can simply drag-n-drop them into any application (just about). drag-n-drop is essentially the same as copy/paste as long as the application is setup to accept "drops" onto its windows.
otherwise, if you're running Leopard (10.5) as your version of Mac OS X, when you import (or whatever it is in PrintShop), you should get a file selection dialog. from here, scroll down the left-hand side bar set of icons. near the bottom is a group called "Media". click on the triangle to open the group, choose Photos, and from here you should see an Aperture icon. click this and you'll see your whole library (or at least the portion of it that you have previews generated for. select the photo you want and viola!

  • How do I transfer photos from aperture and iPhoto to bridge?

How do I transfer photos from Aperture and iPhoto to Adobe Bridge.  I am using Photoshop CS6.  Many of my original photos were stored as raw files.

Here's how to access Mac iPhoto images for use in Photoshop
and so that they may be viewed by choosing that folder in Bridge..
    1. In the Finder, navigate to Users > [user name} > Pictures > iPhoto Library.
    2. Control-click (Right-click) the iPhoto Library file and choose Show Package Contents.
    3. A Finder window opens that shows the contents. The Masters folder (or called Originals folder) contains all of the photographs that are in iPhoto.
Photoshop cannot access this folder, but if you make a duplicate of the folder, the dupe will be accessible -- so:
    4. Control-click (Right-click) the folder named Masters (or Originals) and choose Duplicate.
5, Drag the duplicate folder which is named "Masters copy" or “Originals copy” from the iPhoto Library Finder window to the Desktop.
    6. Open images in Photoshop from file on desktop or view them in Bridge.
7  Rename the folder and move it elsewhere (probably to the Pictures folder), if desired.

  • How do I remove images from aperture?

Totally new to apple and aperture so I apologise if this seems like a somewhat noob question but how do I remove images from aperture (using the latest version, 3.4.1)? Coming from a PC and using lightroom I'm used to being able to remove images in two ways:
    - removing the image from the "library", so that it no longer shows up in the program at all but is still on your hard drive (when I say removing it from the program entirely, I mean entirely, i.e. not sitting in a trash can or some other place where it's still taking up memory)
    - deleting the original image off the hard drive
Is it possible to do either of these things in aperture, on both just a single image or a selection of multiple images, and if so how? I've tried googling this already and am getting a bunch of mixed solutions, none of which have really worked so far, so any answers would be appreciated. Thanks!

The answer partially depends on whether you have a managed or referenced library. Since you're totally new to Aperture, I'm assuming you have a managed library since that's the default.
FYI: Managed means Aperture handles image files and places them inside the library file. Referenced means you manage the image files and Aperture only points to (references) them.
For a managed library, select an image you want to delete. Type command-delete. (That's the reverse delete key next to the "=" key). (You can also right-click an image and choose Delete Version) That will remove the images from their Project and place in the Aperture Trash. They're still taking up space in the Trash. If you really want them gone for good, right-click the Trash in the library pane and select Empty Trash. Poof.
For a reference library, I forgot the exact details since I don't use this type of library, but you'll be asked (or can check a box) to delete the original file from the disk.

Downgrade Lion/Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard
      1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer
loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the
          Utilities menu.
      2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the
mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status
of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then
the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART
info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on
the Partition tab in the DU main window.
      3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions
from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS
Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on
the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

How can I export photos from APERTURE with a new sequence and ignore the embedded JPEG number? Have tried renumbering to no avail.
    has anyone resolved this issue?
This is now the second big Problem with using Apple's Appeture with NO apparent FIX...
Aperture has NO DIRECT way to Burn to a CD/DVD & apparently NO way to RE-SEQUENCE the numbering system????
ANYONE... I wish APPLE would address/fix these 2 problems... LIGHTROOM I guess is next?

    Hi David,
Coming in and whining loudly is rude.  We are all volunteers here, voluntarily sharing our expertise so that users like you can make the most of their time with Aperture.  Speaking just for myself:  although I do care about your success with software (it's why I'm here), I don't care what software you use.  If you want to use Lightroom, do so, and post your questions in an appropriate forum.
Burning files to a CD is a file operation done at the system level (it is built into OS X).  Aperture lets your create sharable image-format files from your Images.  You then use OS X's tools to burn those files to a CD.  Iirc, you can set up a "Burn Folder" in Finder, into which you can export files created from your Images, and with a single click burn your CD.
Naming the files you create by exporting your Images can be tricky.  There are _many_ possibilities.  Some things can't be done.  Sequencing can be done in a number of ways (see Léonie's answer above).  What have you tried?  What was the result?  In what way did this differ from what you expected?
