How do I downgrade from Windows 8.1 to 7 and will my laptop function correctly after this?

I bought my new laptop yesterday and unfortunately it came with Windows 8.1. I love that Microsoft innovates but I however dislike Windows 8/8.1. So I want to go back to Windows 7.
The problem is: What are the steps to this? I still have an official Windows 7 CD. I read alot of things about backing up drivers? How do I do this? And will my laptop be able to run correctly when I install Windows 7? Considering this laptop might be made for Windows 8.1..
Thanks!
Edit: I have a HP 15-d050nd TouchSmart Notebook-PC

****Disclaimer*****
HP doesn't recommend the installation of Windows 7 on a computer shipped with Windows 8, nor will it support the installation of Windows 7. HP will not provide Windows 7 drivers and suitable drivers may not be available for the hardware in the computer. Also, Windows 7 may not support some of the hardware or software features designed for the computer.
Make sure you create your HP Recovery Discs or USB Flash Recovery media before modifying or changing ANYTHING.
The screen shots below are from an HP 15t-j100 notebook computer... the options and configuration screens on your computer may differ.
You will need to DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the "BIOS Secure Boot configuration" on the settings page similar to what is shown below, before you can attempt to install Windows 7;
After saving the changes, the computer will request that you confirm the changes... Accept the changes by typing the four digit code and pressing the "ENTER" key.
If are you are installing from a USB stick and see a "Load Driver - a required CD/DVD drive device is missing" message, this is because "System Configuration" > "USB3.0 Config in Pre-Boot" is set to "Enabled". This must be set to "Auto". This should clear up the CD/DVD device missing.
Additionally, as the hard drive is most likely partitioned as GPT, you must boot using the UEFI-Internal CD/DVD or UEFI-USB Key/Drive to install Windows on a GPT partitioned disk. Turn on or reboot the computer and tap "F9" or "ESC" and then "F9" when prompted. Highlight the UEFI boot source you are using and press "ENTER".
I suggest using Windows 7 SP1 for the best intallation experience. If you need Windows SP1, please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" to download and create your own Windows 7 SP1 disc. If the DVD refuses to boot as UEFI, you may need to use a USB Flash drive (may require DISABLING "Fast Boot" in the BIOS) as the installation media. Please download the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to create a Windows 7 SP1 USB Flash drive. Please note that some computers may not recognize a valid UEFI enabled USB Flash drive if it is formated as NTFS and may require a FAT32 formatted USB Flash drive. You should be able to make a FAT32 formatted Windows 7 installation USB Flash drive using Rufus, UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer, or WiNToBootic. I like Rufus, as it has options for "GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer" and "FAT32".
From the top...
1)  Turn on the computer and immediately start tapping the "ESC" key.
2)  When the MENU comes up, press the "F10" key.
3)  Navigate the BIOS to "System Configuration", "USB 3.0 Config in Pre-OS" and set to "Auto".
4)  Navigate the BIOS to  "System Configuration", "Boot Options" and set "Secure Boot" to "Disabled" and set "Legacy Support" to "Enabled".
5)  Press "F10" and click "YES" to "Exit Saving Changes"
6)  Computer should restart and display "Operating System Boot Mode Change"... type the four digit code and press "ENTER".
7)  Let Windows 8 boot-up and place the Windows 7 SP1media in the DVD drive or USB port, then log-off / shutdown.
8)  Turn on the computer and immediately start tapping the "ESC" key.
9)  When the MENU comes up, press the "F9" key and then select the correct UEFI boot source (Internal CD/DVD drive, USB CD/DVD drive, USB Flash drive, etc.)... Press any key to boot CD/DVD, if prompted.
10)  Select "Language", "Time / Currency", and "Keyboard" settings and then click "Next"
11)  Click "Install Now"... check "Accept Terms" and click "Next". Click "Custom (Advanced)".
12)  You may need to supply AMD SATA/RAID drivers at this time... Download AMD Chipset Drivers (Chipset / AHCI / USB 3.0)
13)  "Where do you want to install Windows 7???" Select "Disk / Partition" with "Unallocated Space" you created earlier and click "Next".
14)  Follow all prompts and answer as needed. Enter Windows 7 key when requested.
15)  Please install the AMD Chipset Drivers and the drivers from the HP 15-d050nd TouchSmart Notebook PC Drivers page. Post the Windows Device Manager's "Hardware Ids" (just the text) for all remaining missing or unknown devices, as shown in the example below;

  • How Do I Downgrade From Windows Vista To XP On A 3000 N100 Series Notebook?

Hello. Here is the problem. I have Windows Vista Pre-loaded on my 3000 N100 Notebook, absolutely dislike this operating system and want to erase and load Windows XP. From reading other forum messages I have learned several things.
    1) The install disk On Windows XP Home & Professional will not recognize Sata Hard Drives, when it reaches the point of loading where it looks for the hard drive it "BOMBS OUT" with error messages.
    Several options are open .............
    1) Log into the BIOS, locate the SATA option, and change to compatibility mode.
    2) Have a USB external floppy connected with a Sata Driver on it and when installing Windows XP press the "F6" button when Windows asks for any external drivers you want to load.
Here is the problem with the 3000 N100 Notebook series..........
1)There is "NO SATA OPTION" in the BIOS of the 3000 N100 series notebooks to choose. In this model Lenovo stripped the BIOS down to the bare essentials.......and I Do Mean.... "BARE". The latest BIOS upgrade also has no Sata option. Why they did not offer at least this choice of downgrading to XP is beyond me. LENOVO..... I'm not impressed with your notebook.  As usual.... Microsoft has all vendors jumping to their tune..... Nothing but "VISTA" at this point in time. What if you hate it??????
    2) I have hunted all over the Lenovo Web Site for a "SATA DRIVER" that would work with a 3000 N100 Notebook, no such critter exists.  LENOVO..... Couldn't you have at least offered this????  I'M NOT IMPRESSED.
Has anyone been able to downgrade to Windows XP successfully on a 3000 N100 Series Notebook??? How Did You Do It?? Has Anyone Located A "SATA DRIVER" That Works???  IF So, Please Explain To Me Step-By-Step How I Can Get Rid of Vista and Load XP.
    Help........Help.......Help........Help......Help!!!!!!!!!!!
    Regards

Hello Himleung. Thank you for answering this message. Where did you find a "Sata Hard Drive Driver" that works?? Perhaps you could pass that along to this message forum in case someone else that has a 3000 N100 (may also work with the N200 series) Notebook wants to downgrade from Vista to Windows XP.
This is what baffles me to no end. The Lenovo web site has every driver you need to load Windows XP on the notebook.....**EXCEPT**..... the Sata HD Driver......**OR**...... the ability in BIOS to change to "compatability mode".  Duh!!!..... whats wrong with this story. I have never seen such a weak BIOS as the one in the 3000 N100. If I had known this I probably would have gone to another brand. They should have advertised this notebook as...... "Non-Geek Compatible".
Not knowing exactly how you could forward the driver to me I did the following....... I created a new Web email location that you could use to send the driver as an email attachment. The address is....... [email protected] This address will exist just long enough to obtain the driver..... and then......"Hasta-La-Vista" baby......end of story......as I do not want to be bombarded with ads, trash, or perhaps a virus of some sort..... although.....I'm SURE we have GREAT PEOPLE on this message center.
I'm not familiar with the "NLITE" program you mentioned. Again....perhaps you could mention where I can get it and what I need to do to set the program up to run the driver.
    Thanks again, Himleung.

  • Downgrade from Windows 8 to 7 on Satellite S75D-A7272, is it possible with this crazy system?

I have recently purchased a Satellite laptop and it came with Windows 8 preinstalled and I would like to replace or downgrade to Windows 7. My model is Toshiba Satellite S75D-A7272 and has an AMD A10-5750M APU with Radeon HD graphics motherboard, with 2.5GHz CPU speed and 8 GB RAM.  1TB hard drive with EUFI BIOS and GPT partitions.  64-bit operating system and this model has both windows 8 and 7 drivers at the support page. Can someone please tell me how to install successfully windows 7.  I have done lots of research but I don't understand the "flash the BIOS" part I read about concerning my setup.  Can I get some directions for dummies please?

To see if your bios can be changed to run window 7 follow these instructions:
Restart computer and hold f2 when the screen goes black and wait for the bios setup utility to launch.
Select advanced, then system configuration, then boot mode
see if you have option for UEFI and CSM  (UEFI for Windows 8 and CSM for windows 7)
If you have CSM option that is what is used for windows 7.
Also in bios setup utility select Security, then Secure Boot, then you have to disable secure boot for windows 7
I am not familiar with flash bios or drivers on this model
    Edited:
Jerry - is right not much there for windows 7 drivers

  • How do I downgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 7 on my x240?

I have a new Thinkpad x240 that came with Windows 8.  I hate it.  It makes doing what I bought the machine for more difficult than it is in Windows 7.  I want to downgrade (in my opinion, it is an upgrade, but never mind).  How do I do this?  There is lots of advice on "how to" with other systems but I don't want to assume the same exact steps apply as I don't have the technical know-how to get myself out of trouble if something doesn't work as expected.  Can anyone point me in the right direction to find what I need to do?  Thanks!

You can't. You can only install the current version of iOS. Downgrading is not supported.

  • HP m6-1225dx downgrade from Windows 8 to 7

    Hi everyone,
I just purchased a ENVY m6-1225dx that came with Win8 and I'm trying to downgrade to Win7 but not having any success. I formatted the HDD and doing a clean install. The setup completes almost all the steps successfully but then gives me an error at the end saying "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation". This message is different than one I was getting previously that said something along the lines of Windows could not be installed on this hardware. I called HP and the technician and manager were both no help at all. They didn't even want to answer a single question and straight away told me that I should contact Microsoft because it's not HP's problem. Can anyone please help me resolve this? It will be greatly appreciated!

  • How do I downgrade from Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 for my wife , me and my office

how do I downgrade from Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 for my wife , me and my office

You cannot downgrade a machine that shipped with 10.7 installed. Such a machine can only run 10.7 or later. As for the older machines, you would need to use the old Mac OS X install disks to erase the hard drive and reinstall the system.
I don't really understand the issue regarding minimizing windows. If the difficulty is that you want to use the green "+" button in the iTunes window's title bar to resize the window rather than toggling between the full window and the simplified window with only play controls, that is not unique to Lion. That has behaved the same way for some time. Try option-clicking on the "+" button.

The "downgrade" will not be free. You will have to buy Windows7 or have a real licensed copy available.

    Hi,
Like Carey said, you need to format the whole drive and do a clean install. The most important is don't forget do a backup in an external hard drive. You will be need to restore it after roll back to Windows 7.

    Hi:
Looking at the hardware specs for your model you should be able to use all of the W7 x64 drivers and software from the HP Probook 450 G2 on your model except the BIOS and firmware files.
Your model uses the Intel HD graphics driver and the Realtek RTL8188EE wireless card driver.

Office for Mac, http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products, can open/edit/create Office documents. If your external drive is formatted NTFS then you can copy the Office documents to your computer and work on them. You won't be able to save the files back to your NTFS formatted drive. But you will be able to save the documents to your internal drive. You can move all the external files to your internal drive then format the external drive for Apple. Then you can copy the files back to your external drive for ongoing use.
