How do I downgrade iTunes 10.5 to 10.4?

I installed the iTunes 10.5 Beta and I'd like to downgrade it to 10.4. Is it the same way as if I was downgrading it to 10.3?

If you have the old installer, you can uninstall 10.5 and reinstall 10.4.  You then need to revert your ITunes library. Details here : https://discussions.apple.com/message/16357855#16357855

How do I downgrade itunes 10.4 to 10.3

I just managed to downgrade from ITunes 10.5 to 10.4 w/o using Time Machine.  Typically I have Time Machine backups, but I just downgraded from OS X Lion too, and was still trying to get my MacBook fine tuned again before doing a fresh backup again.
So it was a long shot, but here's what I tried and it worked perfect.  It also might appear to be difficult, but as long as you can cut/paste and know a little about file folders, this won't take more than 5 minutes.
    1. I removed the entire itunes folder from the "Music" folder and copied it to the desktop.
    (Macintosh HD/users/<yourname>/Music/iTunes)
    2. I downloaded iTunes 10.4 and did a fresh install.  I restarted the application, which recreated the iTunes folder (and files) back in the "Music" folder.  Then quit the application completely.
    3. I went to the original iTunes folder that I copied to the desktop, and deleted the most recent file from the iTunes library.  For the purpose of this illustration...I had several, but my latest was "iTunes Library 2011-08-16.itl".
    (Desktop/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries/iTunes Library 2011-08-16.itl)
    4. Now cut/paste the "original" file from desktop back into the iTunes folder you've just recreated.  When it prompts you to overwrite the existing files, reply "YES" to all, and let the folder finish.
    5. Your Done!  Now open iTunes again...all your files and playlists, will be there.
The reason I downgraded, was the new iTunes 10.5, wouldn't collapse on my MacBook so I could see all playlists and detailed song info.  It basically opened up "full screen", but only allowed me to scroll through song files, but not playlists, etc.
I hope this helps somebody...I was really struggling because of the size of my music library (24,000+), and really didn't want to begin with a fresh install, and recreating my playlists from scratch.
    Good Luck!

  • How can to downgrade iTune 11 to version 10 ? thanks

Hello and happy new year to all of you !
    I have a Mac with 10.6.8 but iTune 11: how can I downgrade iTune 11 to version 10 ?
Many thanks to all Apple fans.
    Bernyhell

MattiP is right, I tested it, and the problem seems to occur only if there are special characters used in the filename (which was no problem with the previous version of the Adobe Reader for WP7); unfortunately, having special characters in the filename is very likely in German ...

  • How do I downgrade itunes?

I do not like the new iTunes layout.  One big issue is songs will not play song to song regardless of album under anything but the "Songs" category.  There have been a number of times that I just let the music play and go from album to album.  Now it will do it in the Songs category but finding the song I want to start on is like finding a needle in a haystack.  I miss my ability to flip through albums and look for the album cover.  Until this feature is restored, I'd like to just downgrade to the older version that seems just better in my opinion.  And yes Apple...I hope you're reading this and understand I think you were making upgrades for the sake of upgrades.  Cuz I think iTunes 11 *****!

  • How to downgrade iTunes 12 to 11.4?

I recently upgraded iTunes to 12.0.1 and want to downgrade back to 11.4. I run the 11.4 installer and it says "A newer version of iTunes is already installed." So I use the terminal to delete it (sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/) and also trash the preferences as well as Library/Caches/com.apple.iTunes. Now I'm able to run the 11.4 installer, but when I launch iTunes, I get an error: "A required iTunes component is not installed. Please reinstall iTunes (-42401)." Any ideas on how I can successfully downgrade iTunes to 11.4?
It needs to be 11.4 since I share my iTunes library between two macs via file sharing, and one of them is an older mac which is unable to upgrade to version 12.
    Any help appreciated! Thanks

    1) Open Terminal and run:
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app
This will delete the iTunes 12 application.
    2) If your Music Library is in its default place, also in the terminal:
      open ~/Music/iTunes
    3) Using Time Machine restore the following files:
    Album Artwork   <– Folder
    iTunes Library
    iTunes Library Extras.itdb
    iTunes Library Genius.itdb
    iTunes Library.xml
    iTunes Library.itl
    iTunes Music Library.xml
    Previous iTunes Libraries  <– Folder
No need to replace your iTunes Music Folder. You may not need to replace all these files but it can’t hurt.
    4) Back in the terminal:
    open /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
Use Time Machine again to restore the following files:
    AirTrafficHost.framework
    CoreADI.framework
    CoreFP.framework
    DeviceLink.framework
    iTunesAccess.framework
    MobileDevice.framework
    5) Using Time Machine restore iTunes 11.4

  • How do I downgrade my itunes to 10.3

My 1st generation ipod does not accept applications and I cannot access my itunes on it either.  I found out I need to upgrade it to iOs 3.1.1 software and I found the link to do this.  Unfortunately it comes up with an error code of 8288 and won't do anything further.
We did some digging and found out we need to 'downgrade' our iTunes to 10.3 and then it will let us 'upgrade' our ipod to the iOs 3.1.1

    Please help!!

I too had the same issue. This is how I resolved it http://www.parkhi.net/2011/12/error-8288-ipod-touch-upgrade-ios-31.html

  • Hi there, how do you downgrade to a previous iTunes version on a Mac?

Hi there, how do you downgrade to a previous iTunes version on a Mac?

What exactly do we repair permissions of inn disk utility?
    OK. The easy explanation:
Mac OS X is a UNIX based operating system and like all other UNIX operating systems, its usage is controlled by permissions. Which user has some, all or no permission to read, write to and otherwise modify files and folders. Applications also have or do not have certain permissions.
In Mac OS X "Library" folder is a sub folder called "Receipts". When software is installed using Apple's Installer application it deposits a .pkg file in Receipts, containing information about the software and what it's permissions should be.
If for some reason those permissions are corrupted or changed to something they should not be, using Disk Utility to repair permissions compares what the current permissions are with the information contained in the .pkg files. Should Disk Utility find differences, it uses the information to correct those permissions.
Disk Utility does not repair permissions on applications that are installed via another routine, such as a custom installer or drag and drop. Neither does it repair permissions on any files or folders that you create.

  • How will downgrading itunes affect my iphone?

I am totally frustrated with itunes at this point. I loved having my artwork in the sidebar in song view mode (including the little arrows to see multiple artworks).
Every version since then seems to downgrade this feature. I would like to go back to when that worked the way that I liked it. I believe the last version to have this (With the little arrows) was 10.4.1? Can anyone confirm that?
I have been able to find lots of info on how to downgrade itunes, but my concern is how will this affect my iphone 4. Will I still be able to update my phone? Or will itunes want me to update itunes before I can update my phone?
    Thank you for your help,
    Eric

There was nothing in ios6 that I really cared about.
What ios would I have to downgrade to to make it sync with 10.4?

If I downgrade both itunes and ios, and don't do any new updates, everything will work happily together?

  • How do you downgrade from itunes 10 to itunes 9?

Hi guys. I was wondering if there is a way to downgrade from itunes 10 to itunes 9. When I downloaded itunes 9 and tried to install it, it said that it couldn't install because there is a newer version of itunes already on my machine. Any help would be nice.

  • How can I downgrade from iTunes 10.5 to 10.4

How can I downgrade from iTunes 10.5 to 10.4?

Thanks for your support, but I changed the TimeZone (both PC and Iphone 3GS on Istanbul GMT+2) and the problem is still there. I updated also Itunes 10.5.1, same problem. I can't syncronize or update the IOS on the phone. I'm afraid I'll have to try the complete reset to factory of the Iphone (I'm afraid sync data on the iphone has been corrupted and Itunes can't sync).
Any advice on how to save all my data, since backup function does not work because it needs the sync feature?
    thanks

  • How do I "downgrade" from iTunes 10 to iTunes 9?

How do I "downgrade" from iTunes 10 to iTunes 9 without having to uninstall and reload all of my music. The new iTunes 10 interface is hideous and bland. I can't stand looking at it anymore. iTunes 9 was much nicer. I have about 200 GB of music so i would really like to avoid having to add everything into a fresh/new library.

    you could try this: http://appletoolbox.com/2010/09/how-to-downgrade-itunes-10-to-itunes-9-2-1/.

  • How can i downgrade from itunes 10.5.3 to 10.5.1

Since upgrading from iTunes 10.5.2 to v.10.5.3 I have had problems with a stuttering or halting of sound, as if I were streaming music with a slow internet connection. How can I downgrade to the previous version?

Very difficult.  I don't know about the version change you did but often versions may irreversibly upgrade the library file.  You would have to start from scratch unless you happen to have saved a previous copy of the file.
Another problem is getting hold of an older version.  Unless you saved a copy of 10.5.2 you will likely find it no longer exists on Apple's web site.
Did you clone your hard drive and do a complete backup before installing new software as is advisable?

  • How do I downgrade to iTunes 11.4?

So, I made the mistake of updating to iOS 8 the other day, and when I went to sync my iPhone today, discovered that iTunes 11.1.3 (Mountain Lion, 10.8.5) won't let me sync my music because I'm running iOS 8.  I DO NOT LIKE ITUNES 12.  It's a visual nightmare.  I feel completely trapped now because I can't sync any new music or movies to my phone without updating iTunes, and I like it fine the way it is.
What are my options? Updating to iTunes 12 just to be able to use my phone, and then somehow downgrading to iTunes 11.4? Is that even possible? I figure at this point it's impossible to downgrade from iOS 8 to iOS 7.  I like iOS 8, just not iTunes 12.
I'm not sure if I'm the only one who missed the little fine print that said you need iTunes 11.4 or later.  Any articles, links, suggestions?

Follow this linkHow to downgrade iTunes 12 to 11.4? Be sure to remove iTune 12 library first before you install...I am going through that right now and wish I had done that.
iTune is a sick app even since 11.4 like changing the Internet radio when it feels and it got worst with 12...auto launching and if playing the window keeps popping out Dock when minimized.

  • How do I remove iTunes 11 and go back to iTunes 10?

I truly dislike iTunes 11, for reasons I won't bore you with. How do I remove it and go back to iTunes 10?
    Thank you!

    =Downgrading from iTunes 11 to iTunes 10.7=
Try activating the sidebar, menu bar, and status bar and see if this is close enough to the previous version to make you content.  It is easier than downgrading and eventually you will be forced to run a newer iTunes unless you have an endless supply of the model computer you currently own.
You may be able to go back with Time Machine but this may involve restoring other items too (https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441404).  Alternatively:
Back up your computer first, in case the unexpected happens.
    Quit iTunes.
Get iTunes 10.7 from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1576 or the direct download link at:  http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg
Do a few preparatory steps by making sure all iTunes components are not running and cleaning old files.   See https://discussions.apple.com/message/20475394.  Do steps 3 and 4.  Steps 6-8 may be also useful but I don't know if they are essential.  Some of the other steps are not necessary, duplicate steps listed later in my post or are perhaps even unhelpful in the process.
Replace the iTunes 11 application with iTunes 10.7.  Simply dragging the application to the trash may not work. Lion (OSX 10.7) and newer systems have iTunes integrated into the operating system and deleting is a bit more involved.  Two ways to do this are:
    1.  (Easier) Use the shareware Pacifist utility (http://www.charlessoft.com/) to install iTunes 10.7 including all associated system files. Details at http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=16400819&postcount=6
    2. (More work) Check this reference on how to delete the iTunes application itself:
Delete iTunes in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion - http://osxdaily.com/2011/09/13/delete-itunes-in-mac-os-x-10-7-lion/
After deleting the application there may be other files that need downgrading too. See the note about error -42408 at the end of this post. You may want to tuck these away somewhere safe until you have completed the installation of iTunes 10.7.  I have not tested this but ideally if newer versions are not found then the installer will put in the old versions. This may include these files in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ which apparently get updated by iTunes 11:
    AirTrafficHost.framework
    CoreFP.framework
    DeviceLink.framework
    iTunesAccess.framework
    MobileDevice.framework
After doing one of the two procedures above you will have to rescue the most recent old iTunes library from your iTunes > Previous Libraries folder. Rename it "iTunes Library.itl"  and replace the existing one in the iTunes folder. A newer version of iTunes irreversibly updates your library file so you have to replace it with the old one or you will get an error message. Note, this will revert your library to the version at the time of the upgrade and you will have to update any changes made since.  See:

Alternatively, check https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441424 which requires you have a Time Machine backup (though possibly if you remove the newer version of these files old ones may be installed with the iTunes 10.7 installer - untested).  A  variant of this is at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20448184
