  • How to put Download Links on a Jsp Page?

    Hi,
    I am a student and I am working as an intern. This is my question:
    My boss wants me to put some download links(pdf and flash files) on to a jsp page. when a user clicks on the link, all the user info (i.e. name, filename, download time etc) should be stored in a database and then a pop up should appear asking user where you want to download the file.
    I have done most of the part but there is a problem. when a user "left click" on the link then it opens the PDF file in the browser. but if the user "right click and select save target as" then it brings up the box. My boss dont need the user to VIEW the file by left clicking it. I mean on both clicks a pop-up box should appear.
    one more thing to note is that, the PDF are not on the same server. I mean they do not have the same context path.
    Here is what I am doing:
    on the link page:
    sample
    on the other page (which stores information):
    // ... this is downloadfile.jsp
    response.setContentType("application/force-download");
    String filename = request.getParameter("file");
    String path = "http://www.domain.com/pdf/" + filename;
    bean.addDownloadDetails(session.getAttribute("email").toString(), filename, request.getRemoteAddr());  // save info in database
    response.sendRedirect(path);
    // ...any ideas or help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Straight to the question in the topic title: just use <a> links. But you already found that out. In the future please invent clear topic title covering the actual problem :)

    Thanks.Better obtain its InputStream by java.net.URLConnection and write it to the OutputStream of the HttpServletResponse. A redirect would create a brand new request, hereby dropping the current request and the response (so setting the content type makes really no sense).
    You can find some pointers in this FileServlet example: [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2007/07/fileservlet.html].

  • How do i use Connection pool in JSP pages

    Hey everyone,
    I am using a connection pool in my web application. I am using DbConnectionBroker from Javaexchange.com. It has a class that creates a connection pool available for the servlets. I am trying to figure out that how to use connection pool within the JSP pages if I want to connect to the database. In the servlets i am using DBConnectionBroker pool = (DbConnectionBroker) getServletContext().getAttribute("dbPool") to get database connection. How Can i use this in JSP page to get a db connection.
    Thanks

    If the reference to the connection pool is already stored as an ServletContex attribute, try:
    <jsp:useBean id="dbPool" scope="application" class="com.javaexchange.dbConnectionBroker" />
    <%
    Connection con = dbPool.getConnection();
    %>

  • How to call a report from a jsp page

    Hi
    1) Can anyone please tell me how can i view Discoverer report from a jsp page instead of opening it directly thru plus/viewer.
    2) Please clarify do i need to install Infrastructure and OID for it.
    Please advice.
    Thanks

    You need the AS infrastructure if you want to use connections. If you do not intend using connections, you do not require the infrastructure.
    Note that you cannot pass in passwords in the URL any longer. You do not need to pass passwords if you pass in a Discoverer connection id (but then again - if you don't use connections, then you do need to still pass in the connection information - username, password, database, language, EUL)
    I have a post on my blog that describes how to pass a password using an HTML Form submit - http://oraclebi.blogspot.com/2005/08/passing-password-to-viewer.html

  • How to save your position in a JSP page on submit

    I am building a web application based on JSP pages and servlets. One of the JSP pages is larger than the screen, so i have to scroll down. On the lower part of the page, i have a control that submits a form to a servlet that performs some logic and then returns to the same JSP page. When the JSP page is redisplayed, it is positioned at its top position again. I would like to save my positioning on the page and return to the exact same scroll position. How is this easiest done?

    Just use an onclick or onsubmit event to get the current scroll position using JS and send it along the request to the server side and let it set the value in an onload event of the page which comes with the response.
    I am not going to give you JS+DOM codes here. Just learn it and if necessary ask help at the appropriate forum. There are JS and DOM tutorials at w3schools.com and there are clientside development forums at webdeveloper.com and dynamicdrive.com.

  • How to set an 'alias' for a JSP page in web.xml

    Hi
    Suppose I have a JSP page called SimplePage.jsp and I want to refer to it by someother name while running the application how do I do this in the web.xml file. I have used <servlet-mapping> to do this in the case of a servlet. However I am not sure how to do this with a JSP
    Could somebody show me how to do this. I would be very much grateful.
    All help appreciated and acknowledged.
    thanks in advance

    It worked. The correct web.xml version is as below:

    I have other jps files too.I am going to try and put aliases for them and see how they perform.
    I hope I have not spoken too soon by saying that the aliases work. Let me wait and watch with bated breath.
    But thanks a lot for your suggestions without which this would not have been possible

  • How to use ShowValue within a UIX/JSP page to display an active link?

    I am storing URL's in the DB and want to display them as active links on a UIX/JSP page. I thought that I had this working some time ago, but now it no longer works.
    Using <bc4juix:RenderValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="myTextField" /> will display "http://www.otn.oracle.com" as an inactive link using UIX/XML which is expected.
    Using <jbo:ShowValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="myTextField" /> will display an active link using if using BC4J/JSP, which is expected.
    However, I have not been able to do this using a UIX/JSP page.
    Is it possible to use ShowValue within a UIX/JSP page to display an active link?
    Thanks,
    Bill G

    Hi Juan,
    I've done the following and it does not work for me;
    --- snip ---
    <uix:form name="form1" method="GET">
    <bc4juix:Table datasource="ds1" >
    <uix:columnHeaderStamp>
    <uix:styledText textBinding="LABEL"/>
    </uix:columnHeaderStamp>
    <%--
    <jbo:AttributeIterate id="dsAttributes" datasource="ds1" hideattributes="UixShowHide">
    <bc4juix:RenderValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="<%=dsAttributes.getName()%>" />
    </jbo:AttributeIterate>
    --%>
    <bc4juix:RenderValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="FacilityDesc" />
    <bc4juix:RenderValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="LocationId" />
    <bc4juix:RenderValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="LocationDesc" />
    <%-- ** THE FOLLOWING DOES NOT DISPLAY ON THE BROWSE_EDIT_PAGE ** --%>
    <jbo:ShowValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="Notes" ></jbo:ShowValue>
    <%-- ** THE FOLLOWING DOES NOT DISPLAY ON THE BROWSE_EDIT_PAGE ** --%>
    <uix:rawText>
    <jbo:ShowValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="Notes" ></jbo:ShowValue>
    </uix:rawText>
    <%-- ** THE FOLLOWING DOES NOT DISPLAY ON THE BROWSE_EDIT_PAGE ** --%>
    <uix:contents>
    <uix:rawText>
    <jbo:ShowValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="Notes" ></jbo:ShowValue>
    </uix:rawText>
    </uix:contents>
    --- snip ---

    Hi i am doing a project which involves data retrival from a Swipe card. I am going to retrive the id from the card and this data has to be sent to a JSP page.
