How do I drag files in Finder to a different folder?

How do I drag files in Finder to a different folder?

First, open one Finder window, and then, open another one pressing Command and N keys.
On one window, go to the folder where the files are, and on the other one, go to the folder where you want to put your files. Choose them with the Command key (or select all if you want to transfer all of them, with Command and A keys) and drag them to the other Finder window

  • Can't drag files from Organizer 13 to different folder

I recently installed PSE13 on my PC running Windows 8.1.  I've also downloaded the latest update and even the patch which corrected the mouse scrolling problem. Now I have a new problem. When I'm in the Organizer, I am no longer able to drag files to a different folder. For instance, I have a folder on my desktop which contains the pictures and videos I downloaded from my camera. I am able to see these files within the organizer, and the organizer clearly shows that the files are contained within the folder on my desktop. What I want to do within the organizer is to move these files by dragging them to my Pictures folder. The program will no longer allow me to accomplish this task. I use to be able to do this with no problem, but not anymore!!  Is there a fix for this problem???  Thanks!  Jeff

No, there is no error message. Your second question, asking if I first selected thumbnails, etc., prompted me to go back to the organizer to review exactly what happens when I try to select and drag a file to a new folder. And, because of your question, I have discovered new results: the first time I tried to select a picture, the normal hand appeared, but when I attempted to drag the file to a folder, all I got was the hand drawing a dotted rectangular box, and I could not drag the file to any folder. I tried this two more times with the same result. Then, I discovered that if I click on the far right side of the file thumbnail, I could actually drag it to a different folder. So, now I know precisely where to click on a thumbnail in order to successfully drag it to a folder. However, in previous versions, I could click anywhere on the thumbnail and drag without any problems. So, I will consider this problem "mostly" solved, and hopefully Adobe will address this problem on a future update. Thanks for your help!! Jeff

  • Two finger scrolling while dragging files in finder

    Hi guys.
I'm new to this forum but have used it in the past so I'll start by saying thank you for all the people who post on here.
Now for my query, and this one is driving me nuts because it seems like such a simple thing that is either missing or I can't figure out how to use for the life of me.
I know while dragging files in finder when you take them near to the bottom or top of the window it will scroll up or down. The problem is the area on which you have to move you mouse is about 5 mm big and if you go too far it stops scrolling etc. It's very clumsy. It amazed me that while dragging a file I could not still two-finger scroll, which would mean that you could control the speed. It would also be a lot more efficient.
I have searched countless forums and through google but cannot find an answer. If anyone can tell me how to two-finger scroll while dragging files please help me?! Or if there are any plug-ins that have more customisability that could allow it.
Thanks in advance for you help!

It is not possible to two-finger scroll while dragging.

  • Aperture 3.1.2 When exporting files to Finder is creating a folder for each file, that means export 200 files is creating 200 folders for each files. Does anyone knows how to fix this. Thanks

Aperture 3.1.2 When exporting files to Finder is creating a folder for each file, that means export 200 files is creating 200 folders for each files. Does anyone knows how to fix this. Thanks

No. This is NOT true. I've been battling with this for a couple hours.
    I choose Export>Versions
    choose
    Subfolder Format: Project Name
    no custom subfolder
    Name Format: Current Version Name.
Aperture creates project folders for each image and names them Projects1, Projects2, Projects3 etc.
To be sure, I have no project named Projects
    x
This particular Aperture library has 16 projects. you can see in the screen grab it's created more than 30 folders
If I uncheck the Subfolder, that is say NONE, I just get images and images and images, not in their project folders (of course, because I've said NONE, so why would it put them in project folders?)
I just want to export the entire library and have the versions placed in folders named by the projects from which they came.... ez enough, no?

  • Its urgent  how to use calss file of jar located in lib folder

how to use calss file of jar located in lib folder.
i want to use RowSetDynaClass class which is in beanutil jar file which is in my lib folder .if i use that class in my jsp following error is coming.
    Class RowSetDynaClass not found.
    RowSetDynaClass resultSet = new RowSetDynaClass(rs, false);
how to access class in jar file.
    please help

You have to either refer to the class in its fully quallified name, or import it into the JSP:
    <%
      some.full.packagename.RowSetDynaClass resultSet = new some.full.packagename.RowSetDynaClass(rs,false);
      ...-or-
    <%@ page import="some.full.packagename.RowSetDynaClass" %>
    <%
      RowSetDynaClass resultSet = new RowSetDynaClass(rs, false);
...As long as the class has public visibility and you have re-started the server/servlet context since you added the JAR.

How can I make an external link (to a different folder) from the main menu?

If the folder is outside the Muse page, you will have to insert manual HTML to define a more complex URL like e.g. ../_stuff for going one level up and then into a folder called "_stuff" The deeper you are in the hierarchy, the more ../ you will have to add to climb up.

  • How can I drag files from my macbook to my external hard drive?

Hi! I can't seem to drag files to my hard drive using my macbook pro? How can I do that?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
What happens when you try to drag a file to the external drive? If it just doesn't copy, it's because the external drive is formatted in NTFS, and OS X can't write in NTFS hard drives. There are some solutions:
    1. Buy a third-party application like Paragon NTFS, which will allow you to write in your external drive.
    2. Format the external drive with exFAT or FAT32, so you will be able to use the external drive with PCs and Macs.
If you choose the last one, copy all the data from the external drive to a Mac or PC before erasing the disk. I recommend you to use exFAT because it hasn't got the limitation of files bigger than 4 GB, so you have to format the external drive on a PC. That's because, if you do it in the Mac, PCs won't recognize it

  • Dragging files cause finder to crash and restart

I've noticed when I'm moving files either from a folder to attach on a e-mail or moving files from one folder to another finder crashes and immediately restarts. I can then move the files no problem until I move on to another task and come back to move a file.
I can copy or cut and paste files fine it just seems to be a problem when you begin dragging the file.

I have the same problem, had Total Finder installed thinking it was the problem. Now with a fresh install its the same.
It happens when i haven't used Finder for a while, trying to move a file and Finder just restarts.
I also happens when my LaCie USB 3.0 discs is starting up from sleep.
Looking in the activity log errors i see:
    21/10/14 11:33:47,859 ReportCrash[6730]:
    com.apple.message.domain: com.apple.crashreporter.writereport.crash
    com.apple.message.signature: Finder
    com.apple.message.signature2: com.apple.finder ||| 10.10 (10.10)
    So lost for clues.
Was no problem under Developer versions nor the GM3.

  • How do you drag files into folders on the new mountain lion?

When i select the file i want to drag into a folder, it drags normally but i can not place it in the new folder.  nothing fancy just rying to move pictures into the same folder.
    Thanks

    Hi there...
    I'm in the same boat.
I clean installed Mountain Lion no problems, everything seems to be a little quicker even... .a bonus.
But then I stumbled across something.
I am unable to move or drag files around.
Let's say I have a file jpg in the desktop, and I want to move it to the pictures folder... Normally I would just hold down the trackpad, and physically move it in to the open pictures finder... but it just will not move.  I can select it, open it, rename it, everything... but I just cannot drag anything anywhere.
Lets say the jpg on my desktop needs work and I want to open it in Photoshop.  I have the Photoshop icon in my Dock, and for years have simply dragged whatever jpg onto the PHotoshop icon in the Dock to open it.. .but now I can't.
At the moment I am copy/pasting everything, which is time consuming and sooo annoying you have no idea.
I just wanted to move a AVI from my downloads to the desktop.  I had to copy, paste, then delete from downloads... ***?!?!
Am I the only one experiencing this problem??
    Please let me know.

  • How to get a file to be read as a folder/package?

I have several .sf2 files, and the problem is in order for my various music programs to access them, it needs to get into the contents of the .sf2 file (which is really a folder/package) and recognizes it as the end of the directory line. How can I get OS X to recognize (or is there any software that does) the type of file is a package or a folder?
    Thanks for any help,

    Thanks for any help,
With many files similar the one you describe, by right-clicking you get a menu item that allows you to view the contents of the "file." It may depend on how the file/folder is created.

  • How to delete hidden files that I uploaded to Download folder

I read posts on delete but am concerned I'll mess something up - I have never used Terminal and am hoping there's an easier way.
I recently switched from Windows to Mac for my development computer.
I wanted to edit an .htaccess file for a web site I downloaded it to the downloads folder and of course, because it has a dot as the first character it turns out I can delete it. I was able to edit the htaccess file with Fetch, saved it to a web dev folder and upload it. But I still have an .htaccess file in my Download folder that I would like to remove.
What is the easiest way to do this?
    Thank you!

The easiest way is to tell Finder to show hidden files. Open Terminal and copy this to Terminal window:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE && killall Finder
Then, go to Downloads folder and delete the file. Finally, return to Terminal and copy the same text but replacing TRUE for FALSE.
Alternatively, if you know the name of the file, you can move to Downloads folder in Terminal with the cd command and use the rm command to delete the file, but it's dangerous. Don't do it unless you are sure what you are doing, and make a backup

  • How to replace a file in Finder

I am trying to back up my iPhoto library, which lives in an external hard drive (My Passport) to my Seagate external hard drive. Usually, I can go in Finder and drag and drop the most recent Library over-top of the backup. A pop-up will appear asking if I want to replace the existing file (yes) and the backup takes like 5 or 6 hours... I have 300 GB of pics.
With OS X Yosemite, when I drag the file and drop it in the backup hard drive, it doesn't recognize that there is already a file with the same name, so it tries to make room to add the new library, when in reality I want it to replace the existing (outdated) backup.
I downloaded this for the Seagate external, which hasn't proved useful http://www.seagate.com/support/external-hard-drives/desktop-hard-drives/backup-p lus-desk/ntfs-driver-for-mac-os-master-dl/
and I tried holding down Option, and Command, then dragging... nope. I can't figure out how to get it to replace, or merge, the files. It just tries to keep putting it in as a separate file.
    Please help!

OS X cannot write to an NTFS formatted drive. Whatever driver you got from Seagate probably doesn't work with the version of OS X you have. Is there any reason you could not reconfigure the drive for OS X? If you can the first thing you will need to do is to reformat that drive to MSDOS (FAT.) It's best to do that on a PC, but you can try reformatting it on your Mac using Disk Utility and setting the Format type to MSDOS. It may take a couple of tries. Once you get it formatted for FAT, then you can repartition and reformat the drive for OS X.
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
If you are preparing an external or a non-startup drive, then open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
If you need to use the drive on a PC, too, then I suggest using NTFS 12.1.62.

  • How to copy selected files in Finder (applescript)

I don't like to use hotkeys (such as CMD+C, etc.) and would prefer to copy and paste files in OS X with the mouse just like I did in Windows.
Unfortunately Finder has no such copy and paste buttons in its toolbar like I know them from Windows Explorer. It bothers me that I always have to use the context menu or hotkeys. So I intend to write small scripts with AppleScript and move them into the Finder toolbar to have my custom made buttons.
Unfortunately I am newbie to Applescript and did not yet manage to get such simple script to work despite many trials.
The first script must only copy marked/selected files or folders in Finder to the clipboard so that I can paste them into another Finder window.
The second script should simply paste the clipboard content into Finder.
I tried this but nothing is being copied:
    tell application "Finder"
    activate
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
    key down {command}
    keystroke "c"
    key up {command}
    end tell
Would be great if somebody can help me with these few lines.
    Thanks in advance

meanwhile got a reply in another forum that works like charm exactly as I want...I post it here below for future newbies...
    tell application "Finder" activate
    delay 0.2
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "Finder"
    keystroke "c" using command down
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell
save as program and then drag to Finder toolbar.
You can even change the icon.
    Thanks for your attention guys
