How do I dump videos from Sony handycam onto Mac?

Just purchased a Sony Handycam. Seems I am unable to dump video onto my macbook pro.
It's not a new macbook pro, but I upgraded my OS a few months ago to 10.6.8.
Any advice? Though this would be easy. Not so much.

What have you tried, and exactly what happened?

    How do I import video from Sony TRV22E into iMovie ?

    Hi
    Sony TRV22E - CAN ONLY export the VIDEO material via a FireWire Cable (iLinc)
    Then Your Mac need eiter
    - a FireWire port - or -
    - a Thunderbolt port
    if only Thunderbolt - Then You need a FireWire to Thunderbolt converter.
    The USB- can only copy over the Still photos You also cam take with Your Camera. Will NEVER work for Video Export.

  • How do you download video from sony camcorder to imovie

    how do you download video from sony camcorder to imovie.

    First open up Imovie. Then plug the camcorder into the USB port. The computer will search for the camera. It will give a snapshot of what is on there. You can just click on CHECK ALL. It will begin to import. It will also tell you how long it will take. Once it is imported, click DONE. THEN, this is important, drag the snapshots into IMovie on the top to create a new project. You can also click on New Project and name it. When all the pics are in the movie, it will be saved. You can then edit it any way you want. I've done this many times on a Mac. My problem is the internal memory. I have to find out how to get the internal memory videos into my computer. Am currently researching it. BTW, importing from the memory stick is what I did above. Hope this helps.

    Hi ..
    You can use the Image Capture app located in your Applications folder to import vidoe content from the phone to your Mac
    Instructions here >  Using a camera with your Mac - Apple Support
    If you have problems, make sure your Mac's software is up to date.
    Open System Preferences > App Store then click:  Check Now

  • How do I download videos from my ipod onto itunes

    how do i download videos from my ipod onto itunes?

    If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
    For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
    Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
    Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
    Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
    Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
    The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
    If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
    Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
    One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
    Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.

  • Importing video from sony handycam disc

    I am trying to load a DVD created from a Sony handycam and import the video to iMove HD. Does anyone know how to do this or do I need to connect the camera. I have 7 half hour discs that I am trying to combine for my mother. I thought I could do it with the discs but iMove won't recognize the files. Please help!!!

    Hi jay4,
    welcome to the  board
    1) iMovie is a video edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV camcorders
    2) slot-in drives can get damaged by inserting non-standard-size DVDs…
    3) disks have to be finalized first, read your camera's manual…
    4) DVD uses a delivery format, not meant for any further processing as editing…
    5) many options, to import DVDs:
    * DVDxDV (free trial, 25$)
    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (20$) + Streamclip (free)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * Toast6/7 allows converting to dv/import dvd, hit apple-k

  • Importing a Video from Sony Handycam

    I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 / Premier Elements 8.0, and when I've been importing videos from my Sony Handycam (HDR-CX7), the Adobe software is downloading the entire video, but it seems to be putting an incorrect duration on the video. For example, the imported video is 5 minutes, but it shows up in Elements at 1.5 minutes.  If I start from the front, it will play the first 1.5 minutes. If I scroll to the end, and rewind back 30 seconds, it will play until the 1.5 minute total again. If I watch the video in Windows Media player, it will play the entire 5 minute video.  Anybody have a solve for this, or an explanation on why its happening?

    I'd suggest asking this in the Premiere Elements forum, which is here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere_elements
    There are a lot more video mavens there than here and you'll probably get more responses. Good luck!

  • Getting video from Sony Handycam DVD 403

    Hello everyone.
    I'm hoping somebody has experience getting video from a Sony Handycam DVD 403 into iMovie6. I'm having troubles getting what I expect to happen to actually happen.
    I hooked up my Handycam to my PowerBook which the OS recognized as a DVD recorder. The disc I had in the camera at the time had about 20 minutes of video stored in a unfinalized state. Finder showed an empty folder.
    I tried entering iMovie and seeing if there were any tools in there that would help me but I couldn't find any. Nothing I did would show me the various clips that made up the 20 minutes of footage.
    I was ultimately able to get the video in a round-a-bout way by Finalizing the disc, extracing the resulting VOB from DVD, converting it to mpeg4 with VideoLAN, and then adding it to my clips in iMovie. However, this has two aspects I don't really care for:
    1) It took a couple of hours to do this. (I wasn't paying attention the whole time, but definately more than 90 minutes and less than 180 minutes).
    2) It made one large mpeg4 file. I would rather have had multiple smaller files that were originally on my camcorder.
    Does anyone have any tips or links to help me get the video straight off of the camcorder and into iMovie without resorting to VideoLAN and mpeg splitters (I haven't tried any mpeg splitters yet, but I'm guessing that is what I need to do to get my video clips into reasonable sizes).

    Thank you for the reply.
    This makes me sad, of course. When I bought the camcorder 6 months ago I had know real idea what I'd be using it for... just knew I wanted to record family gatherings, etc and have a DVD to watch when I was done. If I had planned ahead a bit more I would have got advice from the message boards first.
    Until I can find somebody willing to buy this device from me I guess I will have to make do with the long way around.

  • Importing video from Sony Handycam

    What is the proper workflow for importing video from my Sony DCR SR82 into iMovie '08?
    Anyone do this successfully?

    I just bought a related Sony camera, the DCR-SR220. I am still trying to figure out the optimal way, but have been able to see it on my imac by
    1) installing from Apple Software site Quicktime mpeg-2 playback component (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/) and
    2) installing MPEG Streamclip (www.squared5.com)
    1) Via USB I hook up my camera and it shows up as a harddisk. I then boot Streamclip and open the file(s) I want to open from the camera. This can take substantial time.
    2) Export as a Quicktime file (.mov)
    3) Open up the .mov file in iMovieHD and edit there.
    If you know of any better way, please let me know.
    Best from Jersey.

  • Video from iphone 5 onto mac

    .Does anyone know of any cable or cable combination that would allow me to play video and audio from my iphone 5 onto an imac or a mac pro. I have a lightning to hdmi adapter which works brilliantly into a tv but I would like to watch video from my iphone (with audio) onto various mac screens. These macs do not have apple tvs so it would have to be cables. is it possiblr to do it with usb?
    any help appreciated.

  • Unable to capture video from Sony Handycam

    I am running Premiere CS6 on Win7 Ultimate 64bit. My Handycam is connected via Firewire PCI board. Premiere recognizes the camera, and I am able to use the capture window to move the tape FW and rewind, but when I attempt to play the tape, Premiere bombs and goes to the desktop. I had selected standard capture NTSC since the Handycam isn't HD. I am able to capture the same video without any problems in Vegas and Pinnacle. Is it the settings? Any help would be appreciated!

    I had the earlier PC100 for many years and did occasionally have problems with capture whenever I upgraded my PC (I have built my own for the last 20 years).  Premiere has had issues with certain chipsets on PCI boards for a few years, also the PCI card has to have the correct drivers installed and probably your card let Windows install its own drivers.  The link that Ann posted should have the information to solve your problem, I have looked though it and it uses the same process that I used on my old Win7 PC when a new PCI Firewire card did not work after I fitted it.  If this does not work for you then a new card PCI with Texas chipset may solve your problem

  • How do i save video from mini dvd to mac

    i have connected my sony dvd video recorder to my mac mini and can view the movie but it wont let me save the video to the mac.  Is there a software that i need purchase?  How can this be done sense i can't use a mini dvd with mac cd drive?

    What program is this that you're using to play the video?
    If you can "see" the Sony device on your desktop, you might just open it and locate the movie files there, and drag them to a folder on your Mac to copy them over. But iMovie should be able to import them for you.
