How do i edit a site created with iweb

I created a site last year with iweb, but now when I try to open it, it only lets me create a new site.  I can see the thumbnail in my finder view, but cannot edit it. Help.
Thanks in advance

Try this:
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Editing a site created with Iweb - with another program

    Hello,
I built a website for a friend and he wants to be able to make small changes on it from time to time and I downloaded a WYSIWYG editor and none of them are compatible with sites created with Iweb...
Does anyone have any suggestions? He runs a windows machine.
    Thank you so much!!!

Well, not really. A lot of people have their sites built for them and then, with a little guidance, can change out photos, or do a little editing here and there. So your idea certainly has merit.
The problem is, iWeb is a unique html generator. It stores everything you create in the application in a single file, (Domain.sites2), and only the application itself can open this file for editing. iWeb doesn't even create the html until you publish the site, either to a folder or to an Apple server. iWeb also changes many things into .png files--including text--believe it or not, in a well intentioned effort to cross platform better with other browser applications. So even simple text editors, which would normally be fine for changing small things in most websites, will struggle.
Your idea was a good one; it is iWeb that isn't a good candidate for it.
You must therefore now convince this person to become an Apnewbie, and buy a Mac!

  • Does anyone know how I can edit a site created by another user on my imac?

    Hi,
We are a family new to our imac. One of us created a site with iweb. Now I want to get to the site and edit it? I don't see the site when I start iweb...Can someone provide an answer and any recommendations on how to set up multiple sites so that we can share editing privileges?
    Thanks!
    imac   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    elegantKB,
Welcome to Apple's Discussions area, and congratulations on your new iMac!
Here's what you need to know about creating/sharing websites with the iWeb application; iWeb stores everything you create with the app in a single file, called Domain.sites. It lives on the hard drive of the computer that created it here. If you duplicate/copy this file and move it to another Mac using the same version of iWeb, that machine will open it and you will be able to edit the site. If you configure the second machine to publish to the same .Mac account (assuming you are using .Mac), you can not only edit the site, but you can also publish the same from two separate machines.
You will need to keep track of the latest version of this Domain file if you share it.
Be careful with this file and back it up often. It contains every single page and/or Site that you create with iWeb.
See these notes for more details on how to edit and publish the same iWeb site from two separate machines.

  • How do I delete sites created with iWeb and posted with .mac after a format

I am confused about how to delete a couple of sites that I created with iWeb and posted with my .mac after I did a format reload?
I have tried everything. The original files are not on my MacBook Pro because of the format.
I also see them in my idisc, but I is my understanding that on my MacBook Pro that I can delete the files, but they are hosted online. On the online idisk I cannot delete them because there is no option. Please help!!!

Using the file menu in Finder:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/YourSitesAreHere
Highlight selected files and Command/Delete. You will receive a drop down asking you if you are sure; click OK and the files/sites will be deleted immediately from the iDisk.

  • How to edit  a site made with iWeb?

I made a simple site with pictures with iWeb 08, I would like to edit some text and also to add more pictures, and 'easy' solution would be to add the new pictures edit the text, delete the 'old' site and upload to new one.

Is there an easier way to make changes or add pictures to an already posted website?
    Thanks in advance

    You're in good shape then.
From the file menu in Transmit, use the Preferences tab to customize your upload process: Preferences/Transfers
Let us know how it works out for you...I don't think you will find a better ftp client. There's also a good list of tools for iWeb, including ftp clients, here:

I'd like to see some real life samples and see how they perform.

  • How many website can I create with iWeb?

How many different webpages can I create with iWeb? I just created a site to show friends a slide show from a recent trip, but I need to create another webpage that will have video on it. It would be a totally different subject matter. I do have a .MAC account and not sure if I need to do anything with that so I can have more webpages.
I guess what I am saying is that I am going to need different URL's for the webpages I am going to need to create and want to know how many you can have or create using iWeb.

You can have multiple websites, each with multiple pages depending on the need. To make managing multiple sites easier, take a look at iWebSites. The limiting factor, as was pointed out, is the available space on your iDisk. I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

  • Web already created with iWeb 06, what if I upgrade to iWeb08?

    Hi!,
I'm a bit excited, yesterday I reviewed the new Iweb08 version and most of the features included can make my web life quite easy.
Before to upgrade I would like to have some advice from you guys.
I have a website with my own domain, I bought it through goddady, everything is already uploaded but it would be great to continue this project with the new tools contained on iWeb08.
    - I would like to know if I can transfer my current website to iWeb08 without any troubles and work with it.
    - I would like to know if some of you have experienced already this situation, one website developed with iWeb06,then upgrade to iWeb08. is everything okey?
    - Also, my computer is a Macbook, the cheapest one with 512mb and 1,83 Intel processor, is that enought to run iWeb08?
Any kind of feedback is welcome.
    Thanks in advance
    Kind Regards

    Hi Nathaniel
Thanks for your reply, I read the thread, and I'm a bit scared right now.
I don't want to loose my website (it's been three months working on it!), so thanks for the advice and good luck with your issue. On the other hand I found a solution on the support site.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305944
    It reads like that:
Web ’08: How to maintain redirects for sites created in iWeb 1.x
iWeb sites published to .Mac have a new, simpler URL when republished from iWeb ’08. To be sure that people can still find your site using the old URL, be sure not to delete the folders from your iDisk in /Web/Sites/iWeb. These folders maintain redirects to ensure that iWeb 1.x URLs still work for sites republished from iWeb ’08.
mmm... what?... Excuse my stupidity, but if I buy in the future the new iWeb version, I will have to enable again my own domain name in godaddy?.......I'm getting confused.
I was wondering if you can explain to me, (as you will explain to a child), how to backup your site and upload it again, or where to find this information, just in case I have some future 'accident' with my site.
    Thanks a lot.

Now I want to edit my web using iWeb, but I can´t find the way to open the files to modify and actualize my web, etc...

Felix ~ No, only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
“Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but *there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb*. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.”
If you don't have a backup of your Domain file (e.g. via Time Machine), paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • I am unable to edit a form created with LiveCycle version 8.5 with LiveCycle Version ES1.

I am trying to edit a form created with LiveCycle version 8.08.2073 (installed with Adobe Pro 8).  I am using LiveCycle version ES (installed with Adobe Pro 9).  I can open the fhe form, but the tools are greyed out.  It apears the file is locked for editing, but I cannot determine where/how to unlock it.

You should try to start in safe mode which runs a file check. You hold the shift key down during a start up till there is a progress bar towards thr bottom of the screen. This start will take a longer time than normal. In safe mode try the functioins you are having problems with to see if there is an improvement. Some links below to read.

How do I edit a PDF file with Adobe PDF Pack?

Well, you don't. Editing a PDF is a difficult and fraught business even with the most expensive software.
But PDF Pack lets you export to Word; then often you can edit in Word. Now you can make a new PDF. It might look like the original, or it might not. If small changes matter you might be out of luck. ON NO ACCOUNT USE THIS FOR GOVERNMENT FORMS.

I have adobe xi pro, but i can´t edit a form created with adobe 8.0. The message is: this form can´t be edit with adobe, use adobe livecycle designer. need I to buy another program?

If the form was created using LCD then it can only be edited there. This
application used to be bundled with Acrobat Pro, but that's no longer the
case. So if you want to edit this file then you need to purchase it, yes.
