How do i edit a vertical video in final cut x?

i can't seem to get final cut x to edit in a vertical aspect ratio, is there any way to do this?

You can only edit in standard video formats. You could edit in a standard horizontal format and crop it in another application, but I think there would be some degradation in quality.

  • How Do I Edit iPhone 4 video in Final Cut Express

Every time I import video shot from my iPhone 4 I need to render it out once I place it on my time line. How do I get it to render realtime? I have loaded every sequence present and it doesn't work.
What time line settings should I be using?

Well at least I am not alone. Same result.
    Which MB Pro? Specs?
I was thinking the playing of a QT file is the problem. I think FC has to convert on the fly. It's native format is DV isn't it?
The open timeline may take a bit more horsepower. I have a 7200 rpm internal drive so that's not the issue.
I can play it in the viewer slug though. They drop right into iMove and play fine.
May be iPhone video needs to be run through Compressor or QT Pro for a conversion? That's too bad if true.

  • How to Import and Edit a 60i video to Final Cut ProX

    Hi Final Cut ProX community,
I just recently purchased a Sony HDR - JP650V Camcorder which shoots 24p, 60i and 60p. I've been shooting long video's and the only frames per second I can use is 60i for this specific camcorder.
    Recording mode
    Recording time

    HDR-PJ650V/ PJ650VE

I've been trying to shoot in 60i and then import it to Final Cut Pro X and edit it for YouTube but everytime I import it the inspector tells me it's a 1440x1080 | 29.97 fps. I know I have the camera set to [Long Time ]: 1440 1080/60i quality, AVC HD 5M (LP).
How can I get Final Cut ProX to recognize the 60i fps when importing the video vs the 29.97 fps?
Reading some forms and being new to the video world could this be because of the i stands for "interlacing" which is 30 fps x 2, so FCPX only registers 30 (29.97fps).
    Could that be the issue?

    Brandon,
I also use Sony's HDR-PJ50V camcorder to record seminars at remote locations. These seminars are four days long, with some presentations lasting up to 1.5 hours or more.
Each evening, I back-up the days proceedings to an external hard drive.
I record in the 60i mode as it only takes up half the cameras hard drive space. The photos and videos that I use for my outros are recorded in 60p and appended to the end.
I export video to QT7, process it in Compressor, and send to YouTube. See the excellent link below.
I also drag the QT7 file to Toast for DVD burning.

Also see this YouTube link, especially the the 60p ending.

  • How do I edit a DVD video in Final Cup Pro

    Hey all,
I'm working on a project and I need to take the video on a DVD, bring it in to Final Cut Pro, add titles to it (text) and then output it to be burned back to a DVD.
I can't loose any quality either, so it has to look the same as it does on the original DVD, just now with text.
I've already looked around at other programs but none seem to work.
HanDbreak: This program takes FOREVER to encode the DVD. It said it was going to take 5 hours to rip a 90 min movie. Unacceptable.
ffXMpegX: This program simply doesn't work. When I attempt to press the "encode" button after picking my settings, it tells me to find a specific file before it can continue (?!)
MPEG Streamclip: This is being touted as the best by people on forums, but I find it to be the worst. The GUI is downright confusing as there isn't one! There aren't any options, buttons, settings, drop down menu's, fields or ANYTHING. In fact, this thing looks just like a bad video player. I dragged on dropped a .VOB file in there, it took it and the video appeared but there aren't ANY OPTIONS after that. Am I missing something?
MactheRipper: Okay, so this is alright for ripping the VIDEO_TS folder and that's about it. More or less pointless for what I want to do I guess.
So can anyone please help me? I really need to get this done.
    Thanks

I can't loose any quality either, so it has to look the same as it does on the original DVD, just now with text
Not possible. FCP cannot edit DVD video, it needs to be converted. Conversion means quality loss. Then you edit, and convert AGAIN to DVD...more quality loss.
Want zero quality loss? You need to get a hold of the original material that was used to make the DVD.
MPEG STREAMCLIP...drop the clip in the box...the look in the FILE menu under EXPORT...There are your options. But this won't be zero quality loss. Again, that is not possible.

  • How can I get MPEG-2 video into Final Cut Pro X?

Hello!  I have several MPEG-2 video files on which I need to perform some edits.  When I tried to import them into Final Cut Pro, I learned that Final Cut Pro can't import MPEG files.  Okay, so I went into QuickTime and exported one as 720p.  20 minutes later, I had a video that I could load in FCP.  Awesome.  Except that when I watched the video, the audio was waaaaaaaay out of sync.  So, is there a different way I could get this MPEG-2 video into a format that FCP will like while keeping video and audio together?
I would keep trying a few different things without direction, but these videos are like 90 minutes long and the conversion process is lengthy.
    Thanks!

Although I looked up the equipment, I couldn't find what kind of MPEG2. I'm assuming program stream.
I don't know why you had the sync problem with QT. You could bring it into FCP and detach the audio and manually line it up it's off by a constant amount.
Or you can use MEG Streamclip. You will also need the playback component, which is $20. Follow the instructions on the Squared 5 site to install it. Streamclip is worth having even if you don't use it this time around.
    Good luck.

  • How do I create some black video in Final Cut Pro?

I am new to fcp having moved from premiere how do I create some black video in fcp please
    Thanks
    Derek

Drew's right - and another way is to go to the same "film strip" (generator) to the right bottom corner of the middle box (called the Viewer) and select "Matte" > "color". It is grey by default, but in the viewer under Control you can select black. This way of making black will not lay in audio tracks, only black on the V1 - video track, (unless you have select another video track.

  • Editing Music to Video in Final Cut Pro HD

    Hey all,
Im pretty new to this software so hopefully u guys can help.
I want to stip the music off various types of video but keep dialogue and eventually add my own music. Is this possible using Final Cut? What about Soundtrack? Does it have to be a particular kind of video?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Matt

    Matt,
If the master video source you have contains dialogue overlayed on top of the music (ie: one track) you cannot seperate them at all im afraid, the only way would be if the music track and the dialogue track were a seperate mix which will not be the case with standard VHS/Video 8 or a DVD. You can seperate the Video from the master audio, but thats about it im afraid.
What is your source material from - VHS?

You can unlink the audio and video in the timeline (click the small chain link icon in the top right of the timeline) and delete the video or audio track. Is this what you meant?

  • I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Pro

I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Project that is HD, and tried reconnect media with original HD movies (video), the sequence project got distorted for all the text, shapes used and all.. everything changed its orientation and scale.. Is there a way by which I can preserve my work done on DV PAL and switch it preserving its proportions, scale and orientation, but on a HD project sequence?? Appreciate your help and advice..

Yes.  A couple of ways that might work.
    First Way
What you need to do is load one of your hd clips in the viewer and edit into a new HD sequence.  Does it display correctionly?
OK, select the clip in the hd timeline and copy (command-c).  Now go to the HD sequence with the material that's distorted.  Select all (command-a) and paste attributes (option-v) and choose basic motion and distort.  That should maek things work.  What won't work is anything that you've adjusted as far as basic motion or distort in your PAL sequence.  That I'm pretty sure you'll have to redo.
    Second Way.
Choose your original PAL sequence and do a Media Manage changing the sequence preset to the appropriate HD paramenters with the media offline.  You then should be able to reconnect these clips with your original HD media.

Your media is stored in Final Cut Events folder > "name of event"  > original media. The Final Cut Events folder is in your movies folder or at the root level of an external drive if you are using one to store your media. Simply open iMovie and under file menu select import movies. Navigate to the original media folder and import your clips to Imovie event library.

  • Iam trying to import a short video in final cut express and I'm getting this error... File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown.  How do I solve this problem? The video is on my desktop it's an mpg.

Get a copy of MPEG Streamclip and convert your MPG file to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC).  In FCE, select one of the setups that uses AIC that best matches your clip (say, 1920x1080i60).  Create a new sequence, then import the converted file.
Note that if your MPG file is actually MPEG2 you will also need the QuickTime MPEG2 Component in addition to MPEG Streamclip.
What was the source of the MPG file?  How about if you open it in QuickTime, then do Window > Show Movie Inspector.  Tell us what it says for codec/compression, frame size & frame rate.

    Hi Cereskit
Thanks again for the message. I've done the updates and have the App Store on my desktop. I went into it and searched for imovie but couldn't find the basic imovie, which I presume is what I'd need for editing?, rather than imovie 11 for £10.49, which is for making trailers, it seems. Also, were you saying that imovie would be free?
