How do I edit a WordPress site in Dreamweaver?

I found a pretty good article on how to install WordPress to a localhost and run a site made locally on a test server through Dreamweaver (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_wordpress_pt1.html), but it leaves a lot unanswered. Like...
1. Okay, now I've built a WordPress site locally, how do I upload it to my webserver?
(When I upload it to my ftp, it's broken. I suspect that this is because the scripting is set to work on my localhost MySQL & phpMyAdmin and not my webserver's)
2. If I already have a WordPress site up on my webserver, can I download it to my localhost server so I can edit in Dreamweaver and my local machine, and then upload it later to my webserver?
Thank you everyone! Your help is highly appreciated!

i am only new at dreamweaver...however, i have spent quite some time with Wordpress and Joomla website building.
Plese note... In an effort to explain my thoughts (which if left in their original state...only make sense to me really) i use the term "articles" below very loosely as Wordpress is not just a blogg platform anymore.
The two platforms serve different purposes. Wordpress is a publishing platform...Dreamweaver is a design program. Dreamweaver on its own, would be a very slow and cumbersome way of publishing articles on a Wordpress site. Dreamweaver on its own, is oriented towards creating the entire Wordpress CMS itself...not the "dynamic content" that goes on the Wordpress Site (dynamic meaning published information that is regularly being added/edited/deleted) .
What you really should be asking is, "how can i edit/develop Wordpress themes in Dreamweaver?" Now that, Dreamweaver can do.
Just slightly off topic, have you thought about building your websites using Adobe Muse instead. Its much faster and a lot simpler to use than dreamweaver and a great drag and drop design interface! Almost no coding required. You wold not be using Wordpress of course, and the content isnt dynamic, but Muse is soooo easy to build sites with!
Could i make a suggestion that i myself have undertaken...Purchase a monthly Adobe Creative Cloud plan(to get access to a heap of Adobe CC programs) + $39US/month Lynda.com tutorial package.
Even if you just use the lynda training for a single month only (you only pay by the month as you go)...you will learn an enormous amount about the Dreamweaver, Muse, Wordpress...and a huge number of other programs.
Best money i have spent in Info Tech in a long time
kind regards

  • Downloading and editing an existing WordPress site in Dreamweaver CS5.

    Hello! New to the forums, here.
    I'll try to be brief. I've got a WordPress site in-place at metalmeter.com that is hosted through HostGator. Basically, what I'm looking to do is get the site from the remote server and edit it in Dreamweaver CS5, previewing all changes on a local testing server before putting the updated contents back on the remote server.
    Now, let me be clear: I've tried plenty of the tutorials. I've watched hours of videos. I still can't get it configured properly. I've got the FTP connection to the remote server running smoothly. I've got XAMPP installed. I'm having difficulties (and I apologize for being vague), and I just don't know where the problem is located. In my htdocs folder for XAMPP, I've got two subfolders 'metalmeter' for the remote server's downloaded contents, and 'wordpress' for the wordpress installation that every page seems to be pointing me toward. What confuses me is that when I try and open the uppermost index.php file on the remote server, the dynamically discovered content is not being displayed in the live view with my local testing server. I want to be viewing my existing WordPress site in its entirety exactly as I see it online while I'm editing it, and then pushing back updated files to the /public_html/ root directory of the remote server so that I can edit the site from my local client. I'm extremely new to Dreamweaver, so any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
    If you know how to do exactly what I'm trying to do and have been successfully viewing and editing your existing WordPress site in Dreamweaver for upload, please take some time to explain the set-up. I'd be forever in your debt!

    I've been following this discussion for a while now and I don't understand why you hope to edit articles from DW.  That's what the WP Admin panel is specifically designed for.  Besides, you won't find your articles in any of the site files because they don't exist there.
    I agree I don't see any reason to want to edit a Wordpress site in Dreamweaver. If you are using Wordpress then you may as well put Dreamweaver in the bin. Although people do actually want to edit and manipulate the design in Dreamweaver (including myself) and from what I've read its possible but I've never found a source which explains fully how to achieve this and those that I have it seems too much effort to even bother about.
    I guess the Dreamweaver environment feels more like home and is more user friendly.
    To put it another way, a typical WordPress installation contains around 800 files in some 80 folders.  Those files don't contain any content, just a whole lot of PHP code.   In fact, the only page most people ever see on your site is the index.php page which is dynamically created over & over by the server with content from the MySql and various include files.
    For sure and that's why people who use Dreamweaver and feel the need to manipulate a Wordpress site in Dreamweaver because Wordpress is 'in vogue' get lost. Wordpress just containes a lot of pages with nothing to see apart from some php, many of who will not understand one jot.
    Unless you're a coding guru, you should definitely NOT touch any of the core WP files as this could cripple your site.  If you want to customize your Theme, look at the CSS and include files in your Themes folder.   See Anatomy of a WordPress Theme:http://yoast.com/wordpress-theme-anatomy/
    lol your not wrong there!
    For a quick tip on Theming, open your remote site in Firefox equipped with the 'Web Developer Toolbar'.  Edit CSS on screen.  Save changes to your local site and upload it to the remote server.  No testing server required.
    Wordpress is Wordpress and Dreamweaver is Dreameaver. As far as I can make out the two don't mix.
    Ideally you would just choose a Wordpress theme which most relates to the nice site you have designed in Fireworks of which you won't find any however goodthe themes are. Then manipulate the themes css that's if you can understand it. Even for a seasoned css expert its heavy going because everyone produces css differently to achieve the same results.
    Leave Wordpress well anlone unles you're going to use it out of the box so to speak or as a web-developer don't mind a bit of reverse engineering.

  • How do I edit my Top Sites Page on Mavericks?

    I am trying to figure out how do I edit the top sites page. Before you were able to click an edit button that allowed you to delete and pin the pages but now I can't figure it out. More specifically I want to know who to delete certain pages.

    I know this is old, but I just figured I would shed some light on solving the issue I think you are actually speaking of. When I upgraded, I immediately noticed I could not click "edit" in the bottom corner to change the amount of top sites, which slightly irritated me. I tried everything, and eventually thought they had done away with the feature altogether, but then I saw if you click safari (from here, that Bold Safari word in the top left corner of the screen) and choose 'preferences' it will take you to a tab that allows you to modify the number of top sites, allowing me to go back down to 6. Easier to read, easier to make sense of. (A lot of websites cannot be made out when they are '16 top site' size. So this was something I wanted to fix, with my 11" screen.) Hope this helps!

    To answer your specific question "Is it possible to edit a google site using dreamweaver" the answer is NO.  The reason is that Google does not allow uploading of web pagesusing any means such as FTP.  Google provies hundreds of templates to choose from and like you I don't like them at all.
    Microsoft had a free service long time ago that allowed you to upload your own pages but this has been stopped for new customers.  New customers are required to sign up to their Office 365 Service <http://tinyurl.com/bucc6t4> and this costs money.  However, you can build and host a website with a custom domain for your business.using their free software called Microsoft Sharepoint Designer 2010 <http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=16573>.  I believe they also have a 64 bit version to download but I only use 32 bit on my 64 bit systems!!
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I edit a Wordpress theme - Greyed out?

    Hi,
    I'm new to Dreamweaver and have just successfully setup my Wordpress Site to run in dreamweaver through MAMP.
    Using the properties box on the side, I've been able to successfully edit the single line text boxes on my theme.
    I am unable to edit any other part of my theme however. Everything I click on the website has all of the options "greyed out" within the properties box.
    1) I'm sure this is probably something quite basic, but how do I edit the properties if they're greyed out?
    2) Also is there a way to copy the properties from one area to another? "Enter Your Email" is in the same font as "Enter Your Message", but they're displaying differently and I'd like them to match.
    3) The menu's on my theme adjust based on the width of the device. On the narrowest width however, they aren't quite lined up correctly. I can't see anything in the properties however (such as margins being used). How would I go about correctly aligning these to the centre?
    Thanks Jake

    Most wordpress themes have options that can be changed from within the dashboard, a lot of commercial themes even use 'page builders' that offer a GUI to construct new pages. Be careful when making changes to a template if your not sure what your doing as this can break functionality.
    As MurraySummers states most pages are constructed on the fly and use a series of templates- header.php/footer.php etc as well as a series of child themes - page.html etc to construct the pages you see on the screen. The only page that exists in wordpress is index.php. Everything is routed using .htaccess and URL rewriting.

  • How to custom edit SharePoint 2010 site without SPD2010 / Visual Studio enabled

    Hi All,
    my company completely disabled custom editing SharePoint 2010 sites. Editing now only available through the web.
    A little tweak like filtering datasheet list view based on user group membership is impossible now.
    Original solution was to replace code part in SPD like:
    <Where>
    <Or>
    <Membership Type="CurrentUserGroups">
    <FieldRef Name="REPLACEME"/>
    </Membership>
    <Eq>
    <FieldRef Name="REPLACEME"/>
    <Value Type="Integer">
    <UserID Type="Integer"/>
    </Value>
    </Eq>
    </Or>
    </Where>
    Source: http://www.hornerit.com/2009/07/filtering-by-group-in-sharepoint-person.html
    Can I still make some workaround to solve this problem, or I should go back to good old days using spreadsheets / folders / mailbox instead of SharePoint websites?
    Thanks!

  • Editing a wordpress theme in Dreamweaver

    Hi there I have been looking every where for help on how to
    setup a wordpress theme in dreamweaver. So that I could edit it in
    Dreamweaver which would be so much easier. The main reason is so
    that I can add and delete what I want and make a theme better and
    also my own!

    Consider using the Dreamweaver extension, ThemeDreamer. It
    turns Dreamweaver into a WYSIWYG editor for WordPress themes. Open
    just about any WordPress theme to get a visual approximation in
    Design View. It's great for customizing CSS, drag n' drop/position
    blocks of code (just like you did with html in Dw), while easily
    navigating code in CodeView, eliminate the need to guess/parse
    multiple files (header.php, etc.) that make up a theme. Bonuses are
    code hints, context sensitive documentation via the property sheet,
    no server required (work offline), etc. Sure, Design View is just
    an approximation but it sure beats the heck out of trial n' error
    for doing design.
    Without it, you're missing out on alot of Dw's potential with
    WordPress. Before/after screen shots speak for themselves:

    Hope that helps!

  • Editing a WordPress theme with Dreamweaver

    I am a Web Designer based out of Los Angeles Ca and we are always being asked to create new wordpress sites and maintain the sites. Would it be a good move to start using Dreamweaver to edit wordpress Blogs?
    Save time using it?

    There are solutions available for helping you manage WordPress sites, some of which support Dreamweaver. Check out ServerPress.com; I believe their virtual server product supports Dreamweaver in that it creates Dreamweaver site definitions and views.  Whether this would save time over using WordPress's built-in design tools depends a lot on you. If you're already a Dreamweaver pro and very used to working with it, then yes, it probably will save you time, especially if you're not at all conversant in PHP.

  • How to prevent editing a SharePoint site column value from document properties view of a downloaded document?

    Hi,
    We have created a SharePoint site column with below settings
    1. ShowInEditForm - False
    2. ShowInNewForm - False
    3. ShowInDisplayForm - True
    With the above definition, the site column showing only in view properties form not in New and Edit forms.  This column is added to a document library and updating this column value will be managed by event receiver code when a document is uploaded.
    Till this point, everything is working OK.
    But the issue is when we download and open a document from the above document library, under document properties the above column (with value) is visible along with other document default properties and  this column value is editable. With this issue,
    user is able to set a new value and overwrite the existing value by re-uploading the document.
    Could you please let me know how to handle this issue so that user should not be allowed to edit except viewing the value/property (read only)?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Ramesh

    You can set "ShowInFileDlg" property of field to "FALSE". Using this you will not see that field in document properties list

  • Can I edit Wordpress site through Dreamweaver?

    I've started a site on wordpress consultantdesignengineers.com and I was wondering is it possible to open wordpress template files in DW and do some customizing and be able to see the results in the design mode and if so, what exact files from WP need to be loaded in DW? cheers

    WP Theme development requires really good coding skills in PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.  If you're not a skilled coder and more specifically very familiar with how Child Themes work, I don't think DW's Design View will much help to you. It's all about working with code.
    To work with PHP files locally, you need a local testing server.

  • How to add edited text from photoshop to dreamweaver

    I edited text in photoshop to make it look nice and sparkly. I am trying to put it in a flash site but do not understand how. the context file only allows you to choose the color and type of font but nothing more such as drop shadows and such. when i go to edit the context code for the flash site what would the code for edited text in photoshop look like in dreamweaver context editor?

    I am not sure I understand? There is no Photoshop code?
    You would take the image you created in Photoshop and place it into your Dreamweaver document. Correct me if I don't understand what you are trying to do.

  • How do I import my GoLove sites into Dreamweaver CC?

    Hello

    There's nothing much to import.  Simply Define a site in DW by going to Site > New Site.  Tell DW where on your hard drive to find your GoLive Site files.  See screenshot.
    Given that GL generated code that doesn't meet current web standards and used proprietary stuff that isn't supported in DW, you will have to clean things up quite a bit and find replacements for any automated features or extensions you may have used in your GL site.
    Most people find it's cleaner in the long run to just rebuild their site in DW.  Start with a new layout -- New > Blank page > HTML.  Select a layout from the 3rd panel & hit CREATE.  SaveAs index.html.  Repeat for other site pages.
    Then it's just a matter of copying & pasting old content into your new site layout.
    Good luck!

  • Migrating wordpress site for Dreamweaver

    It would be possible to transfer this layout? I transmormar this site from php to html.
    The site is this: http://www.wrcriacaodesites.com.br

    Hi Ricardoffjr,
    I'm not an expert but I use WinHTTrack that is a software that "translates" the public webpage to HTML.
    Then you can open with DW.
    It is a bit tricky once the program is finished because you need some HTML knowledge. But nothing serious.
    If you want to try and have any problem leave me a reply.
