How do I edit master footer on certain pages in Indesign?

I am making changes to a large Indesign document that someone else started so I'm not sure how the master footers were set up nor how to change them.  It looks like that the master footers reflect the section of that page.  How is this set up to begin with?  As I'm changing content some of the footers are not being updated.  For example, a certain section is now longer and ends up taking more pages but the footer isn't reflecting the correct section name.  Along with that I notice that one of the section footers has a misspelled word.  How do I change that?  I don't want to click and unlock the footer to change it as then it won't be linked to the master any more.

Is there one master for all pages, or a master for each section?
If a single master, it's probably using a Running Header variable to pick up the section name, but if there's separate master for each section you need to apply the correct master to your pages to get the footer to match. Edit the spelling whre the error occurs, on the master if the word is spelled out, or in the text where the content for a variable is being picked up.

    Hi everyone,
    I have a few pictures in a publication, and I only need to see the bleed on those pages. However, when I select bleed option under document setting, the bleed appears on every single page.  How to show bleeds only on the pictures pages? Thank you very much!
    Simon
    You can fake a bleed by drawing a rectangle on a non-printing layer. Show or hide the layer as needed. Because showing/hiding a layer affects all pages in a document, to show one or another fake bleed independent of others, place each on its own layer. Although in InDesign CS5's Layers panel, you can select objects on layers and show or hide them individually, it's tricky to figure out which is which; it's easier to place each fake bleed rectangle on its own layer.

  • How to print Header and footer in same page

    Hi All,
    I am using Oracle Report 10g. How can I add header and footer on same page as my body? Right now when a generate a pdf file, it is printing individual pages instead of 1 one page. Please help me.
    Regards

    HI
    First of all,
    Unless otherwise you selected some option like page break after/before - both body and header/footer will print on same page in report, so in pdf as well.
    If you have difference on report and PDF that you should look into your setup.
    If you want more help, please be particular on your issue

  • [SOLVED] Newbie asks how to suggest edits to LVM Luks Wiki page...

    I'm a newb to Arch. I've been using Fedora for about four years, so Arch is a fun challenge. And I wish to contribute to the clarity of the Wiki page. Having set up LUKS with LVM for Fedora twice, and now Arch, one or two points might benefit the following wiki pages.
    First, The instructions for kernel parameters on Kernel parameter configuration of the bootloader refers to the kernel parameter as:
    cryptdevice=<device>:<dmname>
    <device>
        The path to the raw encrypted device. Usage of Persistent block device naming is advisable.
    <dmname>
        The name given to the device after decryption, will be available as /dev/mapper/<dmname>. (<dmname> MUST NOT be set to a name already used for LVM partitions!)
    While higher up the page LVM on LUKS:
    cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda3 lvmpool (alternate)
        For setting up LVM ontop the encryption layer the device file for the decrypted volume group would be anything like /dev/mapper/lvmpool instead of /dev/sda3. LVM will then give additional names to all logical volumes created, e.g. /dev/mapper/lvmpool-root and /dev/mapper/lvmpool-swap.
    The alternate reflects the LVM setup which seems to be a best practice in Fedora. My working setup is
    cryptdevice=/dev/sda3:<LVMvolumeGroup>
    . And when mounting the LUKS partitions I found it necessary to activate the volume group name with
    #vgchange -ay <volumeGroup>
    In that scenario the configuration install was:
    # cryptsetup luksFormat -y --cipher aes-xts-plain --key-size 512 /dev/sda3
    # cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda3 cryptVG
    # pvcreate /dev/mapper/crypt
    # vgcreate cryptVG /dev/mapper/crypt
    # lvcreate -n root -L 20.0G cryptVG
    # lvcreate -n swap -L 6.0G cryptVG
    # lvcreate -n data -l 100%FREE cryptVG
    /** For Arch you're applying the file-systems now, but in Fedora, the Anaconda installer takes care of it.**/
    # cryptsetup luksClose crypt
    For me, as a newbie setting up the two L's I found it easier to understand LVM as logical volumes in a volume group. Not sure how much this matters in theory, but in practice as a newbie setting up the two L's, I found it easier to understand LVM as logical volumes in a single volume group. Mainly because the Anaconda installer was automatically setting up the volume group name, and when I used the above setup, my custom name was reflected in Anaconda's GUI.
    Second, The omnious Bang'd warning not to use 'a name already used for LVM partitions' seemed to conflict with the GRUB page instructions, until I noticed the GRUB page didn't include LVM.  Given the popularity of LUKS and LVM solutions, it seems some hyperlinking notes would be appropriate. Yes?
    And maybe third... I was working on a GRUB config issue and couldn't find any reference in the GRUB wiki page to explain to me the difference between GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX and  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT (or more importantly, something to explain putting commands into one, the other or both). The GRUB wiki instructs to put the encryption parameter on the former, and dm-luks instructs to put it ... well, it doesn't state where to put the encryption parameters, and simply refers to Kernel parameters page.

    As stated by WonderWoofy, you are more than welcome on the wiki! Just register and edit the article, but I'd like to add that you (like everyone else) are very warmly invited to always explain each of your edits exhaustively using the Edit Summary at the bottom of the Editor page; if the explanation is so long that doesn't fit in the summary, open a discussion in the talk page and link to that discussion from the summary itself. Last thing, don't do big edits all at once, but prefer splitting your work in a series of little edits: this will help everybody understand what you've done, since the resulting diffs will be much clearer.

    thank you for your help,

    Hi,
    In the "successful submission of a form, execute this PL/SQL block or PL/SQL procedure" section redirect to the url.
    Say you want to redirect to a dynamic page on success, you can do this
    begin
    <portalschema>.wwa_app_module.set_target('<portalschema>.NEW_DYN.SHOW?p_arg_names=dept&p_arg_values=20');
    end;

    Is that maybe a browser memory auto-complete thing? It works on Netscape 7.2. But no, it's not a browser auto-complete thing (does NS have that? IE does... either way, I would've disabled that). It's definitely a Javascript trick, I'm sure of that. I know I haven't sent mail to all people in my address book from my work PC, but it doesn't stop them from showing in the list as I type...
    Unless there is a special HTML tag option or browser extension that I've never heard of that allows you to supply a set of values to a text input field for auto-completion (as opposed to the browser remembering what was typed).

  • How do I only allow comments on certain pages?

  • How to make a layer exclusive to a page in InDesign CS6?

    As I am just transitioning over to InDesign from working in Illustrator, how do I make a layer exclusive to just one page in a multi page document?
    What am I making?
    I'm putting together a document with 10 separate, single page, adverstisements but I dont want all of the background images from every page to disappear when I toggle the on/off switch on the layer in which I've placed the image. It seems as though all the pages are linked to the same layer. I must be approaching this the wrong way.
    Any help in troubleshooting this would help me out greatly - Thank you.

    … So, this is not because Layers is a global document concept as Steve said [He's totally right!] that you can't use one layer dedicated to one page.

  • How do i add a letterhead (company logo) to certain pages of a pdf document? Need to do this all the time!

    I need to add letterhead/logo as a header and footer to certain pages of PDF document. Can I set up a template header and footer that I can select to go onto certain pages of document?
    When I try to add a header in Adobe Acrobat X Standard it only lets me add letters & numbers and not a jpg image logo.

    You could setup stamps, one for the header and one for the footer. Then apply and place the stamps. It may be you can create one stamp to do the job as long as the background is transparent. I am not sure about templates since it is an area I have never played with. Consider these as ideas to try. Not sure how well they will work. If you wait around, someone with better input may drop by.

  • Master Text Frame for Page Heading

    Hello, I am new to indesign and using CS4.  Sorry if this is a newbie question.
    I am creating a pdf digital presentation and laying it out.  I want to create a consistent header on each page in the top left corner and ensure it is in the exact same location on each page.  I also want to make sure the text size, font, and color is consistent on each page.  Most importantly, if I need to change anything, lets say a font, I want to only do it in one place and not do it on all 20 pages in my document.
    My understanding is to add a text frame to the master page.  However, how do I edit the text on each page and not have it show on my cover page which is page 1 of my document?
    Thanks!!!!

    Create a text frame on the master page (make it wide enough and deep enough for the longest heading)
    Insert some generic text like "Heading"
    Give it a paragraph style
    Adjust the paragraph style to your liking
    Go to each page you want to change, and CTRL SHIFT (cmd shift on mac) and double click the "Heading"
    Change the text to what you want it to look like.
    To alter the text colour/font etc. for all of them - adjust the paragraph style
    To edit the text style for each heading so they look different in terms of colour etc. -  just change the Character Colour via the swatches.
    if you do this, then any changes to the Paragraph style should follow through on all pages - except where you've perhaps changed the character colour (or any other hand-adjusted changes to the text.
    Also - if you move the Text Frame on the master page they should all move on the corresponding pages, provided you haven't moved them by hand on the actual pages.

  • How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp

    How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp? So far when I try to disconnect the external HD from the mbp, I get the following pop up window: The disk "external hard drive A" couldn't be ejected because "Lightroom" is using it. Quit that application and try to eject this disk again. When I do that and restart Lightroom 5, the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom - Select Catalog screen pops up but doesn't list my external hard drive A as a choice.
    I've reviewed Adobe's Lightroom Help | Smart Previews Lightroom 5 web page and still haven't been able to figure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

    Your internal HDD. by default, is named 'Macintosh HD'. From what information you supplied, it looks like there is already a Lightroom catalog installed on you local (internal) HDD using the standard naming convention Adobe uses as well as a Lightroom catalog on your external drive which you created. To be sure of which catalog Lightroom is loading when it starts up, To do this, start Lightroom as you normally would. After it starts, select the Lightroom menu item, then select the Catalog Preferences item and finally, navigate to the General tab. The Location information will tell you exactly what catalog Lightroom is opening by default. This will likely be the Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog on your external HDD. Once that is confirmed, you are ready to proceed. As an additional test/verification, you can shut down Lightroom and, this time, start Lightroom while holding down the ALT/OPTION key. This will cause Lightroom to pause and display a screen which will allow you to chose a different catalog to open. Navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder and select the Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat file. When Lightroom comes up, there should be no previews or folders as this catalog should be empty. Now you can be certain which catalog is being used and which catalog has all your data and you are ready to migrate your current catalog. Shut down Lightroom.
    To migrate your current catalog, use Finder to locate your Photography Mac Book Pro Versions folder on your external drive. Select the folder and select COPY from the context menu. Next, use Finder to navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder on you internal HDD. You can start at the Macintosh HD level and work your way down by opening each level (Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures). Select the /Pictures folder and then select PASTE... from the context menu. When the COPY/PASTE is complete, you should see the following files on the Macintosh HD:
    Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/ and
    Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions
    The Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder will contain the empty default catalog the Adobe created when Lightroom was installed and Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions will contain a copy of the catalog you created on your external HDD.
    You are almost done now. Make sure your external drive is still attached for this step. Restart Lightroom using the ALT/OPTION key again. When the Select Catalog screen appears, select the Choose a Different Catalog button (lower left side). When you do, a Finder window will open to allow you to navigate to a catalog of your choosing. Navigate to Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions and select the file Photography Mac Book Pro Version.lrcat. This is the copy you just created. Select the Open button and Lightroom should start. You should see all of your previews and settings just as before. Also, in the left hand panel, all of your folder should show up and none of them should be dimmed and none of your previews should display a small exclamation point badge. Either a dimmed folder name or an exclamation point badge indicates that Lightroom can't find the associated image file. If everything looks good, go to the Lightroom menu, select Preferences and then select the General tab. Under Default Catalog, select an option to either load the LAST catalog opened or select the Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog from the drop down. Shut down Lightroom and then restart it normally. This time, when Lightroom starts, you should be viewing the new copy of your catalog. You can confirm this by looking at the General tab on the Catalog Preferences screen (Lightroom/Catalog Preferences menu items). Shut down Lightroom once again and this time, eject your external drive before restarting. This time, your folders in the left hand panel will be dimmed but you should be able to work with your smart previews. If Lightroom should display a Select Catalog screen with the external drive detached, double check your settings as it indicates Lightroom is still looking at the copy of the catalog on the external drive rather than the new copy you made.
    Finally, if you are seeing dimmed folders and/or exclamation point badges with the external drive attached, this indicates a problem. You can select any folder and select Update Folder Location from the context menu. This will allow you to navigate to the copy on the external drive and select it. Lightroom will then update the catalog (select to synchronize the content). This will not only clear the dimmed folder problem but also remove the exclamation point badges for all photos in that missing folder. However, it may indicate that not all went well with the copy of the catalog so make sure to verify all went well. You can use the Get Info option on the two folders. You should see the same number of files/folders for both the copy on the internal drive as well as on the external drive but you can't rely on the byte count because of the possibility of differences between the geometry of the two drives. Hope this all helps!
