How do I edit out a small section of a clip?

I have a movie clip that's 3 minutes long. I need to edit out 12 seconds in the middle of the clip. I've looked for video tutorials, but haven't found one for this. Can someone walk me thru how to do this please. Sorry, I'm a newbie to iMovie 09. Thank you very much for any and all help.

Note also that after deleting the section you can still adjust, or fine tune, the end and start points of the remaining video at the split points.
Hover the pointer near one of the split points (the edge of the clip) and a left/right arrow symbol will appear. Click on this and an orange handle will appear. This can be dragged back and forth in increments of single frames.
To do this type of fine tuning, make sure that certain preferences are set. In iMovie's menu, select iMovie > Preferences. In the General tab, check the box Show Advanced Tools. In the Browser tab, check the box Show Fine Tuning controls.
The instructions are for imovie '11. You mentioned iMovie '09 - I'm not sure if all this works the same in that version. Although, the latest version of iMovie '11 is numbered 9.0.8 - all a little confusing! You may actually be using iMovie '11.

  • How do I edit out the middle of a video clip?

I am used to shortening a movie clip on either end, but don't know how to cut out a portion in the middle. Please help me. Thank you.

    Hello Miriam Griggs
There are a few ways you can do that. Check out the  page below and it will layout the multiple ways to trim clips, even the stuff in the middle.

  • How do you edit out the date and time stamp from a photo

How do you edit out the date and time stamp from a photo

You can blur it out with retouch
The built-in "Retouch" brush in "Edit" mode should suffice, if the background is mostly uniform, and if you set the size of the brush to slightly wider than the bar width of the letters. For example, in this picture I removed the year from the date (in the lower right corner) by using the "retouch" brush and following the contours of the letters. (the screen shot is from iPhoto '11, but iPhoto 9 should give similar results).

  • How do i edit out the dark places in a pdf?

how do i edit out the dark places in a pdf? I xeroxed pages from a book, and the xeroxes were not of great quality--lots of shadows where the book opened on the copier glass.
When I had the xeroxes scanned, the dark places turned deep black and made the xeroxed/ scanned texts almost unreadable.
How can I lighten the images in the PDFs so that the text is readable again?

  • Recorded a software instrument on garageband, how do I edit out the "silence"?

I have recorded a software track, how do I edit out the "silence" that was created before and after I recorded using the keyboard?
    Hope that made sense, thanks.

If you want to get rid of it forever, you could also snip and delete it:
Move the red timeline to the spot where you want to snip and remove the silence before your music comes in. Press Command T to snip. Then click anywhere in the work area to deselect all segments. Then select the beginning silent segment by clicking on it, and delete. Do the same at the end.

  • Can I edit out the middle of a video clip in iMovie?

I know how to crop the beginning or end of a video, but I would like to crop out a section in the middle. I don't want to lose the part following the cropped frames. What must I do? Thanks for any advice you can offer. Miriam

Can I edit out the middle of a video clip in iMovie?
    Yes.
    What must I do?
    Basically you have three options:
    1) If the clip is in the "Event" window, simply select (i.e., set and adjust if necessary "in" and 'out" points) the segment you want and transfer it to your "Project" window and place it where you want it.
    2) If the clip is already in the "Project" window, simply select (i.e., set and adjust if necessary "in" and 'out" points) the segment you want to keep...
    a) and press the "Split" option in the edit menu (or the "Split Clip" option in the context menu) to divide the clip into three segments. Then select each of the segments you don't want and press the "Delete" key to remove them from the "Project" window.
    b) or, even easier, simply press the "Trim to Selection" option in the "Edit" menu.
All of these work flows do not physically remove anything from the "Event" but merely perform a non-destructive edit of the project for the purpose of later output.

  • How can I edit out a part of my song in itunes?

I need to edit out a part of my song but keep the rest. And the part I need to edit out is in the middle.

    Bakergirl,
You can use iTunes to remove the beginning or end of a song (or both) by setting the Start and Stop times.
But to remove a section from the middle and keep the rest, you will need an audio editor such as Audacity.

  • How can I print out a small size address book in Leopard?

How can I print out my address book in Leopard, preferably in pocket size and preferably
without each card having a separate page?

First off, you've posted in the Tiger forum, even though your profile says you're running Snow Leopard. Even worse, you're asking about Leopard. You need to be sure you post your questions in the corrrect forum.
As for the question itself, all you have to do is select the Group you want to print in Address Book, choose Print, select 'Pocket Address Book' from the pop-up Style menu, check the attributes you want included for each contact, and the paper size you want to use and Print.

  • How do I edit/delete the same section of multiple tracks?

Basically I'm doing a podcast with multiple voice tracks. Once I sync and line everything up, I still have sections of audio I want to take out. But obviously with the tracks synced, I need to delete it from all of them at once and have the audio "snap" back in place. How do I accomplish this?

Enable the "Arrangement Track" and define arrangement regions. Then you can delete and move regions across all tracks at once.
    See: Edit Arrangement Regions

  • How to mask/edit out a stray hair strand in premiere pro cs5 using aftereffects?

Thank you VERY much for recommending I bring this issue to the After Effects forum!
I have several clips with a person with one small but noticeable stray hair strand extending below the side of their glasses over their cheekbone. The person is fairly stationary throughout all clips and the skintone is what I want to replace the strand.  Is there a way to have the skin tone intelligently mask out/replace that part of the hair over the facial area; can I select it in some way/is there a specific effect to do this? I do have AfterEffects CS5 but have not used it yet -- BUT I am a reasonably quick study and any direction on how to do this there will be MUCH appreciated.

Please post a frame or two that shows exactly what you're dealing with, so we can better make recommendations.
In the meantime, here is a set of getting started resources so that you can familiarize yourself with the basics of After Effects:

  • How do I print only a small section of a very large spreadsheet

I need to print only the first 15 colums and 240 rows of a huge spreadsheet in Numbers '09.  Any ideas on how to do this?
    thank you for any assistance.

Method 1.  Hide the columns beyond the 15th and all the rows beyond the 240th. Then Print.
Method 2.  Select and Copy the range you want to print. Insert a new Sheet, and delete the default blank talble in the new sheet. Edit > Paste Values onto the new sheet. Print the new Sheet.
Method 3.  Select and Copy the range you want to print. Switch to Preview.app. Command-N, Command-P.

  • How do I edit out the previous email addresses from the pop up list of address in Apple Mail?

Whenever someone sends me a new email address, I go to address book and edit the page. The problem is that whenever I go to send an email and start to type the address in, the drop down menu lists possible entries as I type, and it still keeps the old address on that list, sometimes above the new address and if I don't carefully check, it will go out to the wrong address.
It seems to hold onto the old addresses no matter what I do. I have edited, tossed out or changed in the address line of the email, and it still holds onto the old addresses.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

If I start an email to John Doe. I type in his name and if I look at the drop down menu when I click his name, it will offer several options, including "open in address book". Makes sense. He is already there.
But some names, a few to be sure, have "add to address book" even though they are already there.
And if I open the address book and open their page, I will see all the info, just as I should.
But if I click on the "add to address book", the same email address is repeated on their page in the address book. So I could end up with the same email address 5 times on the page.
Someone told me once that if I cannot cure the bug then I should consider it a "feature".

  • How do I edit out background objects in CS 4 Premiere Pro or After Effects?

Hi,  I've got the CS4 version of Premiere Pro and After Effects.  I'm editing a seminar video and there is a very ugly metal bar right behind the speaker, looking as though it is going right through his head.  Is there a way to edit this out?  I do not have similar footage without the metal bar.  Can I cover it up and, if I do, do I have to do it almost frame by frame?  The speaker does shift around in his chair, covering different parts of the bar with his body at different times, and, on a few occasions, the camera zooms out.  Is there any way to somehow cover this up for the whole video?  Or at least for some of the close-ups?
    Any advice is appreciated.  Thanks!

Thank you so much.  I read through the entire article as well as some of its adjuncts; it was very helpful.  I believe I didn't know that was what I was looking for before you answered me.
However, when I FIRST set up this computer (while still at the Apple store, with their guidance) they had me set up what I now believe was the administrator account.  I wish I knew for sure!
They told me that (whatever it was) was unchangeable, and that if I forgot the password, I was doomed.
Is there something at a yet-more-basic (underlying) level than the administrator account?
This "memory" is what haunts me and makes me fearful of logging clear out; I never have done so.  No one else uses this computer.  But I have to log out to use the Test account (that I just created).  I DO know the password for the administrator account and the test account, as I changed them and tested them by unclicking the lock (and then reclosing it when I was.
If I still sound confused, I am  ~  woefully.  Such a basic should not be unknown to me......
Thank you so much for replying.  I hope you see this, and will do so one more time.
    Respectfully,
    kemandpopka
