How do I edit the Genre list?

I want to edit the list of Genre choices. Is there any way to do it besides editing every file individually?

The genre list is generated from what is in your library.
You can add genres to the list by editing a song and making up a genre for it. I have done this for my Irish music. After changing the genre in the song the list had the new entry.
If you have genres that are duplicates or look like duplicates,for example typos, you need to edit the files with those genres.
Easiest way to find files by genre is with the browser view turned on in iTunes.

This is an older set of directions for editing the genres included in iTunes. I don't know if it still works with newer versions, and make sure you back up your computer before doing editing of this kind because unpredictable things can happen.

Anyone figure out how to edit the genre list in itunes yet?

I've searched the topic list to answer my question and have found some threads on this subject but all were from some time back.
I was just wondering if there is anything new on this. I understand there are factory preset genres. I understand how to add and remove my own. But I want to nuke apple's factory preset genres so my list is more concise and pertinent to my own tastes.
Another reason I want to edit it could just be because they say I cant!

I am not sure if this is what you want, if you click on the genre field of an individual track, you can edit it. If you make it a new genre, it will appear in the genre list.

There are a number of predefined genres, the rest are those entered in the tags of your files. Open the list/album list view with column browser and turn on the Genres column. Find a genre you want to remove or merge with another. Click on it to show all the files with that genre. Select all & Get info. Type in the updated value for the Genre. Click OK. Repeat until finished....

How can I edit the compatibility list? (iecompatdata.xml)

Compatible header field sent by the proxy/load balancer. The admins are unable to change it, but it breaks the site. If I open the development tools, I can manually change the document mode to IE 10 and it works. I believe that if the site were included
in iecompatdata.xml with docMode="EmulateIE10" it would work right.
I can edit that file, but IE doesn't seem to recognize the changes. Is there any way to force it to keep my changes? Not being able to set a persistent override of my user experience is idiotic.
Edit: please note that I'm using IE 11 on Windows 8.1 x64

add the x-ua meta or header value IE=10 instead.. The MS Compatibility View list is automatically updated/over-written each time the browser is restarted if there is a connection available.
However the only reasons to force IE11 to use IE10 emulation would be because you are using depreciated non-standard DOM methods...

How do I edit the synch list

Hi,
When I use the Creative MediaSource Organizer, and I choose to AudioSync from a folder on my computer to my Zen Micro, it only shows me the files that are going to be synched up and then I have to synch all the files. How can I manually remove some of the songs that are about to be synched? I thought I was able to do this at one time, but it doesn't seem to give me the option now.

Hey, there are a few ways to transfer your files from the computer. You can use media source to simply drag and drop your files to where you want. This would be easiest way to transfer the files you want. I dont think you can choose specific files doing audiosync. Alternativly you can click "import music to device" and choose the files you want, or simply select select the song you want and drag them into media source... How or can I edit the genre field to get my songs into the genre I want?

I have all of my songs organized by Genre and ITUNES seems to default to whatever the album information genre is. To use ITUNES and be able to find and play my music I need to change (edit the genre field to reflect my genre classifications
I keep all music on an external drive and regardless of the albums genre classification have changed the genre to my classification. When I open ITUNES and it loads my music it changes the genre to the (I believe) the album's default and I cannot play my songs in the cjosen genre.

You should be able to edit the Genre field by choosing "Get Info" for the specific songs. You should be able to select a group, Get Info, and change the genre for the entire group.
This is using iTunes to accomplish the task, so the change should persist.
Reading similar article list, it was also suggested to turn off iCloud and/or iTunes match, which would lock the info to the iTunes master information.

In my view for a SharePoint list, I see three columns for SamAccountName. This list is for listing staff as a directory, so there are phone numbers, names, emails addresses, division, department and such. The SamAccountName
column for some people has incorrect username or is blank. When I edit a record in the list, the SamAccountName column is not available to edit.
How can I edit the SamAccountName column from the list or be able to edit it?
I do have user profiles working and importing profiles from AD, but the list still shows empty or incorrect SamAccountName for some records.

If the user does not remember the encryption password there is no way to use the backup.
The password cannot be removed or reset.
Delete the backup, restore as new. Sync the desired content to the device.

ITunes 11 - how can I change the genre of a movie now?

So I've had iTunes 11 for about 3 hours now and so far it *****. One of my main problems is I can't find how I can change the genre of a movie anymore. I used to do this from Get Info so I could organise all my movies in to my own genres that make sense to me which helps me find what I want to watch when using Apple TV.
It will still let me do that for movies I bought before I "upgraded" to 11 but for the movies I bought this evening, after upgrading, the genre drop down is locked down.
Am I just looking in the wrong place? Or have Apple somehow got the idea that pointlessly preventing your customers from organising their content in their own way is somehow an improvement and I'm stuck with their nonsensical genre classifications?
Same thing goes for movie titles now I think of it - I've edited movie titles after purchase (e.g. I've put HP1 in front of the title of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and HP2 in front of Chamber of Secrets) so that series list in watching order, rather than alphabetical order, on my Apple TV. It's not letting me do that from Get Info either
Please someone tell me I'm just doing it wrong - I don't think I've the patience to jump through the hoops necessary to get 10.7 back!

I had the same bug in songs. It was directly related to tracks purchased in the iTunes store, they wouldn't allow any changes, it was all grayed out.
Here's how I got around it. When I selected more than one item and any other item was not from the iTunes store it would allow me to Get Info and change everything with no problems.
My suggestion is that if you need to, add in a movie from your hard drive (anything at all, it will be a dummy placeholder) that you can you use to select along with the one you need to change. Use command click to select non-contiguous files (even works in different genres), then get info (or command i) and then change your info. You can keep using the same dummy file for as long as you need to to fix the files with incorrect info, then delete it when done.

Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox with a possible feed.snapdo.com infection.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there.
You should check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

I can't get a sender field to select my Email address or mobile phone.
I've searched the Help file for "My Card" and come up with nothing.
I've looked in My Contacts and edited the data where my name has a little blue bust (figuring MAYBE that's the My Card),
but everything looks correct in there, so the sender field isn't pulling data from here.
So WHERE DO SENDER FIELDS COME FROM?

First of all, THANKS for the quick reply. However it’s not working, either from the Link Inspector, or directly from the Menu. Here’s the steps to reproduce the problem:
I start with a new blank document, then pull down the Insert menu / Sender Field / Name / First Name, all it does is insert the word “First Name” into the document.
Pull down the Insert menu / Sender Field / Phone / Home Phone, all it does is insert the words “Home Phone”.
Same with all the other fields.
In other words, Sender Fields are not pulling data from the Contacts list.
I have done as you suggested, even closing both the Pages program AND Contacts, then starting Contacts first before starting Pages, in the hope that the link between the two will be established when starting Pages. Still no good.
I got it to work once last night (which was a good sanity-check for me to know I was doing it right) after editing my contact data inside the Contacts program, but I can’t get it to work today. I’ve tried rebooting, restarting Contacts, starting contacts BOTH before and after starting Pages. But it still won’t go.
It’s hard to believe this program is an Apple product, seeing how unreliable it is.
Any other suggestions?

If you want to delete messages from the list - Tap the Edit button in the upper left corner of the messages app - above the Messages list. Then tap the red circle next to the messages that you want to delete.
But ....if you are asking how to remove the entire list from the screen so that you can use messages in a "full screen" type mode, there is no way to do that.
