How do I empty "cache"?

How do I empty "cache"?

The best way to do this is simply to boot into Safe Mode.
Here's what to do:
1. Restart your computer
2. Just as you hear the chime sound and see a white screen on startup, hold down the shift key
3. You will see a progress bar as your computer boots into safe mode and clears your cache.
4. Simply restart normally, and your cache is clear.
Good luck!

  • How do you empty cache?

There's no more "Empty Cache" button under Safari tab.

Yep. If you only want to remove the History cache, you do that under the History menu of Safari.

  • Empty cache but save passwords

    how do i empty cache
    while saving my passwords?
    thx
    Deb

Emptying the Safari cache will not delete passwords. Passwords are stored in HD > Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access and viewable from Safari > Preferences > Passwords
With Safari open, press Command + Option + E on  your keyboard to empty the cache.
And there's an alternate way of doing this.
Go to Safari > Preferences > Advanced
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now from your Safari menu bar click Develop > Empty Caches

  • How to empty cache

Usually I clear the Safari Cache once a week and clean up cookies as well.
I noticed after upgrading to Mountain Lion, the Empty Cache is no longer shown on the Safari drop down.
    How is this done now?
    Thanks,
    Sonja

On Mountain Lion, the option to empty Safari cache is hidden, but you can continue using it. Follow these steps:
    1. Open Safari, go to Safari menu > Preferences > Advanced, and tick "Show Develop menu on menu bar"-
    2. Close Preferences window, and go to Develop menu > Empty caches

    Jonathan,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Here's how to empty your Java caches --
Go to your Utilities folder in the main Applications folder.
Double Click on Java 1.3.1 Plugin Settings.
    Select the Cache Tab.
Then click on Clear Jar Cache.
    That's it.
Now do the same for Java 1.4.2 Plugin Settings.
If I were you, I would also clear the History from the main Safari menu,
Empty Cache from "Safari" (Top left of your Safari Menu)
and check the size of your Icons folder in
    Home (Your Name)>Library> Safari folder.
If it's over 1 MB, put it in the trash and empty the trash.
A new one will be regenerated when you restart Safari.
Let us know how you're doing after this, OK?

Thanks.  I was afraid of that.  Don't like it.  Any idea why I don't have an empty cache function under the Safari drop down menu?

  • Can I reset my search engine to Wikipedia? I don't want any of those default Search Engines anymore they are too intrusive. And I can not Empty Cache any more and Google has taken over the address bar?

Can someone please explain how this now works? And am I obligated to load Mountain Lion. It's a very expensive price to pay for online privacy that isn't even Private anymore. I am old enough that I don't have to pay ransome. I can just quit.
I didn't say and was never asked If I wanted Mountain Lion. I can no longer 'Empty Cache' at the end of a session online and when I do a search now (and this has all changed overnight) the query is typed into what used to be the address bar and when the search results appear, after reading the first result and I want to read the second or fifth or Any of the other results of the query I am forced to resubmit the search in the address bar because the 'Page Back' button has been removed and the Little Red Dot closes the Search Results Page altogether.
What else am I in for with Mountain Lion? I already know that I do NOT want anything to do with iCloud. I am willing to bet a lot of money that a pharmaceutical company one day is going to be holding me for ransome with a new drug that was created out of the symptoms of a once - upon - a - time naturally occuring symptom of aging. At least I can turn my Macbook off and leave it that way and the world will not cease to exist. (Or will it?)

    Computer operation 101.
Get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading, using something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall or reset anything. See these for details:

If you only have a Time Machine backup, ensure that you can reliably restore it to another disk/volume/partition before updating/upgrading.
