How do I empty I photo trash

I have a lot of discarded photos (5000) in the actual Iphoto trash. When I try to empty it  the blue line shoots along but stops short of the end. And it looks as if it is continuing but wont, aven overnight !
Is there any alternative method ?

Create a new album and drag the photos from the trash bin into that album.  Then return the photos in the trash bin back to their Events by dragging them onto the Events icon in the left hand pane.
Next select about 100 of the photos in the album and use the Option+Command+Delete key combination to move those photos into the iPhoto Trash.  Empty that trash bin and repeat the process with another 100 or so photos.

  • How do I empty my Photo library on my iPod Touch 5th Gen?

Hi!  How do I empty my Photo Library on my iPod Touch 5th Gen?  It says I have 10.7 GB of photos but I've deleted all photos and videos from all messages, Photo Stream, etc.  Accessing it via a laptop and the DCIM folder is also free.  Where do I find what's taking up that space and then removing it?

    - You have to unsync photos that were synced to the iPod. That is covered here
Sync photos to your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch in iTunes - Apple Support
    - There are also program like TouchCopy and Phone view that can do it but those are paid programs
    - Backup the iPod and then restore from backup since synced photos are not included in the backup

I dragged a copy of a photo onto my desktop from iPhoto, and it seems to be in some state of process/activity (vs. just being a copy of a photo on my desktop).  I tried to delete/move to trash the photo, and I keep getting the following message:  “DSC_0073.JPG” can’t be opened right now because it’s being used by another task, such as moving or copying an item or emptying the Trash. I ended up shutting down my system, and when I started it back up, I was able to drag the photo to the trash and delete it (I did get a message warning that my deleting the photo might negatively affect the application that was "using" it, but I deleted it anyway...it worked...and I'm hoping I didn't adversely affect another application!).

  • How to empty 5000 photos from iPhoto's trash

    hi guys
a friend of mine -  a newcomer to Mac OSX.. - has piled up 5000+ photos in iPhoto's trash & when he tried to empty it , iPhoto simply freezes & has to be closed using ''force quit''.
he asked for my help but, no matter what i tried i simply didn't find a way to do it - one other thing, when we open his iPhoto & select ''trash'' to view it's contents, it doesn't show any thumbnails just little white outlined squares where the thumbnail's should/would normally be - is this normal ?
the reason i tried to ''view'' iPhoto's trash content is that i read on MacRumors ( i think.. ) a suggestion of  ''tagging'' the trash photos, create a smart folder with that tag to it, move the photos back into iPhoto's Library & THEN delete them in bunches of 50 or 60 at a time from that smart folder
so my obvious question is : any suggestions on how i can get iPhoto's trash to empty  ?
according to him his computer ( a 27'' iMac i7.. ) has started showing the spinning beachball a lot lately - could this trash situation be related to this ?
i have ran out of solutions so, any help anyone could provide would be MOST welcome
hoping to hear from you guys soon, many thanks
    Nuno

iPhoto has a well known problem with trying to delete large numbers of photos at one time.
Make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
Once you get the library to open in iPhoto try the following:
1 - select all of the photos in the trash and assign a unique keyword, say "Delete", using the Keyword pane:
2 - then drag all of the photo in the Trash bin onto the Photo icon in the left hand pane to move them back to their original Events.
3 - create a smart album with the criteria "Keyword" is "Delete".
4 - not select about 100 photos at a time, drag to the Trash bin and empty.
This should let you delete all of the photos safely.

  • How do I empty trash after deleting music, apps and photos from my iPhone to make more room for upgrading to iOS 8.1?

How do I empty trash after deleting music, apps and photos from my iPhone to make more room for upgrading to iOS 8.1?  It says I don't have enough room to upgrade so I have deleted some of everything but do not see an improvement in my storage space. Help?

    No need to empty anything.
You can update by connecting your phone to iTunes on your computer. This way you bypass the space limitations.
    Good Luck

  • What is the best way to empty my iPhoto trash when there are more than 1,700 photos in it?

I never realized there was a Trash in iPhoto.  Fortunately, I was reading a discussion on another iPhoto topic, and read that emptying iPhoto trash with more than 100 photos in it may mess up the database.  Any suggestions for how to delete 1,7000+ photos from the iPhoto trash?

Make sure you have a good backup and then right click and empty trash.
If the database gets corrupted, you can hold CMD OPT while clicking on iPhoto in the dock and get the options to rebuild.

  • I emptied my iPhoto trash but it tells me there are over 300 photos in my trash yet I can't find them and the trash looks empty?

After problems with iPhotos I emptied my iPhoto trash but it tells me there are still over 300 photos in the trash yet it looks empty and I can't find apparently still existing photos. How can I make the number go and tells me my trash is on zero?

    First ry the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If the above doesn't help continue with  the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

My iPhoto 11, V 9.4.2, locks up/freezes when I attempt to empty the iPhoto trash bin.
Originally, I thought it was due to 800+ files in the trash, however, I removed all but 5 photo files from the trash and it continues to lock up.  Inititally the "progress" bar would get to about 1/2 way and then it would stop and stall.  However, now the progress bar no longer shows a progress line it immediately freezes and locks up. Can anyone help?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • How do I delete a photo when there is not a trash bin at the bottom of the screen

How do I delete a photo when there is no trash bin on the bottom of the screen?

If there is no Trash icon for that photo, the photo was most likely copied to your iPhone by syncing with your computer. To delete the photo you need to do another sync.
    1. If you want to remove a complete album, deselect that album in iTunes on your computer. Then when you click on Sync or Apply that album will be removed from your iPhone but it will remain on your computer.
    2. If you want to remove only certain photos from albums you must delete the photo from the album on your computer or move it to a different album or folder.  Then when you click on Sync or Apply the photo(s) will be removed from your iPhone.
