How do I enable an add-on in Firefox safe mode?

So recently I have had a problem with Firefox crashing all the time and found out it was an add-on that was causing the problem.
I have tried opening Firefox in safe-mode to disable add-ons but they are already disabled, so I want to know how to enable an add-on and then to permanently disable it so Firefox will open normally again. . .
I have already tried to permanently disable all add-ons by using the Firefox options box but nothing happens after I click on the 'make changes and restart firefox' button. After I click it nothing happens and it remains frozen. ([https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe mode Window])
So to make things short, how do I enable an add-on in Firefox safe mode?

In Firefox 4 and later [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and also disables hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.
You should still see a Disable button or Enable button (if you disabled them all) in the extension Manager (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) if you start Firefox in Save mode.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • How do I force Lenovo Y560p to start in Safe Mode?

My Avira Anti-Virus program has alerted me to hidden viruses. These viruses can only be removed by booting up with an Avira Rescue Disk, or by starting the computer in Safe Mode and then running my anti-virus program in Safe Mode. My Lenovo Y560p will not bootup with the Avira Rescue Disk. Neither will it start in Safe Mode when I hold down F8 during startup. In both cases, Windows 7 (64bit) is starts normally, overriding the Avira Rescue Disk in the optical DVD drive or F8 being held down. (I've also tried F6.) How can I force the machine to start in Safe Mode, so that I can get rid of the hidden viruses?

    Hi ecbritz,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community.
There is no magic bullet. There is no one-size-fits-all. If you were to use an all-in-one (suite) such as Norton Internet Security, you would be getting the definitions from just one vendor. Different security vendors find different things. One also has to wonder if a company known for anti-virus protection is equally as good as one that specializes in firewall protection. This is not to say that more than one anti-virus should be installed. Use only one AV. A layered approach with "the best of all worlds" usually is advisable.
To address your question, I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials (free) or Eset's NOD32 Antivirus (paid). Over the years I have used Norton, Trend Micro, AVG, Avast!, MSE and NOD32. I have remained with MSE and NOD32 on my computers. None of my computers have ever had an infection.
For the next layer, I add Malwarebytes (free on-demand is good; paid with realtime protection is better).
As far as online browser security, along with your anti-virus and anti-spyware software,  Web Of Trust , uses colored alerts to warn you about risky websites that try to scam visitors, deliver malware or send spam. Protect your computer against online threats by using WOT as your front-line layer of protection when browsing or searching in unfamiliar territory. WOT's color-coded icons show you ratings for 21 million websites, helping you avoid the dangerous sites:
    Red for Warning = STOP
    Yellow for Use Caution
    Green for Safe
    Grey for Unknown
There is a Web Of Trust version for Firefox as well.

  • Firefox Safe mode has taken over my computer, how do I turn it off?

Something called Firefox Safe mode has taken over my computer, how do I turn it off?

  • How can I enable blocked flash plugin on firefox?

A couple of days ago, my computer (mac OS X 10.4.11 PPC) suddenly seemed to stop recognizing that I had flash installed and wouldn't play anything requiring flash - instead a message came telling me to install it.
I uninstalled flash and the installed the latest version for my computer from the adobe website (which is 10.1.102.64).
Computer still thinks flash isn't installed and when I checked plugins I discovered firefox has blocked it telling me the version of flash I want to use is too old (even though the version I've downloaded is the latest I can use with my computer).
How can I enable the plugin on firefox so I can use flash? The 'enable' button on the plugin has been greyed out so I can't press it.
Please help - I'm rubbish with computers so please give any advice in very simple language! ( i have firefox 3.0.4)

hello this should not have happened - mozilla recently uses the blocklist feature to notify users about the outdated flash plugin but not block it.
you'd have to trigger a manual update of the blocklist and hope that this time the correct version is retrieved.
go to tools > web-developers > error console & copy the following line into the code field & hit evaluate:
    ''Components.classes['@mozilla.org/extensions/blocklist;1'].getService(Components.interfaces.nsITimerCallback).notify(null);''
sorry for the computer gibberish. afterwards restart the browser & see if you can enable the plugin in the addons manager again.

  • How to reorder search engine add ons in Firefox Mobile for Android?

I've installed a few search engines as add ons in Firefox Mobile, and want to change the order they are listed in.
I'd expect this to be a simple drag and drop (I believe Opera Mobile allows search engines to be reorded by drag and drop), but that doesn't work.
How to I change the order in which search engines appear?

The only method right now is to disable or uninstall search engines. Doing a better job of being able to adjust this would be good.

Just to add to what Mark has said, Safe mode is really for troubleshooting a problem when your Mac cannot run properly in normal mode. You may already know this, but I thought i'd mention it in case you thought otherwise.

The example show what to do when you get to safe mode but it does not show the step of how to get to safe mode. In order to get to the safe mode how do you get there? The steps are not clear, I guess what I am asking is what are the step by step instructions starting from where to do go to get the safe mode choice?
My main problem is my enter button does not work in firefox google search. It will work for a short time and all of a sudden it will stop. How can I fix this problem as well?

You can also try to clear the cache and the cookies from sites (e.g. google.com) that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • V 17 & 18 use minimum of 30% cpu (even with all add-ons disable and safe mode) on MacBook 10.7

I have been having problems since release 17 (at least) with Firefox sucking up CPU. I have 4GB ram and often have multiple programs open, including Firefox with between 5 and 15 tabs / windows. Decreasing the number of open tabs / windows will decrease CPU usage by 2% for each tab / window closed until it hits 30%, then no more improvement. Oddly enough it drops to a constant 25% when Firefox is NOT in safe mode and all my plugins are enabled. But not below.
Help. I love firefox, but it is becoming more and more problematic.

I found a suggestion on this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/912984?tstart=0
that says to turn of the window restore feature in Lion. I turned it off and was able to install AIR and run the AIR application I use.
You can turn off the window restore feature in System Preferences -> General

  • How to remove a patch via smpatch in fail safe mode

    After installing patch
    139556-08 SunOS 5.10_x86: Kernel Patch
my system can not restart. Even after uopdating my boot archive the "normal" boot process fails every time and the system keeps restarting.
I would like to remove the patch in fail safe mode, but I do not know how to do it, when my system is mounted under /a.
Any advice, or alternative of how to get my system back online, would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your help

I had the exact same problem with the same patch. I brought up the box in failsafe mode, mounted the zfs filesystem where my patches were located, cd'd to the patch directory, then re-applied the patch using:
patchadd -R /a 139556-08I didn't bother to do a patchrm first. After I re-ran the patch, I also did a force update of the boot archive,
    bootadm update-archive -R /aFollowed by
shutdown -i 6 -y -g 0And everything was good. Seems there are a number of folks having trouble with this kernel patch.

  • How do I enable third party cookies in Firefox 5

I keep getting the message telling me to enable third party cookies. The instructions for how to do so tell me to choose the options feature from the tools drop down menu, then to click on "privacy" and check a certain box that would enable cookies.
This check box is not on the privacy menu. What do I do?

    Using the Menu Bar:
*press the ALT or F10 key to get the Menu Bar to '''''temporarily''''' appear
*with your mouse make the selection Tools > Options > Privacy
Using the Firefox button (Firefox 4 & 5):
*click the Firefox button > Options > Options > Privacy
To see the third-party cookies option, at the top of the Privacy panel set "Firefox will" to "Use custom settings for history"

  • How can I enable high contrast themes in Firefox WITHOUT high contrast on the Windows Desktop?

Firefox 4.0 broke one of the best accessability addons that existed, AnyColor. Now I'm stuck with the closest I can get to it, a non-customizable theme which gets some things right but other things wrong.
Naturally, I'd like to make my browsing as comfortable as possible to my low-vision eyes. I thought that the reported "high contrast" Firefox theme might help. Unfortunately, it seems that the only way to turn this on is to turn on high contrast themes in Windows-- and I have adjusted my Desktop so that I don't need them. Unfortunately that would seem to be the only way to get it in Firefox.
Is there a secret way to force high contrast themes? The best solution for low-vision users, of course, would be to officially support AnyColor, or an addon like it.
As an interim solution I'm using Purple Fox, which at least has the feature of being light text on a black background, and has visible tab close boxes; but it has fuzzy edges and twiddly graphics all over the place. It's not bad, it's just not really good. But having tried all of the themes with the word "dark" or "black" in the descriptions, it may be the closest to a working LV theme.
Thanks for any help you might be able to give.

Thanks for the reply. To clarify, by "Firefox chrome" I am referring to Firefox's GUI, such as the tab bar, scrollable context menus and the contents of the 'about:' pages. As a point of interest, Chromium on Ubuntu recently started supporting touch-scrolling for web pages and throughout it's interface.
dom.w3c_touch_events.enabled sends touch events to the webpage, which is less important to me right now. In fact, others have reported that in situations where Firefox has touch-scrolling, enabling that option breaks the touch-scrolling for webpages that listen for the touch events (hence the default being 'disabled').
I'd really like to know if native touch-scrolling is possible under Linux as my current setup is functional but not ideal.
