How do I enable javascript if there is no option to enable javascript - follow-up

I have read the solution on about:config solution in the original post, but when I when there, I found Java is already enabled - the default configuration.
I am running Noscript, yet I am prompted on virtually every page, to allow or forbid scripting for that page. How am I to know whether any particular site has malicious scripts on it? First, I cannot see the scripts, secondly I don't understand or know what the scripts actually DO, and thirdly, I'm not a coder so the whole field is out of my depth (i.e. deciding whether or not a script is "malicious").
One other thing: there are prompts to allow several sites, but how does a user know if any of them is safe or malicious? Any site could be hacked...including YOURS.
One more thing: when I tried to submit this question, I received an "ACCESS DENIED" error and when I returned to my question page, all my typing had been erased. I have had to retype everything. It seems I did not allow google analytics to submit, but why should this be necessary??
I like being protected from myself, but how do I know "MYSELF" is a danger, when Java is enabled by default, in reality every user is exposed to dangers by default.

Also, if Java is enabled, it implies that Noscript doesn't DISABLE it...I don't understand this. However Noscript is obviously working from the number of discrete pages I have to allow.
I assume I will have the same confusion with quickjava - what to allow of forbid.

How to remove an update when there is no option to cancel it?

iMac on Yosemite 10.10 here, but under purchases on the App Store, it shows OS X Mavericks download is paused and the only option is to resume download. Since I am already on Yosemite, how do I cancel/stop this update completely, instead of just pausing it?
I see an update under launchpad on the dock, but that is just the old OS update. It's rather annoying to keep looking at and am hoping to delete it or cancel it fully.

Glad you found it. I believe it is under the Sounds settings, right? And I also believe you can custom set vibrations for each contact just as you can change text tones by editing the contact and selecting text tone or ringtone.

There is nothing on that thread that says Javascript is turned off by default. to quote:

The UI checkbox to disable Javascript was removed, but the option still exists in about:config (which isn't code btw, it's just preferences), nor was Javascript turned off by default, in fact the opposite is true, it is enabled by default with the option to disable it made a little more difficult to find, as only advanced users need to disable Javascript.

It's a scam. Do not call the number. There are several ways to recover.
1. Some of those scam pages can be dismissed very easily. Press the key combination command-W to close the tab or window. A huge box will pop up. Press the return key and both the box and the page will close. If that doesn't happen, continue.
2. Press and hold command-W. You may hear repeating alert sounds. While holding the keys, click the OK button in the popup. A different popup may appear, which you can cancel out of as usual.
3. From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and uncheck the box marked Enable JavaScript. Leave the preferences dialog open.
Close the malicious window or tab.
Re-enable JavaScript and close the preferences dialog.
4. If the Preferences menu item is grayed out, quit Safari. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. None of the windows and tabs will reopen.
After closing the malicious page, from the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.

Do any of you know how the length of a string is being calculated in Java and JavaScript? For example, a regular char is just counted as 1 char, but sometimes other chars such as CR, LF, and CR LF are counted as two. I know there are differences in the way Java and JavaScript calculate the length of a string, but I can't find any sort of "rules" on those anywhere online.

I assume it would return the number of chars in the array, rather than the number of symbols (glyphs?) this translates into. But I might have it bass ackwards.

The "link related" and "text related" crashes were what I interpretted here, too, though I'm at a loss on how to proceed given that this is a fresh system and applications. This is happening with multiple InDesign projects in a design office environment where many others work on the same files and none of the other computers are having problems with these files. I've removed the same files listed (thank you for those) before and did so effectively with creating the new user account to test with, but it had no effect. I just tried again though, as these files could easily have becone corrupt again if they were being written to when InDesign crashed. Will let you know if that makes any difference. I've also gone through and completely cleaned out the fonts again and once more cleared the font caches. If need be I'll reboot this system into safe mode and try that way.

How do I find out if Keep Itunes Media Folder Organized option is enabled on Windows. My Java application needs to know this because it effects how it should interact with iTunes and last time I looked the api provided by the iTunes.dll doesnt provide this information.
I have made some progress looking at iTunesPrefs.xml which stores preferences in a binary plist format and have mananged to extract the location of the iTunes xml file using a Java library called dd-plist

However the Keep Itunes Media Folder Organized option appears to be stored in the Documents:132 key with other options and this library doesnt seem able to decode the daat into a base64encoded value. I did think I could just compare differences between the file after enabling/disabling the option in iTunes, but the results are inconclusive - sometimes after chnaging the option the preferences file doesnt seem to change.
Is there a known hack for this ?

Thanks that certainly a possible workaround that I can see working but Im not that keen on using a users file as a test file, or adding a file myself that I have to keep deleting.
The thing is I'm very close, I've found a library that can read the binary xml format to some degree, and managed to decode the Xml Library File sucessfullly (but I don't need to this as available as the in the COM lib anyway as itunes.getLibraryXMLPath())
but I cannot decode this option whihc is lumped in with others, real shame they dont provide it via the COM lib.

Passing vars...JSP resolves faster than javascript - is there a workaround?

The variable/value ("fieldA") that I want to pass from "frame1.jsp" to "frame2.jsp is actually a variable defined javascript function "getTest()" in "frame1.jsp".
I want to pass "fieldA" from "frame1.jsp" to "frame2.jsp"..
"frame2" is initially "blank.html. In the "getTest()" function I use (parent.frames[2].location = "frame2.jsp";) to create frame2.jsp inside of "frame2"
I generat a "post" request (from "frame1.jsp") assigning "fieldA" to a hidden form field ("fldA") in "frame2", and then display the value of "fldA" using "<%= request.getParameter("fldA") %>"...
But the value of hidden form field - "fldA" - is initially "null" because when "frame2.jsp" page is creatd, the JSP scriplets resolve before the javascript "getData" function can resolve. (if I click to post frame2.jsp again, the value shows - but, that's just because the frame2.jsp now exists.)
Is there a work around?.... Or, do I need to have "frame1.jsp" call a servlet to pass "fieldA" ????
Appreciate ANY help on this!!!!
(NOTE -- actually, my real world need will be to assign the value to a Custom Tag parameter, rather than simply display - and that is why I need to get this to work!)

So where to start...
1) session does not have a method "getParameter()" (frame0.jsp) so I don't know how you can get this to work.
2) When you call "javascript:getTest()" the scriptlet is not run again. It's serverside so it is execute on the server then any return data is placed where you have the scriptlet.
3) The scriptlets in "frame0.html" will not work as the page is declared as html.
4) Once again jsp scriptlets (including TagLibraries) are server side components. Any values passed to them should be via a request or session setting on the server side.
For example:
Say we have a tag "myWorkingTag" that outputs the value we assign to "valToUse" on the page.
original jsp document (page.jsp):

You can assign the "valToUse" attribute using <%="xyz"%> (or session.getAttribute() or request.getParameter()) on the server side but ultimately you need to send the value to the server and recompile the page.

What you should be aiming for is either:
A) Using the above code, send all your required parameters to the form in frame2.jsp and use these parameters to configure the page. As you can see I added an "if(request.getParameter("fldA")!=null)" block to prevent any code from being execute until you send the data.
B) In frame1.jsp, submit it to itself with all the parameters you need and add the objects to the session. When frame1.jsp returns the page to the browser, get it to call a javascript function (<body onload='...'>") to reload frame2.jsp and collect the objects/variables from the session.
Just remember Javascript and Java in JSP's don't exist in the same "world" so to speak. They have to cross a bridge to communicate, the bridge being the action of the form.

If I deploy a new version of the solution after some changes in javascript file which is deployed to the layouts folder the old version is used. The only fix I have found so far is to change the URL of the javascript file with some fake querystring like
"?v=2". But this requires another deployment. So I am asking for an alternative approach.

there is no clean solution for your problem. Browsers cache files by url, you can avoid caching appending in query string unique value per deployment. For example
_layouts/my_js_file.js?v=<current date> - will be refreshed from cache when day changes
_layouts/my_js_file.js?v=<GUID> - if guid is generated on every request, this file should never cache
_layouts/my_js_file.js?v=<product version> - more preferable solution, browser will update cache on every new version that was deployed
Actually, ScriptLink should take care about this, internally it has a method that appends unique id into query string based on js file content, if content changed, hash is also changed and new unique id is generated.
