How do I enable Javascript in Foxfire 29.0?

about:config does not give me a box with preferences so I can toggle Javascript on/off. When I try to download the add-ons for enabling Javascript to be toggled, they won't download -- I get a message that they are not compatible with Firefox 29.0.
I need Javascript to access the websites I most frequently use: my banks, my credit cards, my Gmail accounts, and YouTube.
None of the articles on Javascript seem to apply to my situation: I get a message that Javascript is NOT enabled.
I am running it in Windows 7, Service Pack 1.

This solution didn't work, because the page was redirecting and never arrived. It might have been because I was using Internet Explorer, which also is not Javascript enabled -- but the Mozilla Support Forum requires Javascript enabled in order to access it!
I used Chrome, and was able to toggle it when the about:config field ''finally'' opened. The originally posted instructions omitted the instruction that the command about:config will only work if you do it from the Firefox home screen, where the orange word 'Firefox' appears at the beginning of the destination.

I've just downloaded the newest available Foxfire (29.0) in the hope I can access my gmail account. But it still says "Javascript is not enabled". about:config does NOT show a preferences menu, so I can't toggle Javascript on. You can modify the installation package using the Adobe Customization Wizard to toggle the "Display PDF in Browser" but I have not found a setting to disable JavaScript from the Wizard. I have created a script which makes the changes, but it has to be run for every user since that info is stored in the User hive of the Windows registry.

The website may have a preference for Flash before using Javascript. Try a different browser like Skyfire (or whatever.) Regardless, if it's using Flash, it's probably not going to work very well with the iPad.

Just an FYI, Java is not the same a Javascript. Safari on the iPad has Javascript, but not all websites work correctly with mobile versions of web browsers.

Yes, you can no longer do this in Tools > Options > Content.
That setting has been removed from the user interface, so you need to check the related javascript.enable pref on the about:config page instead to make sure it is set to true.

I am trying to secure my Firefox so that by default all scripting is disabled, but can be enabled on per-URL basis. It seems that Firefox itself doesn't have an option for that, and I have to use add-ons. Unfortunately, all add-ons I tried, including NoScript, require javascript to be globally enabled in Firefox (Tools -> Options -> Content -> Enable Javascript). Then they apply their settings, including whitelist. I am not satisfied with this kind of solution, because if something prevents an add-on from running or forces it to stop, the global setting of "enable javascript" kicks in and suddenly all pages can use scripting.
1) Is it technically possible to get a per-URL control with "Enable Javascript" set to disabled?
2) Is there any kind of UI where I could set it so? There are very few websites where I allow javascript, so even something like manually creating an extension is fine with me.

You can't disable JavaScript globally. 
If you do that then it isn't possible to enable it in specific cases. 
The only way is to enable JS globally and either disable it by default (NoScript) or enable it by default (YesScript) and change the setting for a specific web page.
Adblock Plus also can block JavaScript.

I have read the solution on about:config solution in the original post, but when I when there, I found Java is already enabled - the default configuration.
I am running Noscript, yet I am prompted on virtually every page, to allow or forbid scripting for that page. How am I to know whether any particular site has malicious scripts on it? First, I cannot see the scripts, secondly I don't understand or know what the scripts actually DO, and thirdly, I'm not a coder so the whole field is out of my depth (i.e. deciding whether or not a script is "malicious").
One other thing: there are prompts to allow several sites, but how does a user know if any of them is safe or malicious? Any site could be hacked...including YOURS.
One more thing: when I tried to submit this question, I received an "ACCESS DENIED" error and when I returned to my question page, all my typing had been erased. I have had to retype everything. It seems I did not allow google analytics to submit, but why should this be necessary??
I like being protected from myself, but how do I know "MYSELF" is a danger, when Java is enabled by default, in reality every user is exposed to dangers by default.

Also, if Java is enabled, it implies that Noscript doesn't DISABLE it...I don't understand this. However Noscript is obviously working from the number of discrete pages I have to allow.

I read the information given on the site about enabling Java Script, but it does not work. Under my tools/options menu, the site's instructions say to click on Firefox. There is no title of Firefox in my options box. Going through the list of General, Tabs, Content, Applications, Privacy, Security, Sync and Advanced, there is nothing under any of them titled Preferences or any box that says to enable anything. Thank you. Javascript was enabled, and I have the latest Adobe flash player as instructed by YouTube. I'll post the same issue there- it's a safe bet that I'm not the only one experiencing a problem.

Since I updated to FF25 I can't enable JavaScript which I need for sites I use.
I have the latest Java 7 version 45 but there is no plug-in appearing for Java.
I added Quickjava 2.0.2 I think this is the version, and clicked to enable java.
But when I visit the sites that require JavaScript I get an error message saying JavaScript not enabled.
When I test the java 'latest version' test from Java's web site using FF java cannot be detected, but it can when I do the same test using Safari.
How do I fix this?

In my web page, I am calling a JavaScript function using the onLoad attribute of the <body> tag. I am using the Navigator object to determine that the browser is Firefox. I then attempt to access the extension classes using the following code on lines 51 and 52 of the Download.js file:

Please make sure that the Javascript is enabled on you IE.
To do this, please go to Control Panel->Internet
Options, click on security tab,
click on customer level button. Please scroll
down to Scripting, underScripting
of Java applets, click enable.
OR
Please try to start the Internet Explorer with option "Run as Administrator" to see whether it works.
