How do I enable keychain access?

When I open Safari I am asked to give a password for keychain. I don't remember that password and recently changed the password using the installation disk method. I tried to look for the keychain access after changing the password, but was unsuccessful. Where do I find the keychain access? And if it is uninstalled or disabled how do I fix that?

  • How do I overcome Keychain access "Access to this item is restricted".  I need to view a password stored in Keychain

I am the adminstrator and only user of this MacBook.  I need to see an internet password which is not stored on my browser or email client.  When I go into Keychain Access and check the Show Password box it asks for Keychain password - that is no problem. Enter password, hit OK, then the message comes up Access to this item is restricted.  I have gone into File - Get Info and made it read and write to Administrsators, System, Wheel and myself but it still says Restricted.  Any ideas anyone PLEASE!!

I posted the same question elsewhere, but after poking around I discovered the following, which might be helpful.
Open Keychain Access, which is in your Applications/Utilities folder.  There should be two sections on the left sidebar, Keychains and Category.  When I opened it, only the Category section showed, but I eventually found an arrow which expanded the Keychains section.
Choose Login in the Keychains section, and "Passwords" in the Category section.  Use the search field to find the program you need the password for, and double-click on it.  A window with that program's label will open.  Under the Attributes tab, click on the little Show Password checkbox.  You'll be asked for your admin password.  Once you've entered it, the password will appear in the Show Password field.
As an aside, I thought this is what I was doing all along, so here's another thing I did before it started working:  I found Keychain First Aid and ran both the Verify and Repair options.  Both of these reported no problems, but it might have done something to encourage things to work right.*
*As you can tell, I anthropomorphize my electronic devices.  It's the only way to cope with the way they misbehave.

I want to get rid of that annoying keychain access prompt for a user on OSX 10.6...

  • How do I unlock keychain access?

I keep getting popups requestiing keychain password. I tried to reset it to my log in password. Still doing the same thing. It is very annoying even though it disappears when I hit cancel. This just started in the past two weeks, and I have had my MacBook Pro for one year. I reset the login password a month ago.

  • Keychain: How to enable automatic access for certain applications?

I have gotten really tired of Adium and Skype asking for the keychain password every time I reboot the machine, and Quicksilver neeing my system password all the time when installing updates.
How do I enable automatic access to the keychain and system password for certain applications, but not all?
    PowerBook G4, 1.5 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi, Bjørn.
    A. You wrote: "I have gotten really tired of Adium and Skype asking for the keychain password every time I reboot the machine..."There are two things to check. You'll use Keychain Access — in the Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities folder — for both.
One key point to note before you begin: If the affected account was created under Jaguar, it's default keychain will have the same name as the account's short name. Accounts created under Panther or later have the default keychain name of "login." The user's default keychain is always highlighted in bold in the Keychains list in Keychain Access. All of the instructions in Mac Help regarding keychain assume the accounts were created under Tiger and always refer to keychain "login."
Here are the two issues to check and correct:
    1. The affected account may have its keychain preferences set so that the keychain locks automatically after a period of inactivity or after sleep mode:1.1. Select the user's default keychain.
1.2. Click Edit > Change Settings for Keychain "keychain_name."
1.3. Deselect the checkbox next to "Lock after __ minutes of inactivity", if selected.
1.4. Deselect the checkbox next to "Lock when sleeping", if selected.
1.5. Click Save.2. The affected account's login password and keychain password are different. Set the keychain password on that account to be the same as the account's login password. See “Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Changing your keychain password.”
Once those steps are taken, if an application requests access to the keychain, click Always Allow.
Note that if you update applications, i.e. install later versions, you may be asked once to confirm the new version's access to your keychain. That's a standard security precaution.
    B. You wrote: "...Quicksilver neeing my system password all the time when installing updates."That cannot be prevented if that application is installed in the Macintosh HD > Applications folder using an installer, such as the Mac OS X Installer. Authentication is required if an installer will add or change files in either Applications or other System-related folders.
    Good luck!

  • IIS 6.0 and Tomcat 5.0.30, how to enable anonymous access?

    Dear All,
Thanks to Adam Krouskop's great guide (2003) i got IIS 6 and Tomcat 5 working together using the isapi connector. But.... IIS won't give anonymous access to my Tomcat web-apps.
When i go to http://localhost/jsp-examples it pops up a login window, when I enter my administrator username and password it will log me on and everything works fine. But how do i enable anonymous access??
This might not be best place to post this question but I know there's people out here who know. Thanks in advance.
    Greetings from Holland. T.

This is probably way too late to help you out but I just ran into the same problem with IIS 6.0. The thing that is missing from the connector instructions is that it does not tell you to add the DLL as a web service extension. Here is how to do that after adding the ISAPI filter:
    1) In the IIS manager, right-click on Web Service Extensions. Choose "Add a new Web service extension...".
    2) Type in a meaninful name for the extension, like "tomcat".
    3) Click the "Add" button.
    4) Type the full pathname for the isapi_redirect.dll file or click "Browse" button to find it.
    5) Check the "Set extension status to Allowed" checkbox.
    6) Click "OK" to add the new extension. Verify by clicking on Web Service Extensions folder and seeing the new one in the right-hand pane.
    7) Now go ahead and restart IIS as in the original instructions.
Hope this helps someone in the future...

  • How do I recover keychain passwords?

My PB hardrive crashed, but I managed o copy my "Macintosh HD" to an external drive.
Now I'm re installing all my software and I realized I lost all my passwords.
Is there a way to recover them using keychain?
I tried to open the keychain application on my FW drive but it won't open.
I would really appreciate the help.
    Thanks in advance!

Neither password can be recovered, but you can reset or change them.
Changing or resetting an account password (Lion):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274
Scroll down to Resetting the original administrator account password. Try the procedure under reset your user password with your Apple ID.
If that does not work for whatever reason you can also use the following technique:
Restart your Mac while holding down the ⌘ and R keys at the same time until you see the Lion Recovery screen.
From the menu bar at the top, select Utilities > Terminal.
In the Terminal window type resetpassword and press Enter. A window will open behind Terminal that looks like this
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD" in the above screenshot), choose your user account from the dropdown selection, enter a new password, complete the password hint field, and click Save.
You may then see a confirmation dialog explaining how this change affects Keychain Access and what to do about it. Remember it or write it down, then click OK.
    Quit Reset Password
    Quit Terminal
Quit OS X Utilities and restart your Mac.
To fix your Keychain problems, go to your Utilities folder and open Keychain Access. Follow the steps here: Mac OS X: Keychain Access asks for keychain "login" after changing login password.
As it says, if you do not remember your original login or keychain password, your only alternative is to delete the Keychain. Not a big deal, you just have to remember or recreate all the passwords you used for websites that require them.

  • How do I stop Keychain pop up from prompting me for my password

    Hey,
I'm using Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Lync, and the company work for makes me change my password every 90 days. I recently had a problem where i couldn't log into Outlook because keychain access was trying to log into Outlook with my older passwords. I finally got that done by deleting the old passwords, and no longer want to save my passwords in keychain. However, I have a lot of convenient passwords save in keychain, and don't want to loose them. How can I disable keychain access for only my Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Lync, where everything else is fine? I want to keep using keychain access for other tools, websites etc, but not for outlook/Lync- Can you guys help, please?

I had the same problem for a long time - do the following :
    Go to Finder.
In the top menu select Go.
    Select Go to Folder.
    Enter ~/Library/Keychains.
Delete All Keys Related to OC_KeyContainer.

  • Using Keychain Access - enable ocsp protocol

I would like to enable OCSP.
In keychain Access -> preferences -> certificaes I can enable the CRL or OCSP functionality.
    The options available are:
    - Off: No revocation checking will be performed.
    - Best Attempt: The certificate passes unless an indication of a bad certificate is
    returned from the server.
    - Require if Cert Indicates: If the URL to the revocation server is provided in the
certificate, this setting requires a successful connection to a revocation server and no
    indication of a bad certificate.
    - Require for All Certs: This setting requires successful validation of all certificates. It is
most useful in a tightly controlled environment that guarantees the presence of a
    CRL server or OCSP responder.
    - Priority: Determines which method (OCSP or CRL) is attempted first. If the first
method chosen returns a successful validation, the second method is not attempted.
The problem is that the "Require if Cert Indicates" and "Require for All Certs" options are disabled and I do not know how to enable them.
Howto can I enable this options on keychain access?
    Regards
    Giovanni.

In tiger OSX, the Require if Cert Indicates and Require for All Certs options in keychain Acces are available.
But I have not found how enable this options in keychain Access of Leopard 10.5.6.

  • How can I authorize and access my itunes account on a new computer if I cant access my old computer to enable home sharing

How can I authorize and access my itunes account on a new computer if I cant access my old computer to enable home sharing

    Authorization
Macs:  iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
To deauthorize a computer you don't have:
De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • In onLoad JavaScript, I'm getting "Error: Permission denied to access property 'classes'" when I access Components.classes; how do I enable that permission?

I need to emulate several ActiveX functions in my client's web application. I have located several Mozilla web pages that describe how to do the things I need, and I have attempted to implement those instructions. However, I can't seem to get past the first line of code. In my web page, I am calling a JavaScript function using the onLoad attribute of the <body> tag. I am using the Navigator object to determine that the browser is Firefox. I then attempt to access the extension classes using the following code on lines 51 and 52 of the Download.js file:
    var C = Components;
    var CC = C.classes;
The Web Console gives me these two messages:
[13:51:55.621] The Components object is deprecated. It will soon be removed. @ http://distribution:781/NewDDI/DownLoad.js:51
[13:51:55.621] Error: Permission denied to access property 'classes' @ http://distribution:781/NewDDI/DownLoad.js:52
How do I enable adequate permission to be able to access the Components classes?

I think Components is available only in extensions (or otherwise privileged code) and not in ordinary web pages.

  • How to export Keychain Access in 10.7.3?

    Hello.
How to export Keychain Access in 10.7.3?
In Leopard user was able to exort it easily with one click. Then in 10.7.1 I would go to Library>Keychain>and copy the folders. Now there are no folders just a couple of files. Is that it?

That depends on what you want to keep. You can view the contents of each in Keychain Access.

How do I fix Mountain Lion issue after login where Keychain Access attempts to open, hanging up with "application not responding" message?

You could try booting into Safe Mode to see if that will help. And "Repair Permissions" in Disk Utility.
Have you got Keychain set to open on Login or is it attempting to open on it's own.
