  • HT4908 how do I enable back to my mac

I'm not sure how to enable bac to my mac laptop. I'm not sure Icloud set up correctly.  I have a mac desktop and a mac laptop and would like to share information.  Having trouble with the icloud back to my mac set up.

I am able to use Back to My Mac (BTMM) after obtaining an iCloud account.  To get both File Sharing and Screen Sharing to work between my Mac Mini and my Mac Pro (both running Lion 10.7.2), here is what I did:
On both machines (or however many Macs you have), click on System Preferences --> Users & Groups
Make sure that the email address listed next to "Apple ID" is your iCloud ID (i.e. [email protected])
Also go to System Preferences --> Sharing and make sure that File Sharing and Screen Sharing are both checked.
After you have changed these settings on each Mac, start Finder.  Your shared Mac icon should be visible in the sidebar under Shared.  If not, go into the Finder Preferences and under the Sidebar tab, make sure Back to My Mac is checked under the Shared heading.
If you still have problems, try restarting both Macs.
To use File Sharing, start Finder and click the icon for your shared Mac under Shared.  In the top right corner of the window, there is a button labeled, "Connect As..."  Click this and enter your iCloud ID and password.  To use Screen Sharing, click "Share Screen..." and enter the same information.
    I hope this helps,

  • With FileVault enabled will Find My Mac work?

If a Mac laptop has FileVault enabled on Lion will location services like Find My Mac be able to locate a lost or stolen Mac laptop?
If not then the data on one's laptop would be secure but you'd probably never get your laptop back.
    lenn

Find My Mac is currently not supported in Mac OS X.
As FileVault 2 requires a passphrase, so the guest user can neither start the system, nor log in to a system that is already started.

  • How can I edit the Find my Mac Application

I have just added the find my Mac application/ feature for my Mac Book Pro,
and there is no name for it

It's not a stand alone application; it is part of iCloud - you should be able to find it in the iCloud Pane in System Preferences. Here is some info on it:

P.S. Edit: I just saw you profile - you are on 10.6.7?? You need Lion to have iCloud.

  • How can I enable the "find my ipad" button in the icloud screen?

I have had my Ipad mini for about a year but never thought to enable the "find my ipad" feature.  When I go into the icloud screen under settings it gives me lot of options but the "find my ipad" button appears in light grey font and won't allow me to turn it on.  It is the only feature on this page that I can't change.  Any ideas?

You must have a valid Apple ID installed, and a valid iCloud account.  Check your iCloud account information and see that it matches your Apple ID.

  • How to differentiate machines in Find My Mac

Our family has 3 MacBook Airs. When I run Find My Mac in iCloud, all three MBA's have the same name.
What setting names the computer for this purpose, such that I can change it to differentiate between all the units?
Edit: Nevermind. I found it in Sharing Preferences.

I don't understand.  I gather she has lost her device and is trying to find it - right?  If she uses a computer's browser to long into icloud.com using the ID that the lost device was logged into, then in the Find My iPhone page, she will either find it listed in the devices or not.  If not, then there's no way she can locate it.

  • How do I enable cookies on my mac book pro?

I am using Firefox and one of my sites I often use now states I have to enable java script and cookies.  I have checked & Java script is enabled but I cannot find anything regarding cookies under security or privacy.  I am running the latest version of IOS which I updated a few days ago.

    Hi
I'm not using Safari though...I'm using Firefox and there is nothing under Settings or Privacy that mentions cookies.  I've been told Firefox is 100 x better than Safari and safer.
Thanks, hopefully you can help with this

  • I have multiple macs yet I only see one mac listed.  How do I add another mac to the cloud account and have the find my mac enabled?

I have more than one mac.  I have moved my account to iCloud but I cannot seem to enable the Find my Mac to recognize the second mac.  Any ideas as to how to accomplish this?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Every Mac that you wish to appear in the listings for "find my Mac/phone" must be logged into the same iCloud account and have "find my Mac" enabled in system preferences> iCloud.

  • Enable "find my mac" option

Does anyone know how to enable the "Find my Mac" option in Lion?
I've checked the MobileMe control panel, tried adding an iCloud account (running iOS 5 Beta 3 on iPhone - so have an account), looked in System Prefs etc.
    I'm probably being dumb!
    Thanks for your help

OK - found the answer - and yes it's me being dumb.
Needed to install iCloud Beta Plug-in for Lion from iOS Development portal.
    Simple really!

  • "Recovery system update required." for Find My Mac -- after already updated!

I've run the latest round of updates on My 2011 MacBook Pro, and I have run into a snag with the new iCloud control panel.
I want to enable the "Find My Mac" feature, but unfortunately I am not able to, as the checkbox is grayed out. There is an error beside the control saying that I need to update the recovery system as per the title of this thread. I actually already *did* do this earlier today, however, and there are no other updates.
What is going on here? Is it possible that the update didn't actually install properly? I was away from the computer at the time it rebooted and would have installed that portion, so I can't tell, but if I look in the update history, I see "Lion Recovery Update 1.0" from today in the list.
Is anyone else having this problem? I wonder if it's just a buggy update   Hopefully this will be fixed soon by Apple in a subsequent update, but I'm curious if there's something I can do in the meantime.

Run Disk Utility, and Verify Disk.
You will likely notice errors that require you to reboot to the Recovery Partition, and run Disk Utility from there, to "Repair Disk".
After running Repair Disk, reboot to the main partition, and run Repair Permissions from Disk Utility.
Then install the Recovery System Update again.
I bet your problem will be solved.

  • How do I enable Find My Mac from a Standard User Account

    Hi there,
I'm trying to enable Find My Mac from a Standard User account via System Preferences > iCloud, but it says Administrator authorization is required. However, there is no padlock like other System Preferences panes have to enable Administrator access.
If I log into the Administrator user, it doesn't have iCloud set up.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Yes, Its registered. clcking on icloud shows Icloud is unticked and no option to enable it as its greyed out. That is the part I am trying to overcome. Also It shows "recovery system update required" just below find my mac and an update button next to that. When I then click on update, it says system up to date. I have been told this issue could be attributed to Filevault. I disabled Filevault (after 5 hours of waiting), Doing so now meant I was able to enable guest user on this machine. but that  means my data is not encrypted and the option to enable find my mac still not available.
I am in the process of re-enabling filevault. Another 4 hours to go. So as you can see, I am really stuck.

  • How do I enable sounds in the finder in 10.8.2?

When I deleted a file in the Finder or emtied the trash I would have a sound that I don't have in ML.
How do I enable it? Do I need Tinker Tool, or am I missing a setting somewhere?
    Thanks

    HI,
    So...
Like mine it reads Headphones but is in fact a device that is plugged in to that Socket.
You can see that I have some Extra (Custom) sounds and these are stored in ~/Library/Sounds.
Do you have any additional Sounds ?
If yours are Built-in (System) ones only which ones are listed ?
The System ones are the ones you were talking about at the beginning.
In Messages > Preferences > Alerts are the ones for Messages  (They are tucked away in the App).
Do the Sounds Play in Messages when you test/change them ?
Select the current choice showing in the sound choice drop down to Play in Messages.
This volume may be different to the System Alerts as they are played by different methods.
Does Skype have similar sounds for Logging in, Inviting and connecting and so forth ?
Can you hear those ?  (either in the App or as Alert sounds in normal use)
