How do I encrypt QuickTime movies?

I need to make some QuickTime movies available for review by associates. The movies have to be secure; that is, they can't be publicly viewable. The movies have to be playable in QuickTime Player on the desktop so the reviewers can see the Player's time index counter. (Embedding the movies in a web page is no good; the QuickTime browser plugin's controller has no time index counter.)
If I store the movies on a password-protected server, QuickTime Player's *Open URL* menu command won't open the movies. Apparently the Player doesn't know what to do when it encounters a password-protected address. It just sits there and does nothing.
QuickTime apparently has the ability to play encrypted movies, though. The user adds a "media key" in QuickTime's Preferences:Advanced:Media Keys dialog, which key is provided by the author who encrypted the movie.
An encrypted movie could be stored on a non-password-protected site. In other words, the movie could be publicly available as long as it's not publicly viewable.
The question is, how to encrypt QuickTime movies, and how to generate a "media key"?

Never mind. I solved the problem—without encrypting the movie files.

    How do I make quicktime movies Fullscreen in iWeb? Can anyone help me please?

    You have to create a QTL file that opens the QT movie in the player. Based on the settings it opens in Full Screen.
    You may want to read this:

    An alternative is to publish your movies to Vimeo and embed the movie in your page. These movies can play full screen.
    Or use DivX of Flash Video.

  • How to crop a QuickTime movie to delete black top and bottom areas?

    How to crop a QuickTime movie? I mean, a ".mov" movie that shows a black area on top and bottom, which I want to delete.
    I have tried with iMovie 8.0.5, yet its "Window - Cropping..." to fit, crop and Ken burns does not allow to select the area that I want, which is extra wide.
    Thanks.

    How to crop a QuickTime movie? I mean, a ".mov" movie that shows a black area on top and bottom, which I want to delete.
    Basically, you have two options. 1) You can use an application like MPEG Streamclip (free) which allows you to reset the top/bottom/left/right screen edges (i.e., crop the active viewing area) and then re-compress the remaining content as a new file (as recommended by QTKirk) or 2) if you have QT Pro, you can simply "mask" the player display which crops the display screen to the desired mask dimension and location within the original area. The advantage of the latter work flow is not having to re-compress the file which can be very time consuming. Since the latter method may seem confusing to some, I have prepared a "quickie" tutorial which may be able to "talk" you through the process:

  • How to protect a Quicktime Movie?

    Hi
    How can you Password protect a Quicktime Movie and what's the effect? Can you do this with Quicktime Pro, with another Software, can you do it at all?
    Simon

    There's really no good way to password protect a QuickTime movie other than to wrap in a archive of some sort that can accept a password, such as a StuffIt archive, or a password-protected disk image (which wouldn't be cross-platform). QuickTime does support media keys, but to the best of my knowledge only the Sorenson codec ever supported them and I'm not sure of the current state of support for media keys in QuickTime at all.

  • How to create a Quicktime movie using Cocoa QTKit

    I am trying to find some example code on how to create a short Quicktime movie in a Cocoa app. The sample code I've seen so far is all for capturing the frames from an external source (e.g. camera).
    Also, I am looking for how to control the compression engine to ensure that I can create a small Quicktime file if there is a lot of frames with small amounts of change in them.
    Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

  • How do get a QuickTime movie to play?

    I have a QuickTime movie on one of my web pages. It is located here: http://www.bagsnaggers.com/ourhistory.html
    It seems to play fine on Macs, which I use and where I created it, but I have been looking at some Windows computers and it doesn't seem to play. I can get other QuickTime movies to play on them, so I know QuickTime is installed; other movies seem to open automatically and start to play. But on Windows machines, when I click my movie nothing happens. There's a little icon in the corner, but right-clicking, option-clicking, etc. does nothing. I have asked friends with Windows and QuickTime to see if they can play it, but no luck. Can anyone tell me how I should put the movie up on my page so that people who have Windows with QuickTime can play it? Many thanks for help.

    If you encode the video for Flash, the most common format used on YouTube, then people will be able to view the video as long as they have Flash Player installed. Without Flash, they can't see YouTube videos, so there's still something that some people may have to install. More and more videos, particularly those intended for playback on iPhones, are using h.264, so you may just want to tell people that they need QuickTime 7 to play your videos. Your choice, of course.

  • How to make a Quicktime movie start when I want, not automatically?

    Is there any way to control when a Quicktime movie starts playing? I can pause and resume it pressing the K key, but I would like the ability to start a movie inside a slide clicking a key or the mouse.
    Any ideas?

    Hugo, in Keynote movies automatically start whenever they appear on a slide, either because they have "built in" on a slide, or because the slide they are on has transitioned in (and the movie has no build itself).
    Given this, there are two ways to control the start of a movie. One is to put the movie on a separate slide, and advance to that slide when you want the movie to start. If you like, you can do a screenshot of the first frame of the movie and put that on the prior slide, so that it looks like the movie is paused on the first frame, and when you click, it runs. If there is no transition effect used on the second slide, the audience won't be aware that you have used two slides to achieve this effect.
    The other way to control the start is to assign a build to the movie, so that it builds in on a click. Again, you can have the first still from the movie already on the slide, and then, when you want to play the movie, have it build in directly on top of the still -- this will again give the appearance of a stopped movie suddenly starting up.

  • How do you view quicktime movies from MAC to TV?

    I'd like to view quicktime movies from my MacBook Pro to HDTV. What do I need to do?

    Not every retailer carries mini-DP to HDMI adaptors, so you might want to call ahead. If you find one, make sure that it carries audio - some won't. You can certainly find them online. Apple normally stocks a Moshi version which supports audio, but they're back-ordered at the moment. If you have trouble finding them locally, try newegg.com.
    Edit: meant to add, a newer option is to get an AppleTV v3 connected to your TV, connect it to your wireless network, and mirror your Macbook Pro to the AppleTV using Airplay Mirroring. May even not be much more expensive than the adaptor+cable option. Details here:

  • How to play a Quicktime movie in Powerpoint 2010

    Powerpoint 2010 is supposed to be able to play Quicktime movies as long as Quicktime Player is installed on the computer.  I have the player installed but the MOV video won't play.  My Powerpoint is 32-bit, running on 64-bit Windows 7.  According to what I've read the Quicktime needs to be 32-bit as well for this to work, but I don't know if the player I have installed is 32-bit or 64-bit.  Any suggestions?

    Hi,
    There may be 2 scenarios for this:
    1. The logo animation in the logo.swf is within a movieclip and has a stop() function called in the last frame.
    Solution:
    import flash.display.Loader;
    import flash.display.LoaderInfo;
    import flash.events.*;
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    var logoSWF:MovieClip;
    var timer:Timer = new Timer(1000);
    timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, playLogo);
    function loadLogo() {
        var url:String = "logo.swf";
        var loader:Loader = new Loader();
        loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
        loader.load(new URLRequest(url));
    function completeHandler(event:Event):void {
        timer.start();
        var loader:LoaderInfo = LoaderInfo( event.currentTarget );
        logoSWF = MovieClip( loader.content );
        addChild(logoSWF);
    function playLogo(event:Event=null):void {
        logoSWF.logo.play(); //"logo" is the instance name in logo.swf
    loadLogo();
    2. The logo animation in the logo.swf in in the main timeline and has astop() function in the main timeline.
    Solution:
    import flash.display.Loader;
    import flash.display.LoaderInfo;
    import flash.events.*;
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    var loader:Loader;
    var timer:Timer = new Timer(1000);
    timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, playLogo);
    function loadLogo() {
        var url:String = "logo1.swf";
        loader = new Loader();
        loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
        loader.load(new URLRequest(url));
    function completeHandler(event:Event):void {
        timer.start();
        var loader:LoaderInfo = LoaderInfo( event.currentTarget );
        addChild(loader.content);
    function playLogo(event:Event=null):void {
        MovieClip( loader.content ).play();
    loadLogo();
    Hope this helps.
    Warm Regards
