How do I enforce password to wake across all accounts?

Hi
I want my computer to automatically lock itself if left unused for a period of time - no matter who is logged in. I can achieve this for an individual account by checking the "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver" box in Security Preferences and setting the display to sleep after a period.
Is there any way to enforce this across all user accounts and prevent those settings from being changed by anyone other than the administrator?

The information resides in this location:
~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver.machineID.plist
To achieve your goal you need to copy this file with the correct applied settings to every user home directory and later apply permissions that users can only read but not write to this file.

I don't if having a password on wakeup will fix your problem or if it does why it does, but you can set this by doing the following.
Open System Preferences
Click on Security & Privacy
Make sure the General tab is selected at the top
Tick (enable) the 'Require password - immediately - after sleep or screen saver begins'

Icon Resizing, How do I set a default size across all windows?

Anyone know how to set the default icon size? I can resize them in each window, but I want to resize all of them across all windows. They are all so small now and I want to make all finder windows show the bigger size.

You're wrong. Every window that you open for the first time inherits whatever
you set as the defaults via view options. Previously opened windows retain
whatever settings they had previously.
Wrong here. The newly opened window get the settings of the previously opened window IF the check box of the Command-J window is not checked.
If the last opened window have "text on the right", text size to 9, and you close it and open a window who do not have the CheckBox [open in Icons] checked, your window will inherit the previously opened window settings (even if it was closed before you open the window)...
And I do not talk about reboot because I have TROUBLES with that on my SL machine (clean, very clean install [three times!]).
About the only thing you can't choose is how large
the window is when first opened. To reset everything, run this command in the
Terminal: copy & paste, hit the return key, and at the Password: prompt,
carefully type in your admin password, and hit the return key.

When I change a tag in one chapter, how do I get it to update across all chapters?

I just updated a TableTitle tag. When I clicked Update All, it fixed everything in that chapter. I have 17 chapters and need the TableTitle tag to be updated across all the chapters.
How do I do that? I hope I don't have to copy the code and fix the tag in each chapter...I'm sure that is the long, unnecessary route.

This is what I was doing wrong: I was going File>Import formats but hadn't selected the files, so I was wondering why nothing was changing. Ha! Small steps.
Follow up question: When I'm in the Import Formats box, why do I selected just the Paragraph Formats and not the Table Formats box when it is a table format that I just fixed? That's another thing I was doing--selecting Table Formats and then updating.

My requirement is that my application which is attached to the portal has access to many concurrent users. I have a screen for which there is a edit button, on click of which i need to restrict other users from edit . This is based on portal ID and another unique id for that screen.I thought of lock object but i guess that wouldnt help me b'se i am not writing anything to the database but need to restrict users in controlling the editability of the UI element.In this scenario user can be same user with different application or another user using this application.
So if i save those unique ID's acrros applications, i can validate and throw a message for other users when they try to do edit action when one user is already doing it.

Firstly please don't post in capitals: it comes over as shouting and IS CONSIDERED RUDE (see what I mean ).
iCloud handles its own email: it has no relationship whatever with any other email service. You can set other email services up separately in the Mail app and application on your devices and Macs, but you will only get the result you want if they are IMAP services (where, as with iCloud, the emails reside on the server and are read from there by the various devices). Many services are POP, where accessing an email results in its being downloaded to the device and usually removed from the server, and either way round sent emails remain only on the device which sent them.
If Rogers are providing you with a POP service you should ask whether they can provide an IMAP one. If not your only option would be to find another email service which can (or use iCloud).
You could, by the way, Bcc all sent messages to your iCloud address - they would of course turn up in the Inbox but they would be accessible on all devices.

How can I get a single ID for all accounts?

My migration from Mobile.me to iCloud has been a exercise in frustration.
I log into the Apple site with a .me address, my apple id is a .mac address.
I log into iTunes with a different id and password. If I buy an app on the iPhone
it won't sync to iTunes because I'm not authorized.
I called before when I wasn't allowed to verify an existing email registered
at Apple and was advised to created a new email address. I did but that was a kludgy fix.
I've called twice and can't seem to get anywhere at all with this. I would,
at this point, prefer to just delete all accounts with Apple and start over. Is
this possible? I'll forgo my last few months of paid iCloud access since
I'm sure I won't use it.

The inability to merge accounts has been around since they first started using Apple IDs. An issue almost ten years in the making, that one.
What I did was just use my Apple ID for my iTunes purchases and create the @me.com address to go with it. However, you can sign in with both on your devices to use one for your email and sycning and the other for purchases.

Mail lost all passwords and has taken all accounts offline

Using OS 10.9.4, Mail Version 7.3 (1878.6) and Keychain Version 9.0 (55153)
My mail went offline Saturday and I haven't been able to get back into it. I have verified access into all the accounts using Browser based access so have ruled out their being server issues etc.
Chrome kept asking me for passwords from keychain after the latest OS updates, I checked with Keychain and it stated that my Keychain file needed be repaired, so I selected repair, Chrome fixed and no longer asks. However now I cannot get into Mac Mail, all accounts are shown offline, it won't store any passwords and repeatedly asks me for passwords if I try and update or take the mailboxes on line.
If I go into Keychain I cannot unlock the keychain (ie click the padlock to unlock the login keychain) and I have nothing showing..
Is there any known issues with keychain? I don't know enough about it to try things without risking breaking it...
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

How can I enforce a time limit across 2 iMacs?

I have 2 iMacs in my house, 1 is my lil sister's iMac and one is mine, hers has gotten old and slow. On it she has parental controls allowing her to be on for certain times of the day for a certain amount of time. I'd like to make her account on my computer that she can use also, but I want to enforce the same parental controls as on the other iMac. My problem comes in with, how do I get the time limit to sync between the iMacs? So that she can't in theory use one imac till her 2 hours is up then come use mine for a bonus 2 hours; instead she should be restricted to 2 hours no matter wich iMac she divides up the time on.

I havent tried this but you might be able to sync the preference for parental controls between the two computers via sync software such as Chronosync, dropbox or maybe even iCloud. I dont know of any quick way to do that and this method is getting into a more advanced configuration. Its interesting to see in mountain lion that you can copy and paste the settings by clicking on the gear icon in System Preferences:Parental Controls. What system are you using on each machine?

What port & Authentication are you using?
Can you login with your credentials in a Browser using the same info?
In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the exact message?
Then click the Show Details button & Check again.
The Password rejection can confuse people since it's a catch all meaning...
This Password, Username, Authentication method... is not recognized on this Port to this Server, or a server end problem.
If using a browser to login via WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but one of the other ones.
The receiving email ports are:
IMAP is port 143
IMAP-SSL is port 993
POP is port 110
POP-SSL is port 995
Outgoing ports are...
SMTP and SMTP-SSL is on ports 25, 587 and 465. Port 587 has to be SSL, and port 465 is enforced TLS-wrapped and is generally used by Outlook users.

How do I globally change the font across all pages in a multi-page PDF document

I have a 500 page document. I suceeded in changing only the font on the first page using Acrobat Pro and selecting "Edit Text and Images", selecting "All" on the first page and changing the font. It worked perfectly. Now I want to apply that font change to the remaining 499 pages. Any ideas?

Sorry Bill, not how it works. You can select text across a page boundary using the normal multi-select tool for copying, but you cannot edit across a page boundary. If you try to activate the ETI tool from the Content Editing panel or use the context menu "Edit Text" item, Acrobat will trim the selection to the current page only.
The previous two responses are correct - you must either repeat the edit by hand on every page, or go back to the original document and make the changes there (which is the expected workflow for such a drastic alteration).

How to make change in Issue list across all project sites?

Hi,
We all have issue list in our project sites. We need to add some values to some of the columns in that issue list. The requirement is we need these changes to reflect in all the new sites. Also how to make these changes reflect in current existing sites.
Can anybody suggest a way to achieve this. One thing that i am aware of is creating a new project site template and associating it with EPT but that still not solves the issue for preexisting sites.
Please help asap.

If you have already created some sites. You would need to apply these changes either Programetically (Powershell or C#) or Manually.
However, you can take the following approach to avoid this problem in future. (i.e. Your "future" changes will appear in existing sites too). I am writing the procedure breifly but let me know if you need more details on this
1) Create a content type (e.g. "Project issues" at PWA level)
2) Associate this content type with the Issues List in your site template as well any existing project sites. Make it a default content type for Issue lists. save your site template
3) Create all your custom columns in this new Content type (changing OOB issue columns can break your reporting)
4) Your changes to content type should reflect in future sites as well as existing sites (whereever the content type was appiled)

How do I search for a file across all my macs on my network

I have three macs. Two operate wirelessly, one does not, but they are all part of the same network.
Does anyone know how to search all macs simultaneously for a particular file? I have leopard installed on all macs.

Apparently, the "Shared" search location button only shows up if you first connect to some 'sharepoint' from the Sidebar "SHARED" list and the sharepoint 'volume' then appears in the Sidebar "DEVICES" list. For me, not all 'volumes' do this -- just those that are really some sub-directory of a remote Mac do, but not (for instance) those that are that Mac's complete, top level startup volume.
BTW, even when the button does show up, the searches are very slow & usually don't find items on the remote Mac that I expect they should.
I think it is a bug, or more accurately an incompletely implemented feature.

HT2476 how can we share a single application across all users on a mac desktop?

My wife and I are attempting to balance our finances. We each have separate profiles on our Mac Desktop.21.5 in Late 2009 using OS X 10.9. However, we would like to access the same application from both of our accounts. Specificially, we downloaded iBank using her profile then mine then we created our own "combined" acoount.
If we could both access the same application from each of profiles and also the same shared iBank data file that would be ideal. But everytime we try a configuration, (sharing the data file, sharing the app) we are locked out on the next login.
Any suggests would be helpful.
