You must redeem the code on the gift certificate. Open the Mac App Store. Make sure that you are signed into your account (Store menu.) Click the Redeem link in the Quick Links on the Featured pane. Follow the on screen instructions.
Only after you have redeemed the certificate may you buy something with the credit.
UPDATE - I have been trying to offer you a screenshot for the last 5 minutes, but the stupid forum software won't accept one right now. Sorry about that.

You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists. If it doesn't work, there isn;t much anyone here can do for you. It may be a physical problem with your speakers.

Hi, I am asking about how to switch App store between countries. I have a US App store account, and it has about $50 in that (someone give me a gift card). The problem is when I am trying to switch App store to other countries, it will says "you must spend your balance before you can change stores". Is there any other ways that I can change my stores? Whilst you are in France you can only use the France store - you have to be in a country to use its store, that is part of the store's terms (accessing a different country's store could result in Apple permanently disabling the account).
You can either update your existing account to have your French billing address on it (changing country), or create a new account (you can log out of your account phone by tapping on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store and you can then create a new account via that screen).

You would have to be located inside the borders of the U.S and have a U.S. iTunes account with a credit card issued in the U.S, billed to a U.S. address in order to use a U.S card.

iTunes and App Store gift cards are basically the same thing, both are redeemed onto your iTunes account and can be used to buy from the iTunes store, app store, Mac app store on Mac computers and the iBookstore - the cards that you shouldn't buy are Apple Store gift cards, they cannot be used with an iTunes account.
When you've redeemed it onto your account then your balance should show in both the iTunes and App Store apps on your iPad, and your computer's iTunes. On my iPad it shows at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app under my account id and at the bottom of the Music tab in the iTunes store app (or you can view your account via Settings > iTunes & App Store and it should show on the screen that you are taken to). On my computer's iTunes it shows at the top left of the store's pages next to my id, and by logging in to view my account via the Store > View Account menu option.
If you are trying to download a paid-for item and you don't currently have a balance or other payment method on your account then you will be taken to the payment details screen so that you can either redeem a gift card or enter one of the other payment methods.

Gift certificates can't be cancelled. She can, however, resend it to the correct email address. Here are the steps to resend a gift certificate:
1. Launch iTunes.
2. Click on the Store icon in the Source pane to go to the iTunes Store.
3. Click on Login or the account name to sign in to the iTunes Store.
4. Enter the password.
5. Click Purchase History.
6. Click the small grey arrow next to the Gift Certificate to be resent.
7. Scroll to the bottom of the detail screen for the Gift Certificate and re-enter the correct email address.
Assuming the incorrect recepient hasn't already redeemed the certificate, you should then be in business.
