How do I enter Chinese characters using an American keyboard?

Does anyone how to create a document of Chinese documents using a pinyin entry system in either Appleworks or MS Word? I once had the feature set up in Word, but I am unable to recreate it. I recently installed the Microsoft Language Register, but I am not sure if that is the correct utility to use nor how to use it. Thank you!

System Prefs > International> Input Menu, check the box for the kind of Chinese you want. For full info, just see these pages:

  • Entering MultiByte characters using OA Extension JDev forms

    Hello
    We have certain custom OA extension JDev forms running on Oracle Applications 11.5.10/ 10g database. Recently we converted our db to be utf8 compliant. While I can querry chineses characters through the custom JDev forms, when I try to enter chinese characters using the custom forms, it stores it as Junk. In the preference I did set the Client Character Encoding to UTF-8, but that did not help. Any clues as to how to get this working would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    PHK

    When you say it stores junk, you see the junk characters from back end or on the OA page on further retrieval of the same value?

    Hi,
       Make sure that the chinese font is installed in your system, because when you download in excel, the character formats are taken from the Frontend.  For detail see the below thread.

  • How to read the Chinese characters set?

    Hello, everyone,
    I have a serial problem about using JavaMail.
    When i read the mail which contain Chinese characters set ( e.g. Big5 ). It will display a unreadable coding.
    Example: " =?big5?B?aGl5YXRvbw==?= "
    How to solve it? Please give me a solution if you know that. I am looking forward to receiving you reply.
    hiyatoo,

    As I know, you can use this:
    msg.setContent(messageText.toString()), "text/html;charset=Big5");
    It works well at my JavaMail API. By the way, your computer msut support Chinese characters.
    Hope this can help.

  • How to replace XML special characters using Xpress e.g. ' = '

    Hellos
    I need to write some XML built from resource data.
    The resource data strings can contain anything e.g. & ' " < and > characters.
    How do I replace these characters with the strings & &apos; " etc.... from within Xpress?
    I try something like:-
    <set name='testchar'>
    <switch>
    <ref>thisLetter</ref>
    <case>
    <s>'</s>
    <s>&apos;</s>
    </case>
    <case>
    <s>"</s>
    <s>"</s>
    </case>
    <case default='true'>
    <ref>thisLetter</ref>
    </case>
    </switch>
    </set>
    But when saved the <s>&apos;</s> gets saved as <s>'</s>
    Is this impossible with Xpress forcing me to invoke my own Java class? (which is a pain to do because of internal politics re restarting of App Server).

    Hmmmm seems there is transformation in this set up too.
    What I am trying to do is to parse a string which may or may not contain XML special characters into an XML acceptable string.
    e.g. transform the surname O'Connor into O&apos ;Connor (with no embedded blank)
    I wish to write a rule which uses XPress language to achieve this.
    I want to convert the character ' into the string &apos ; (with no blank between apos and ;) and similar for the other XML specials.
    Is this possible?

  • How to validate UTF-8 characters using Regex?

    Hi All,
    In one of my applications, i need to include UTF-8 character set for validation of a certain string, which I am validating using a Regex.
    However, I do not know how to include UTF-8 characters in a Regex, or if at all, we can specify the UTF-8 charaters ina regex.
    Please Help!! Its Urgent!!!
    Thanks in Advance,
    Rajat Aggarwal

    Ok, Let me re-state my problem again, and exactly what i am looking for:
    I have an XML file with the following header: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    This XML file contains a tag, whose text is to be validate for a syntax : Operand operator Operand.
    Now, the operand on the right hand side of the operator could be a variable, or a string literal, which may contain some permissible special characters (as said above), and may or may not contain UTF-8 characters as well.
    I am using the xerces SAXParser to parse the XML document, and am retrieving the text of the elemnt tag with the method <code>element.getChildText("<tagName>")<//code>
    According to the org.jdom.Element API Docs,
    the getChildText() method is defined as follows:
    h3. getChildText{noformat}public java.lang.String getChildText(java.lang.String name){noformat}<dl><dd>Returns the textual content of the named child element, or null if there's no such child. This method is a convenience because calling <code>getChild().getText()</code> can throw a NullPointerException. <br<dd><dl><dt>Parameters: </dt><dd><code>name</code> - the name of the child </dd><dt>Returns: </dt><dd>text content for the named child, or null if no such child
    </dd></dl></dd></dl>
    Now, I am not sure if the String that I am reading is in UTF-8 Format. Is there any special way of reading a string in that format, or for that matter, convert a string to UTF-8 encoding?
    h3.

  • Who knows how to read the Chinese Characters from JDBC?

    I wrote two files. One is a jsp file, the other is java file. But in the jsp file it cannot print the Chinese characters, only can print the English characters. I have changed the Character Coding of the browser, but it has no effects. However, the java file works much fine. It can print the both English and Chinese characters.
    This is a part of my codes.
    String query="SELECT * FROM MyDB.dbo.BookList WHERE bookname like \'Java%\'";
    ResultSet rs=sm.executeQuery(query);
    rs.next();
    out.println(rs.getString(1));
    MyDB is a database in the SQL server.

    Hi,
    Did you try setting the contentType/charset of the JSP page? The default is latin, I think.
    <%@ page ... contentType="text/html; charset=character_set" ... %>
    Maybe this helps? At least it could give you a start of where to look...
    Best,
    Guy
