I accidentally downloaded certain podcasts onto my iPhone, and I'd really like to purge it from my iPhone. How do I do this?

You can delete a podcast from your iPhone by swiping your finger across the podcast to bring up the red Delete button. The same applies to deleting a video.
Or if the podcasts were transferred from your iTunes library on your computer via the iTunes sync process, you can remove the podcasts the same way - by syncing. Deselect the podcasts under the Podcasts tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync. The same applies to removing music, video, and photos from your iPhone that were previously transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process.

Well I used the "List" view on the right and I was able to delete podcasts from there.
I guess I'll have to get used to another view...
I also lost all my old poscats archived though. Not sure if it is because of wonderful 11.1 iTunes or because I bought a new computer. They're all lost. But that's a different problem.

You can't. The iPhone doesn't actually store all your emails anyway. It is showing you what is on the server directly.
Only the most recently accessed emails are cached (stored temporarily) on your phone for access when you are offline. If you delete an email from your iPhone, you are actually deleting it from the server.

When I download a podcast directly to my iPhone or iPad and listen to it I expect it to reflect that status when I come home. Instead the podcast downloads again in iTunes and then wonderful joy it changes the status to unplayed and I wind up having to figure out what I've listened to and what I haven't (I listen to a lot of 'em).

Is there any way I can restrict the number of Itunes podcasts are being downloaded at one time. At times when I have multiple downloads going on my internet connection is over tasked and I am unable to do anything else until downloads complete. I would like to restrict my downloads to 1 at time any help would be greatly appreciated.

When your iTunes begins to download, switch to the Store>Downloads. At the bottom of the screen, in the grey area, is a check box marked *Allow simultaneous downloads* - this needs to be unchecked, that is - no tick in the box.
I've never found this option on any other screen, so it has to be done while a download is under way. If several downloads are taking place when you do this, iTunes will simply keep the second and third downloads in a queue and then proceed one at a time.

Let's see what you guys got: I have deleted some podcasts from iTunes that I don't want to see anymore and the icon has stayed on my iphone. They don't show up anywhere in iTunes, but insist on hanging around in the podcast list on my phone. How do I get rid of these??? There is no swipe ability since there are no podcast recordings, just the icons.

Open your podcast app and swipe down on the screen, it will expose the search box and the edit button.
