How do i erase factory unlocked iPhone 4s

I just got a 4S-32GB so Ill be selling my 20-day old 4S-16GB. Both are factory unlocked bought from Apple shipped from Shenzhen iphones. How do i erase the old one completely in order to sell it?
Im afraid I might lock it up or something...

Remove the SIM before performing the re-set as advised by wjosten. There are reports that if you do the reset with an active SIM installed, it will tie iMessage to the phone number of the SIM that's in it at the time.
Better yet, disable iMessage, then remove the SIM, then perform the erase all. Just to be safe.

The Verizon iPhone 4s is a real World Phone...what you are wanting to do is have Verizon service and use GSM networks while in the US...or at least that what it sounds like since you state that you are having trouble using another U.S. carrier's sim card on your phone. You can't do that. But when you are overseas you can use a local carrier's simcard there if you have the Verizon sim unlocked. As far as the Apple unlocked device that can't be used with Verizon...it makes sense because that device is natively a GMS device...so it will work unlocked on other GSM networks but not on VZW's CDMA. In general, it has always been my understanding that unlocked devices (not just sim's) are for use n GSM networks and not CDMA's.

If it's running iOS 5 it should be able to activate without the need to plug it in to iTunes. There may be an issue with the WiFi network he's on at the moment. Assuming he has a data plan, he should be able to activate it over 3G, I believe. Early on after iOS 5 was released, there were a number of reports in the US that people on AT&T were not able to activate their phones after updating over the Internet (WiFi) but WERE able to activate them while connected to the AT&T 3G network.
If he can't do it over 3G, have him try another WiFi network. Without knowing the details of the network he's using, it's hard to offer advice. Hotels and public hotspots may not be the best place to try it as they rarely (in my experience) have things configured and working well. It may well be that the network he's on wants him to authinticate and agree to their terms (usually done in the browser) before it will allow an outside connection. That's not going to work well when he's trying to activate the phone.

I clicked on the more information tab and was taken to a website with some troubleshooting. I did what they suggested (based on the error #) and still no luck. I’ve tried to restore and update about 10 times now but the same message keeps coming up at the end. What should I do now?
P.S: I have the latest version of iTunes (11), my windows is up to date etc ...

Don't waste your time, as I've already stated, Sprint WILL NOT autrhorize the unlocking of your sim slot.

The term "factory unlocked" has no meaning. Your phone was not legitimately unlocked. Contact the carrier it is locked to and find out if you can get it unlocked.
