How do I erase personal info from MacBook 10.6.7 that I am selling?

I have a black MacBook 10.6.7 that I am selling?  I don'thave any original disks or manuals, just the macbook and powercord.  How do I erase all personal info but leave the rest of the info intact for the new owner?  Thanks.

If you purchase a retail version of v10.6, you can erase the disk and reinstall to factory settings >  Mac OS X 10.6 Help: Reinstalling Mac OS X or use another computer on your network.
Replacement disc(s) from Apple:   You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

  • How do you remove personal info from a dead AppleTV

I had my ATV die on me and was planning to replace the hard drive to fix it. Once I got into the machine, I hooked up the HD to my computer and it looked just fine so my conclusion was it is NOT the hard drive. I bought a new ATV and am wanting to sell the old one, but am concerned about the purchaser getting my iTunes account info off the hard drive.
Does anyone know how to remove that info without wiping out the HD? I know a HD without the ATV information reders the ATV pretty much useless. Would love any input. Thanks!

Perhaps he's selling it for 'spares', but in that case I think I'd reformat the hard drive - presumably if it doesn't start up he can't factory restore, but even that wouldn't necessarily pt off a determined person sniffing for info with appropriate software.

  • How do I erase my personal info from a phone with a broken screen?

My iPhone4 has a broken (blank) screen, but the phone does turn on.  I have bought another phone, but want to erase my personal info from the broken phone before I donate it.  How can I do this?

If you have Find My iPhone turned on you can erase it from iCloud.

1: The absolute best way Grade A method would be to remove the storage drive and replace with another, melt the old drive in a +1500º F kiln, or smash it to tiny bits with a sledgehammer / hydraulic press and distribute the pieces into the trash as widespread as possible.
Then hold c booting from a OS X install disk (10.6 or earlier if th emachine came with that) or hold option key booting from a 10.7 install USB ($69, no user ID associated) and install your OS onto the new drive and shutdown at the Welcome screen.
2: If you don't want to replace the drive but don't want a wealthy individual, corporation or government using special equipment to read most of your data.
Then hold c booting from a OS X install disk, (or command r booting from 10.7 Recovery) and using Disk Utility to Erase with 7x overwrite on the OS X boot partition will do. Takes many hours to complete.
There might be  small bits left in mapped off sectors, journaled drives, your basically trusting the drive makers / OS maker to erase your drive completely. Then reinstall your OS and shutdown at the Welcome screen.
3: If you don't want to replace the drive, not all that paranoid, but don't want most anyone using special software like DataRescue to read your deleted data off the drive, then hold c booting from a OS X install disk, (or command r booting from 10.7 Recovery) and using Disk Utility to Erase with Zero will do. Takes about a few hours. Then reinstall your OS and shutdown at the Welcome screen.
4: If your not the least bit concerned someone could read your deleted data, simply hold c booting from a OS X install disk, (or command r booting from 10.7 Recovery) and using Disk Utility to Erase (with Security Option will do.) Takes about a few seconds. Then quit DU, reinstall your OS and shutdown at the Welcome screen.

  • How do you strip your personal info from an ipad before giving away?

How do you strip your personal info from an ipad before giving away???

You can backup your current iPad, and then restore the new iPad from that backup (a list of what is included in a backup is in this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946 - it excludes music, videos, synced photos). As the backup doesn't contain the actual apps, just their settings and content, for the restore to work completely you'll need all the relevant apps in your computer's iTunes library - otherwise the restore won't be able to install the apps and therefore their content (if you don't have the apps on your computer then you can re-download them for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519)
This page has info on how to backup and then restore : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766 (iCloud is only possible with iOS 5, but if backing up with the idea of restoring to a different iPad I'd backup via your computer's iTunes anyway)

  • How do I get my info from the phone that was stolen

My phone was stolen. How can I recover the info from the cloud on another device ?

If you had the icloud backup feature turned on and had a backup made (from the lost device), then just get a new device and restore the backup.  Without a backup in icloud or iTunes, your data is lost.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  This will erase your device.  Then you will go through the setup screens again as you did when your device was new, and when given the option, select Restore from iCloud Backup.
This link gives another overview of backup and restore:

How do i retrieve my info from iclou

If you're asking how to restore from your iCloud backup, this has to be done in the initial setup process.  If you have any data on your phone now that is not in the backup that you want to save you'll need to do that first.  Then go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  You will then go through the setup screens as you did when the phone was new. When given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below).  Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

  • How can I erase deleted items from the hard drive?

How can I erase deleted files from the hard drive?  Will my machine run faster?

If you've already deleted the files and emptied the Trash they are already, in effect, erased. At least the disk space they occupied is now available.
To be able to offer help we need more information about which Mac you have, which OS you are running, how much RAM you have installed, how much hard disk space you have available, etc.
Go to the Apple Menu>About this Mac - copy and paste the contents of the report here (deleting the serial number of your machine). Once we have that info, I'm sure someone will have some suggestions.

my computer crashed and I no longer have the itunes library. i get an error msg that my iphone 3g is synced to another library - how can I get the info from the phone to the itunes library without losing everything? How do I delete old audiobooks from my iphone?

You can transfer itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.

  • How to upload a Word doc from MacBook to iCloud?

How to upload a Word doc from MacBook to iCloud?

Just going to throw in again: iCloud is to keep's Apple's products on Apple's devices synced up between multiple devices. It isn't for sharing. It isn't for storage.
iCloud is the Apple-branded cloud (see the "i"). It isn't meant to be a completely free-of-charge realization of the future that all the tech people keep calling "the cloud."
It adds a lot of very nice functionality to Apple's own products, yet people are screaming their heads off about not getting free disk space and free bandwidth to use for whatever they want online. Apple added functionality, but tons of people seem to think they took away functionality. These things were never promised with iCloud.

How to get the extension Info from firefox? Do we have any firefox API to communicate with the browser? I couldnt see the HTML of the widget displayed in the toolbar how to access the widget using JS or any way

    Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. I've been playing around with some of the classes of the java.net package and java.io
Using the URL class i can get the content of the data from a STATIC page and output that response to file so that is does not display to the client broswer.
But this only works if the URL i give points to a static html page.
So the problem i'm getting is if i'm righting in arguments in the URL, this means that server needs to process the arguments i give and its sends back a dynamic result. Because its dynamic the URL class can not handle this and throws me an exception everytime :(
Have u ever tried to do some things like this?

  • Not too long ago I was able to delete personal info from forwarded emails in Hotmail, but not now. Works fine in IE. What's wrong and where? Txs

Being paranoid, I like to delete personal info (email addresses, etc.) from emails I'm forwarding. Ican do this right now in IE, but not Firefox.
I had been running FF4(?), but downgraded to FF3.5 because of some other issues, but I don't recall when the problem with email started (before or after downgrade).
IE9 allows me to delete this personal info from forwarded emails.

Try an SMC reset. The article covers when this is required, but doing this will not affect anything.
