How do I establish my own library without screwing up my daughter's?

Even though I logged in under my user name, and she uses another one, the first time I opened iTunes, her library popped up. I want to customize my own music without accidently permanently doing anything to hers. I may want to share some of her songs, but I want my own library. So what do I do to establish my own library so there's no chance we will be messing up each other's libraries or playlists?

This happened to me also. But none of the changes you make should transfer to other user account. I think iTunes just used the original library when creating the second.
To test, try adding a playlist in your account. then logout of your account. Login to hers and see if it changed to. It shouldn't.
A caution when switching accounts. Logout of the accounts when switching. Do not use the fast user switching option, it confuses some programs, iTunes included.

  • How can I sync with this library without erasing my data?

The iPod "Sayira's iPod" is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library? An iPod can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPod with the contents of this iTunes library.
So, okay, here's my story: My laptop caught a virus, so i sent it to this guy who fixes computers, now that my laptop is fixed, everything is deleted from it. I didn't really mind this too much, but anyway I redownloaded iTunes to my new hardrive and then it said the following (posted above). My question is, how can i sync with this new library without erasing any data from my apps (such as games, photos, videos, music)? I REALLY don't want to lose this data!

    - Transffer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here.
    Copy music
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the IPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does no include symec media like apps and music.

  • How do I reset my iTunes library without losing the data?

Many of the songs are duplicated and/or iTunes cannot play because the location is missing. I want to create a new library to correct but do not want to delete the actual music files.

Steps 1-6 in: iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451
Drag your media folders in iTunes to the "Automatically Add To iTunes" folder to add media in those folders into new library.

  • How do I get 3 ipods on one computer have their own library without having to sync with another one and erasing its content?

So I have a computer that I use for my iPod and my list is the main library that stays on the computer along with any other music my mom buys from her account. Anytime that I want to add music to any of theres, a window pops up saying that I need to sync to the library and erase the existing one they have. I dont want to do that I just want to be able to add any music they want for it without it saying that. My moms can add any music under her account to hers it still goes on to mine but at least it goes to hers. When my dads is attached it asks that question like I said before. Any one know how to make them all seperate?

  • How do you move an Event Library without moving the physical media

I've got a large library of media that needs to be organized, with new keywords.  I have multiple people on different computers attacking portions of the media all stored on a single raid, accessed via gigabit ethernet.  When the libraries are created on each computer, the media is kept in it's original place.  Because the drive is networked, FCP X won't let me place the Event Library on the drive, though I can access the media.  It will also not let me move or duplicate the libraries to the networked drive.  If I connect a drive locally, I can move, copy or duplicate the Event Library, but, here's the problem, instead of copying the alias' to the media, and keeping it like the original event library, it copies the full media into the new library, unnecessarily.
Has anybody found how to copy the Copy, Move or Duplicate the Event Libraries without moving the actual media to the new Library?  I'd like to copy the new libraries to the networked drive where the media is stored and then relink the files.  Then I could merge each computers Library into a master library.
Does that make sense to anybody?  There has to be a way to stop FCP X from unnecessarily copying the media.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but - Did you uncheck 'Copy files to Final Cut Events Folder' when importing into your project?

  • How can I split a large library without days of tedious work???

I've been reading other discussions for a few hours but feel my situation warrents a new discussion to see if anyone can help.
I've been using iPhoto for many years. I've been using a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo 2007 era iMac the whole time. I'm now using iPhoto v8.1.2. Running OSX 10.6.8.
My iPhoto library is now quite large with about 40,000 photos and about 175 G in total size. I have put a lot of time into organizing the photos. Everything is religiously backed up.
Over the past year or so the performance of iPhoto in terms of speed has been slowly declining. It takes a long time to open, but the most cumbersome is the spinning beach ball when I "commit" to enhancements to a photo I've made (contrast, saturation, sharpness etc). Recently that beach ball could actually take 3-5 minutes. I find this intolerable.
So I started researching this to see if others have the problem. As best I can make out after a few hours of research is that my library is too large and my computer too old. I don't want to replace my computer becuase of iPhoto so I started researching the idea of splitting my library into smaller libraries.
I found several 3rd party programs (iPhoto Buddy, iPhoto Library Manager) that made it seem they may be able to help me easily split my library into several libraries. Unfortunately neither actually does this but instead tells you how you need to do that manually.
The methods to split your library manually they suggest are horrendously tedious for a 40,000 photo library with over 1,300 carefully constructed Events.
And this brings me to where I stand today. I copy my entire library to an external hard drive, open the copied library and what I WANT to do is prune it to say 1/10 of the size (say two years of my photos). (Realize I'll have to do this process of copying my entire library 10 times, and pruning each time.)
But then I find out that iPhoto totally chokes when you try to trash more than "80-100" photos at a time! Morever, I come to find out that emptying the trash of even 80 photos takes 3-5 minutes!
Although I appreciate the help and advice, perhaps you can understand my frustration with Apple. I'm literally an indentured servant to iPhoto if I want to preserve all the work I've done on my library. I'd switch to another program if it would preserve all my events but I can not find one that does.
    1. The performance of their software declines with no warning to the point where it can't be used unless you're unemployed and have nothing else to do.
    2. You look for a fix and find you have to split your library.
    3. When you try to split your library you find it will takes days and days of tedious work to complete.
So that is my story. That is why I'm so angry with Apple.
Have I missed anything or am I doomed to this dreary work?
Thank you for any help and guidance you can provide.

My next move would be to rebuild with Library Manager:
    note the caveats:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Phoshare will still work for an older version of iPhoto like yours. The problems it reports are with iPhoto 11, and that has the same ability built-in, so making it redundant.
I'm not sure about videos, an email to either developer should answer that one for you.

  • How can i restore an iphoto library without using time machine

I somehow created a new iphoto library and my old one was deleted and wasn't saved using time machine. Is there any way i can get my old library back. Please help!!!

The dock icon always enters the last IPHOTO library opened - so all may not be lost ..
Look in Macintosh HD/Users/*your name on your mac/Pictures
iPhoto Library is the default - if you have another iPhoto library with some extension that may be the new one -- so simply click on iPhoto to reset the dock icon.
If you use time machine - and the Iphoto library is empty - Enter time machine while in this folder and back up through time until you find the last one with pictures.

  • How can I make my own form without a wizard

    Hello,
I already created Tabular Forms using the wizard and everything worked. But now I have different requirements on my from. I need some radio buttons and some option buttons (which values come from different tables) and some normal number fields. So I can't no longer use the tabular forms.
I created a table which can save all the information I want to provide by the form. This table has a primary key populated by a sequence I created too. Then I created a page which looks like a questionnaire I got before to design this form.
I added another hidden item (*ID*), which should be filled by my sequence and a button which should do the insert statement.
But I couldn't find out how to do. I looked a the processes which a made when I use the wizard but I'm not sure what they do actually.
My question is, how is it possible to have the hidden item filled with the next primary key of my table and then how do put all the item values of the form in an insert statement? I there maybe a better way to acchieve my goals?
    Regards
    Felix

If you created your sequence with a trigger (usually APEX creates these together for you) then there is no need to have the next ID number, when you do your insert it will automatically fill this in for you. The trigger will see that you're trying to insert null for the ID and instead replace it with the next number in the sequence.
As for having all your items in an insert statement, you can do this in two ways. One being to create up a DML page process to handle the insert/update/delete statements. You will also need an on load row fetch process to load data onto your form. Make sure your page items are set to Source Type Database Column with the column names in the Source Value field.
The other option is to create custom page processes to do these for you - for example, one process for inserting, one for updating, one for deleting, one for displaying data, and then you can set the condition of each process to only run if a certain button is clicked. This is useful if you have more code to run with each button click.

  • How can I insert an additional page without screwing up the master layouts? I have a document with multiple sized pages and the same master applied to each page.

My document is currently 10 pages. There are 5 different sizes of the pages. They all have the same master page applied to them. When I go to insert a new page and/or duplicate a page...it screws up where the master layout goes. Surely there is simple way to do this??
    For example:
These pages are all inserts for a sales folder.
    Pages 7 and 8 are sized at 8.5" w X 10.25" h. Pages 9 and 10 are sized at 8.5" w X 11" h.
I need to duplicate page 8 and have it go between 8 and 9 and it needs to be sized like pages 7 and 8 (or 8.5" w X 10.25" h)
When I go to to do this, it screws up the master page layout for the remaining pages of the document.
I have tried several ways to do this. Can anyone help??
    Thanks!

Try to define 5 different master pages.

  • How do I share my iTunes library to an iPad without using "Home Sharing"?

I have set up my iTunes library to be shared with others over our home network.  This is the "Share your library" option, and NOT "Home Sharing" since my wife has her own Apple ID and I, unfortunatly, have 2.  She was wanting to listen to our music on her iPad but could not figure out how to access the shared library.  The "Music" app (click more, select library) only seems to work for Home Shared libraries.  (In fact, I had tried Home Sharing first and when I turned it off, all of the buttons at the bottom of the Music app's screen disappeared - note:  she has no music stored on the iPad.)
So, how can an iPad access a shared iTunes music library without using Home Sharing?
(iPad 2, iOS 6; Mac 10.8, iTunes 10 because 11 totally inhibits my ability to use my iPod the way I want.)

-> Home Sharing is different than logging into the iTunes store.
You enable Home Sharing using one AppleID. Doesn't matter which you use but all devices must use the same AppleID for Home Sharing.

",the owner sold the ipod without clearing the songs and since the songs were not puchased from the itunes store then i believe i now own the songs"
    Not true at all.
It does not matter where the songs came from, they are not yours and the previous owner does not own the right to distribute them to others.
The law is the same with downloads and cds and any other medium.

I own a 13" MacBook Pro and a 27" iMac and I have different iPhoto libraries for each one of them.
How can I copy the iPhoto library from the MacBook to the iMac without losing the pictures I have on the iMac library?
Is it possible to merge the libraries?
Can I do this without using an external HDD? (e.g. connecting them through an ethernet cable?)
    Thanks for your help!

    1. By eirher a: renaming one of the Libraries or b: copying them to another folder
    2. If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
    3. Yes.

This is illegal.  There is no doubt about it
